If you're struggling to speak on camera with authenticity and confidence, or you're just scripting all of your videos and you're sick of the scripting process, and you just want to be real on camera, speak freely and naturally, I'm going to show you exactly how I gained 10,000 new subscribers on this very niche channel just in the last 90 days using the antiscript method.
So, this is the plan for this video right now. Don't know if you can see that, but there's barely anything written. And this is an example of an antiscript, a relentlessly simple but strategic and effective video plan which is designed to attract the right audience to your channel who will watch and buy from you.
This is working really well on YouTube right now because people are craving authenticity. I think it was the word of the year in 2023, which is funny because that was the year that AI basically came out and instead of AI being the word of the year, the word of the year was authenticity. People were searching for the opposite and they still are.
As people are using more AI tools and tricks to make YouTube videos and the platform becomes saturated with AI content, more and more people are going to be searching for real, raw, authentic human connection. And that is exactly what we're leaning into and taking advantage of using this speaking method. And I say taking advantage of as if we're like hopping on a trend. This has obviously always been at the very core of YouTube as a platform as a whole. Authenticity is what the platform was built upon and is what the platform is also being designed to lean towards is viewer satisfaction. People actually being happy and connected to your videos.
Now, while scripting YouTube videos can be great and it has its place in some niches, I believe that scripted content builds way less trust with your viewers and that creators who are always scripting their content won't have as loyal fan bases as the creators who can just go off the cuff when they need to and talk genuinely to their audience. And as human beings, we are constantly learning what we are doing.
So, if you're always scripting YouTube videos and then just reading them off a teleprompter to the camera, you're going to get really good at writing. Sure, you're going to get much better at writing because you're going to be doing so much of it over the next months or years because you're scripting so much, but you're not going to improve your speaking. Whereas, if you strategically plan videos, you're going to get good at planning videos and you're also going to get good at speaking off the cuff. Which skill would you rather build over the next months and years on a path to mastery? Would it be writing or would it be speaking? I definitely know which one I would rather build because one of them is being taken over by robots right now and that's writing.
Now, at its core, if we boil it down, an antiscript works by creating genuine value for your audience and then simply walking them through it off the cuff. That's all it is. So, the first component of this, how do we actually create value? Well, we need to look at who we're talking to obviously. So, who are you addressing on your channel? You should have that pretty clear in your mind. If you don't, let's get clear on it right now. Pause the video and just get clear on exactly who you are talking to.
So, in every video that you make, you're going to have an A and a B. Where is your audience right now? And what are they struggling with and what do they want? And then by the end of the video, where are they going to be having watched your video? Okay, in my example, it might be entrepreneurs who are feeling awkward or struggling to be authentic and natural on camera and they want to be confident and natural so they can grow their personal brand.
Now, within one single video, you're not going to solve that problem for your audience. So, instead of trying to break down the entire process of this big transformation, you're essentially just going to nudge them closer to getting them to that goal. So if your video has helped your ICP or your avatar get a bit closer to the transformation that they want, you have created genuine value. So you just need to answer that question within your video. And there's going to be obviously a multitude of different videos that you could make to help them get to that point. So it could be a mindset shift, you know, 5 to 10 minute video talking your audience through a really important mindset shift or limiting belief they need to break down to get to their goal. It could be a very practical series of tips that are just going to give your avatar a little sort of nudge along the way to their transformation. And so what your YouTube channel starts to look like is a series of videos that either link or don't link together to help your avatar achieve their transformation. Right?
So next, what is actually in between the A and the B? Well, I've given you some examples, but essentially how you want to think about it is distilling knowledge. And this is where the creation of genuine value happens. So it's helping somebody do specific thing and then distilling your knowledge as somebody who knows more about it than them and providing them with helpful tips in a fairly compressed time span hopefully.
