The question was asked, and you guys answered. Do you want more quick and easy, budget-friendly recipes? And you all said yes. So, with that being said, tonight I'm going to show you how to make a delicious beef and gravy rice bake.
To our warm pan, because I like to preheat my pans before we get to cooking, if you get what I mean, I'm going to add about a pound and a half of ground meat. This is beef. However, if you want to substitute using pork, chicken, or turkey, you can definitely do so. Also, if you want to, let's say, maybe mix the pork with the chicken and vice versa, you could do that as well. And I'm just going to place the meat to the back of the pan and allow it to continue rendering to see how much oil that's going to be extracted from the meat, of course. And so far, from what I'm seeing, right, this is, yes, as I said earlier, 80/20. But sometimes the 80/20 would definitely surprise you. All right. It would, once everything is finished breaking down, you wouldn't end up with a lot of fat. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. So, guess what? Because I'm going to sauté other veggies and aromatics, I'm going to leave the oil today. However, if you do have a lot of oil going on in your pan, be sure to drain that oil off. We're going to allow our onions to cook until they become translucent and slightly fragrant. Of course, this should take about about 30 seconds. All right, perfect. Not to mention, you're going to get those delicious flavors from the beef fat as well. All right, let's combine the onions, of course, with the ground beef. Mix it in really good. Let's add our finely chopped garlic. That's about, let's see, this is about three cloves of garlic. Allow the garlic to become fragrant. This is obviously chopped garlic. However, if you have garlic paste or let's say if you don't have any fresh garlic on hand, you could definitely substitute with adding garlic powder. All right, after about 30 seconds, let's combine the garlic with everything else in the pan.
All right, at this point in time, let's season. This is the fun part, okay? Or at least what I like to consider the fun part. We're going to go in with some salt, ground black pepper. Keep in mind, we're not going to overseason. We're just going to add enough to bring flavor out in this dish. Of course, we're going to add some garlic powder along with our onion powder, paprika, and some Italian seasoning. Let's combine everything together. I'm going to add some of my all-purpose cooking with Tammy chicken seasoning. All right, let's add the beef bouillon to the party. We're not going to add too much because beef bouillon, believe it or not, adding a small amount goes a far way. All right, we're going to add some all-purpose flour to our meat. Of course, we're going to stir it in and make sure everything is perfectly incorporated. Let's add our beef broth, of course. Stir that on up. And because we added the flour, believe it or not, it's going to start to thicken up pretty soon. If there's any little crispy bits at the bottom of the pan, no worries whatsoever because the liquid is going to start to deglaze the bottom of the pan. Let's add some Worcestershire sauce. We're looking for those three components: savory, sweet, and salty. All right, but when I say salty is not salty, if you get what I mean, it's not going to be, it's not going to throw it overboard. All right, let's give it a little color. So, let's add a small amount of browning. Browning comes in different brands. If you want to use like, let's say, maybe Kitchen Bouquet, Grace, or even Walker's Wood, those are all three good browning agents.
This rice, even though it's dried, it's pre-washed. Don't be adding no dirty rice to the mix. All right, take your time. Wash the rice until the water runs clear. You don't want it to look cloudy. If that water is cloudy, then you have problems. Okay, stir it on in really, really good. Now, here's the thing, right? We have two options when it comes to finishing up this meal. We could definitely allow it to cook on the stovetop, lower the flame, cover it down, don't disturb it, give it about 20 minutes, or we could place all of this goodness into our casserole dish and cover it down with aluminum foil and allow it to bake for about 40 to 45 minutes. I think I'm going to go with the second option. Yeah, because you know what? Yeah, after all, it's a rice bake, so why not? But I'm just putting the options out there. Whatever you feel comfortable with is what you're going to do. And last but not least, because we want this dish to be nice and creamy and melt on your palate delicious, we're going to add a small amount of heavy cream. All right, if you have half and half, you can add the half and half, or you could just skip it. That's one of those situations where I'm going to leave it up to you. If you want to add it, you definitely can. If you don't, you could exclude it from this dish. But I'm telling you right now, it's going to be creamy. All right, it's going to be delicious.
All right, we're going to go ahead and turn the stovetop off. Of course, we're going to bring out a casserole dish. I know a lot of people always says, "Tammy, what size is a casserole dish?" For this particular recipe, I'm going to say 8 by 8. However, if you do have a 9 by 13, you could use that as well. To our casserole dish, we could add either non-stick cooking spray or we could do it old school. Add some butter. You don't want your beefy rice bake to stick to the casserole dish. All right. Boom. Once that's done, I'm going to bring it on over and we are going to add all of this deliciousness to our dish. All right, that is so gorgeous. It's not even cooked yet. All right, let's see. Turn. And let's make sure we scrape everything out of the pan. Pan is hot and heavy, so be careful. Take the back of the spatula and just spread it on out evenly. And that's it, my love. I'm not going to decorate with parsley just yet. I'm going to wait more towards the end in order to add the parsley, of course. But for now, we're going to cover it down with aluminum foil. Oven set to 375° F. And this is going to go in there for about 40 to 45 minutes. In between time, right, you're going to check on the rice bake, of course. And if you need to add more water according to the texture of the rice, you can definitely do that. Let's remove the foil after about 40, 45 minutes. And check it on out. This is gorgeous. And you could tell just by looking at it, right, that the rice is perfectly cooked. I'm not even going to go, I'm not even going to go in there and fluff the rice. If you want to, you can. But like I said, just from making cooking rice so often, I can tell that that's perfectly cooked. What I am going to do is, however, I'm going to add some Colby Jack cheese to the top. Add your favorite blend of cheese, whether it be cheddar or mozzarella, whatever you prefer, basically. If you want to add some Gouda to this, you definitely can. But for now, I think the Colby Jack is going to pair perfectly. We're going to place it back into the oven uncovered for about 10 to 15 minutes. Go ahead and add some freshly chopped parsley. If you don't have freshly chopped parsley, of course, you're going to add some dried parsley. But nevertheless, we're going to place it back into the oven. Okay, this time we're going to lower the oven to about, I want to say about 325, 350 would be perfect. We're going to place it in there for about 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is perfectly melted and your casserole is nice and bubbly.
This is such a beautiful casserole. I can only anticipate it's going to taste absolutely delicious. This is just a sample taste test that we're going to do. So, with that being said, I think it's only right to take a small amount for the time being until we go off camera, of course. I'm going to add some hot sauce to it. I mean, after all, why not? And let's see what we are working with. Oh, goodness gracious. This rice dish right here. Quick and easy, not to mention budget-friendly, right? And the flavors are out of this world delicious. You're getting that creaminess going on. Not to mention, the ground beef is perfectly seasoned. And most importantly, the rice is cooked to perfection. The grains are just the perfect consistency.
