Hello and welcome, I am Gabriela Nedelcu and I am the history teacher at Start în Bac. Today we will talk about Subject One, which can appear on the baccalaureate exam. Pay attention here. Before anything else, to solve Subject One, you must be very proficient in the material that can appear on the exam. Therefore, I recommend the Start în Bac history flashcards, and let's get started.

Good, for Subject One, you will most likely have two texts that will talk about various historical periods. After you read them very carefully, perhaps even twice, start solving the first four exercises. The first four exercises are based on the text and most often ask you to provide quotes, to specify the source from which you took information.

And then, focus on Subject Five. Subject Five is the most complicated of all. It is also very valuable, worth seven points, and can only be obtained if it is done completely. Yes, it is the subject about cause and effect, and what you need to do now is to know very well why a historical event happens. That is, more precisely, to look for those connectors that show you that the event was a cause or an effect.

The cause connectors are "because," "since." The effect connectors are "therefore," "thus," "in conclusion," and so on. After you have identified the connectors in the text, all you need to do is transcribe the information, but specify which is the cause and which is the effect. My recommendation is to say "Cause:" and then, in quotation marks, provide the quote from the text. "Effect:" and then, in quotation marks, provide the quote from the text again. It is guaranteed that you will get points if you do this. Do not forget that if you only specify the cause or only the effect, you get no points, even if it is correct.

For exercise six, you will most likely have to present two historical events, whether they are battles, constitutions, treaties, and so on. But make the difference between mentioning the respective battle and presenting the respective battle. Let's take an example because we are talking about a few years ago, I will refer to the communist period. And for example, if it asks you to present something that happened in the communist period, a historical event, let's say you can take the adoption of the 1965 Constitution and talk about the constitution. The fact that you named it, the adoption of the Constitution, does not give you all the points. It gives you two points, but if you then explain it, present it, talk about the fact that it was the third communist constitution, that it is representative of the National Communist period, and that it is Ceaușescu's Constitution, you might secure a few more points. Do this twice. So, mention the event and then present it, and you have made a very good text for exercise 6 of Subject One.

And exercise 7 of Subject One most often asks for a similarity or a characteristic. And if you want a pro tip, know that they are pretty much one and the same thing. If you take them separately, for example, a similarity can be the fact that the three constitutions from the 1948-1965 period are communist. But it is also a characteristic that they are communist. Therefore, pay attention to the events, battles, or constitutions that might appear and see if they have a totalitarian character, if they have a democratic character, if the respective battles were against the Turks or not. And then we are talking about an anti-Ottoman character, and you can make a super easy Subject Seven.

However, pay attention, you will receive all the points if you mention the similarity between the requested events and also specify the events. Let's do an imagination exercise, what if this subject appeared on your baccalaureate exam, and you will see it right here on the screen. You have read the text, and now you are about to solve exercise 7, which says: "Mention a similarity between the political practices used in Europe in the last decade of the 20th century." If we refer to Europe, you can confidently take Romania. After all, that's what you have to learn, the history of Romania.

Then you need to clearly place it in time: the last decade of the 20th century. Communism had pretty much started to fall in all areas. Therefore, we can say that that moment represents the return to democracy. So, the political practices of the 20th century, the last decade, mean democracy, mean the return to the democratic system. And then, as an example, we can take the adoption of the 1991 Constitution and the organization of free elections where citizens could express their right to vote. The similarity between the two, as you guessed, is the fact that they are democratic political practices, therefore representative of the restoration of democracy after the December period.

And now, a little pause. Did you like this video? Well, how do you want to motivate me to continue these videos? Write to me in the comments about what other history lesson you would like me to talk about, and at 300 likes, I will post the next video. So, let's recap the three most important things for Subject One: One, read the sources very carefully. Two, look for these connectors that express cause and effect to get all the points for exercise five. And three, perhaps the most important, differentiate between "mention" and "present" because you will keep encountering these words on the baccalaureate exam, and you don't want to get confused between them. Mention the battle and then present it with information related to the battle.

Definitely follow the YouTube channel, and let's ace the baccalaureate. See you in the next video. Good, if we get over 300 likes, you already know.
