In this video, I'll show you how each graphic settings work in Battlefield 6 and the best settings to reduce the delay on PS5 by up to 30 milliseconds on average. If 30 milliseconds less delay is worth it for you, you are in the right place.
First, the graphics preset. We've tested graphics options again. Some of you asked, what if we play 120 Hz mode in performance and 1080p? The average delay on that is 42.86 milliseconds. That's very close to the other test results for 2,160p and 1440p. Based on the method we make this test, the values under 1.1 milliseconds should be considered the same. So you can play on any resolution on performance mode on PS5 and there won't be a significant difference.
But what if you are limited to 60 fps or you want to have higher graphics but at the same time lower input delay? Even if you force your TV and PS5 to 60 Hz or your TV doesn't support 120 Hz, if you choose performance mode in 60 Hz output, based on another advanced test we made, the delay was 44.5 milliseconds while balanced mode is around 70 to 80 milliseconds. That's the best thing about this game. Even if your TV doesn't support high refresh rate, by choosing performance option, you can achieve faster response.
But there's another option called sharpness. We've tested it on three values 0, 50, and 100. While the game was set to performance mode, the difference in firing range was less than 1 millisecond in all three modes, which means this option has no affection on input lag. You can use any value you like.
Next, we've tested field of view 90 versus 120. Based on 20 tests, on average, if you use field of view of 120, the delay increases to 54.7 milliseconds. That's the only option that have a significant affection on input lag. But again, it's around 10 to 12 milliseconds. And if you use lower FOV values, the delay wouldn't increase as much. Not everyone cares about 10 milliseconds higher delay.
We've also tested the game once with all graphical effects off such as weapon motion blur, W motion blur, camera shake, reduce sprint camera, chromatic aberration, vignette, and film grain. The delay stayed the same. None of these options affect input lag, at least on PS5 and PS5 Pro. But you can use what looks better to you.
To recap, the best mode is performance mode, even if your TV is limited to 60 Hz output. That will give you the same input lag as a 120 Hz TV. You can use any resolution you like for performance mode 120 Hz and the delay is almost the same. Sharpness and other graphical effects will not affect input lag at all. FOV settings can increase input lag by up to 12 milliseconds depending on how much higher you go. Choose wisely.
In graphic section, we have word brightness. This affects the overall picture brightness. It's like when there is more or less light in the world. As you see, higher can cause losing details in highlights such as sky and lower can make it harder to see in dark areas. 50 looks good to me.
The UI brightness can change the brightness of user interface on the screen. If you play on older OLED panels and want to prevent burning issues, you can reduce the UI brightness.
The sharpness makes the image look sharper. Here you can see the difference between 0, 50, and 100. As mentioned, no affection on input lag, so choose based on what looks best to you. Up to 75 looks good to me in performance mode playing on a 27 in 4K monitor.
The weapon motion blur makes your weapon blurry when you rotate fast. I don't like motion blur at all, so I turned it off, but you can use lower values as well. Word motion blur is the same effect, but just happens to the environment around you.
Camera shake happens when there's an explosion, which I kept it on least amount for now. I want the sharpest view.
The reduced sprint camera bobbing is an effect that you see is shaking your camera when you are walking or running. You can also reduce that effect to make it more steady for better viewing.
Chromatic aberration is an effect that makes colors appear offset near the edge of the picture. Something like this that I added in post. It's not as much in the game. I just wanted you to notice it. It also makes things balor off center, which I don't like. So I suggest keeping it off.
The vignette effect makes areas around the picture darker than the center to be focused on the center. Good for a story mode but probably not smart for multiplayer.
Film grain adds grainy dots to the picture to make it look like old films. I added so much of it in post so you can see how it exactly looks. I personally want the highest and cleanest quality so I keep this one off as well. But none of these effects cause any higher delay. So if you like them, you can use them.
The same goes with HDR. It doesn't add any extra delay to the game. So you can use HDR if your TV looks good enough or bright enough for HDR content. And you don't need to be worried about any input delay increase when using HDR.
But I wanted to ask you something. Do you also get screen tearing in this game even when you have VRR enabled? I noticed that sometimes on PS5 Pro and I have a fully supported VRR monitor even in a story mode. Screen tearing is something like this that may happen when frames aren't consistent. If we get tearing either way, wouldn't it be better to test the game with VRR off to see how much is the delay? Well, let's do it now.
I've tested it 20 more times in performance mode. Once with VRR off and once enabled. The average delay only changed by 0.3 milliseconds. Anything under 1.1 millisecond is invalid. So, the VRR doesn't affect input delay for controller in Battlefield 6. Keep it on regardless.