So if you watched a video that was 2 hours long to give you a very simple mindset shift that you could have really understood in 2 minutes would you see that video is valuable or a waste of time? But if you saw a five-minute video that delivered you a mindset shift and three practical tips to go along with that mindset shift, you'd probably find that video incredibly valuable. So the value is created in the distillation of information. So this is why it's really important that you don't go down random rabbit holes and instead consciously and purposefully choose to emit information to guide your audience through this journey in a focused way. And remember, you're just getting them from their A little bit closer to their B. So, don't feel that there's all this pressure to overd deliver and give tons of information. You're just here to help them out. And this is the way that you build a channel that people just keep on tuning into because with every video, they know they're just going to get a little bit closer to their goal. They're going to get that nudge. They're going to get that shift. They're going to get those tips. They're going to get those hacks because all of those shifts and hacks and tips and steps are contained within this container of I'm helping you specifically get from here to here, which I know is what you want.
Now, the third component of this is a little bit like the elephant in the room in this video, which is how you deliver it. So, you might be thinking, "This is all well and good, Thomas, but actually I do feel a bit awkward on camera, and for whatever reason, when I press record, my voice doesn't come out right, and my thoughts are incoherent. So, how do I actually deliver around a very loose sort of set of strategic bullet points?"
Well, you've got to see speaking as driving a car, at least speaking on camera. So, when you're driving a car or learning how to drive a car, there are lots of little things that you need to learn. If you're driving manually or driving stick, you got to learn to press the clutch, shift gear, release the clutch, press accelerate. Like, you need to learn like all of these different steps indicate at the same time. And I remember when I first took my first driving lesson, I was thinking, how is it possible that I'm ever going to learn this? There's like I have to think of a thousand things at once, and it's impossible. But instead, over the course of whatever 20, 30 lessons and hours of driving, you just go through quite an organized textbook where these habits start to become ingrained over time and you focus on a specific set of skills, integrate them, then another specific set of skills, then integrate them. And this is exactly like speaking on camera.
So, when you first speak on camera, you might find that you're not very good at looking at the camera. Or you might find that your voice just comes out really monotonous. And those two habits are just going to kill your delivery and they're going to put a load of people off unfortunately. And so you might look at your video and think, "Oh, I'm crap at talking to camera. I'm just going to give up." But instead, you just first need to isolate those two habits. And instead of doing this, you want to try and keep eye contact with the camera, even though it feels uncomfortable. And then maybe just practice speaking in a slightly more expressive way, right? Then comes the problem of, okay, how do I actually maintain my train of thought and how do I link points together? and all of these other things come up, right? The same thing as when you're driving, how do I, you know, how do I parallel park or how do I reverse? All this stuff starts to come up as you get better.
And so, you have to realize here that if you want to speak around a strategic plan off the cuff, it's something that you need to learn. It's just a skill. And when I say skill, you might be like, "Oh god, another skill to learn. I haven't got any time." It's like, instead, don't think about it like that. Just think about it as this is just a skill and I can put in half an hour a day or 15 minutes a day just practicing this skill, practicing talking off the cuff around bullet points that help a specific person. And it just so happens to be that this is one of the highest leverage, most impactful, most profitable skills that you could possibly learn as an entrepreneur who's trying to build a personal brand.
So when you actually think about how you use your time in your day, is there a single skill that you could learn that could help you in your business more than this? There might be there might be like one or two skills, but probably not. This is probably in the top three skills that you could ever learn as an entrepreneur because it just bleeds into the rest of your life. So if you learn how to speak on camera, well, that's one thing. But if you learn how to speak on camera effectively, so you're able to unite your viewers around a vision, you're able to help people and deliver impactful, engaging information. How many areas of your life is that going to impact? It's going to impact your calls, your internal team meetings, your external presentations, your sales calls, your relationships, your ability to tell a story in a pub with your friends. It's a pretty awesome skill to have and it's a pretty painful skill not to have.
So, in the description of this video, I've put together a very basic antiscript plan. And it's like a one-page PDF where it just walks you through the who, the what, and the how, and gives you some pointers. And you can just you you can just copy that and use it as a template for the rest of your videos from now on if you want. It's just going to keep you focused on that avatar. It's going to keep you focused on distilling and delivering genuine value and then give you some pointers on how to actually deliver and also how to progress with your delivery. Because if you are switching from scripting to actually making this style of video, it's likely that the first few won't be very good and that would take a little bit of time for them to get better. So, it's just useful keeping that in mind like, okay, I will get better at this. Let's not judge the first video I make because number 10 is going to be way better than number one. So, feel free to download that. That is in the description below.
