Narcissists don't grieve a loss. What they do instead is actually much worse.
They start with ego management. When something horrible happens, their immediate thought is not, "Oh my god, that's awful." It's, "What does this say about me? What are people going to think about me?"
The next step is blame shifting. Grief becomes a story about someone else [ __ ] up. The narcissist uses this as an opportunity to rile up people together on their side against some common enemy.
Next is immediate distraction because, after all, pain is too hard to bear. So, we got to find new highs, we got to find a new partner, we got to find some new shiny thing to chase. Their pain, like everything else, is an excuse for their indulgence.
And finally, there's the self-pity disguised as depth. They love the aesthetic of suffering because of all the attention that it brings them, but they don't love the responsibility of actually feeling it. They will use any loss as an excuse to get pity from others, then leverage that attention in whatever way best suits their ego.
