And the consequences of that precision are not cosmetic. An object that passes inside Jupiter's Hill sphere is subject to Jupiter's gravitational field, not just the sun's. The trajectory after exit is measurably modified. In orbital mechanics, using a massive body's gravity to gain outbound velocity without being captured is called a gravity assist, a slingshot. A direct marker of water-rock interaction at depth, of chemical energy, of conditions that on Earth are directly associated with life at deep ocean hydrothermal vents. The signature of a potentially inhabited ocean, broadcast continuously into the space around Saturn, detectable from hundreds of thousands of kilometers away by any sufficiently sensitive spectrometer. An object traveling at 60 km/s through that region would be immersed in that signal without any maneuver, without any measurable change in trajectory.

There is a detail from Cassini's final orbit series worth knowing. Before deliberately dropping into Saturn's atmosphere in 2017, Cassini passed through the gap between the rings and the upper cloud deck. Methane sits at intermediate volatility. It should have evaporated before or with CO2. It was not detected until after perihelion. After it was buried deep under layers that only broke open under the extreme heat of closest solar approach and alongside it, complex organic molecules. Carbon compounds associated with biological chemistry, also released only after perihelion from apparently shielded interior regions at an accelerating rate consistent with triggered release rather than steady sublimation. An object keeping something protected, thermally sealed, preserved, released only when the temperature reached a specific threshold. That is what a programmed release mechanism does. That is not what comet ice does.

Harvard professor Avi Loeb publicly raised the question, in peer-reviewed published scientific writing, not in a podcast, of whether those biological signature organics could represent evidence of life internal to the object. Microorganisms, biology preserved under 10 meters of shielding for billions of years. Protected from cosmic ray bombardment by isotropic shielding geometry that describes a container, not a random rock released by the heat of the sun at perihelion.
