Ice Flake Studios is a toner based studio and our specialization is management games and city builder games. That was very corporate. [laughter] You don't need to use that.
Ice Flake is one of the biggest [music] game companies here in Tambber and >> it was big news because it changes [music] the landscape of Tambra game development completely. >> Yeah, it's you if you're working on on game industry here in Tambber, [music] you're bound to stumble on people that have worked on CDs or or are working on CDs. And that is very heartwarming for us in our studio to know that this project stays at home.
Our [music] approach [music] of developing city skylines 2 will be different. I would say we are approaching the project in a way that we see 100 small steps instead of few [music] giant leaps and we want to be very transparent what we do. We want to be iterative what we do. [music] We want to hear what community thinks about the stuff we are doing and what we are intending to do. [music] So involving community is a big part and telling more openly what we are doing [music] are the theme in in our approach.
Also the thing with community there is an insane amount of knowledge. There's people who have been playing the game for [music] more than 1500 hours or even more. They know in depth how the simulation works and [music] how it should work and they know what they want the game to be. So we should listen to [music] them. Am I'm looking at the camera, dude. [laughter] a. Okay, you're going to cut. I mean, that's the main point. Like, we have to understand the community. We can't [music] just like march in and be like, "Hey, we're taking over." You know, obviously [music] they're going to have some concerns, right? Like, it's not going to be easy for them. So, we need to understand them and we need to reassure them. But I'm hoping that there will be some [music] excitement to see where this goes because we are so >> City Skylines 2 is a huge undertaking, but we have really built ourselves for that for the past decade. I would say [music] all our games that we have built have been iterating towards this [music] situation. Basically, >> quickly it's one, if you hold it, it's another. [music]
>> I have like endless of boards. There is also like uh improvement ideas. If I see something that could be better, then I'm not here. I'm doing this kind of stuff. And then there is like the programmer technical guy uh yeah Teimo. Yeah. Talking with him and trying to prioritize and what can be done and and systematically and what's the impact and what's the game play value. Teimmo [music] has the best like grasp on on this because he has been working on this like longer.
>> Yeah. Well, I used to teach game programming in [music] the university technical university here. I got some money to make my PhD thesis. So I went to local companies. One of them was quite interesting a known company back then called colossal order. Well I load wrote the core economy system and a lot of the services also. So basically everything that happens in the background how the city works. I think the biggest challenge is making the simulation work properly. We all know that it has had [music] issues. It's been getting better but it still needs a lot of work. It's a [music] super complex thing to get right. Everything affects everything. So that's going to take some [music] time and we will first focus on things that have an immediate impact and meanwhile [music] we build a plan on how to make the simulation more robust. And I worked a lot on the simulation code. So that's the dream [music] of mine to make that simulation work well, finish that job. But the visual side is is something that we are focusing on on on like from the get- go because there is lots of stuff that we can do there. I truly feel that this project has like direction already that it's like the identity is there for the game and I wouldn't go too far on that but it doesn't present itself like on the best light. It was super difficult for somebody.
>> We are now 39 people and growing. >> To make all this happen, we are adding new people into our team. We are also adding a new office expansion. >> Isn't there a bathroom and shower? Two bathrooms and one shower there. And then like this is a general area. [music] The future of city skylines is at Ice Lake. [music] [music]
We have already formed a list of things that we are going to be improving in the coming months. >> Yeah, I hope we will have a open discussion with the community. I think [music] that's the most important way to figure out what to prioritize. Be honest about the issues that we have. why [music] we cannot do something and then listen out to what people think is important and I think that [music] will help a lot to make the correct decisions on how to improve things. >> Ask them like hey what is it that you [music] want to see next like what is the big thing that you think we should tackle and that's how [music] how we're planning to do that. There's something that I would like like to say to the community is that we are really working on this actively and trying [music] to get it better every single patch that we do. [music] >> [music] >> I feel like it's not overwhelming at all. I'm [music] just like excited to get in there and just like >> cuz I I've been doing my research and I feel like we can do so much towards the community. I feel like we have so much potential. It's a strong foundation and there is so much potential [music] you can you you see in this game >> and it's just waiting to be unleashed. apartment. [music] What will [music] you do with your power? [music]
I saw a Reddit post where like someone said that what is Iceflake doing because we haven't really heard from them since surviving the aftermath and someone just replied that they are fins. They tell when they're ready. >> As a company there is a lot of knowhow of these kind of games although we can't really spo speak about them that much but uh coming soon. >> Yeah. >> [music] >> Are you? [music]
