Once again, welcome to the Fire Life Safety Director Master Class. At this point, we're on Section three. And just to reiterate, Sections one, two, and three: one primarily comes from the BIC and the Fire Plan. Two of the ten portions, Sections one through three, are unique to your building. Section three is the building familiarization portion, and a great deal of it comes from the Fire Plan. It's comprised of 14 questions the inspector may or may not ask you.
Question one: Where are the building's in-building relocation areas located? Is there an in-building relocation area on every floor? And if not, what staircase will be used to reach the in-building relocation area? Question three: Where is the primary assembly area located for the building? Four: Where is the alternate assembly area located for the building? Five: What are the names and titles of the three required fire life safety brigade members? Those brigade members are the Director of Security, the Chief of the Engineers, and the lead person from the Property Management Office. What are their names? What are their titles? Question six: What are the names and titles of the fire life safety staff members to assess elevator safety? These are likely persons from the cleaning crew. Question seven: What are the names and titles of the fire life safety staff members to assess entrances, exits, and stairways? Question eight: What is the building's primary stairway and elevator bank or car number to use for evacuation? This is only done with the approval of the Fire Department, but you need to know who this person would be. Question nine: What is the building's alternate stairway to use for evacuation? Question ten: What is the building's alternate elevator bank/car number to use for evacuation? Question eleven: How are the occupants accounted for at the assembly areas and the in-building relocation areas during an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) incident? In other words, how do you account for everyone there, making sure all are present, and for those who are not present, to make arrangements with the Fire Life Safety Director to communicate to him that employee Smith or employee Jones is not present with us? Question twelve: How is the Fire Life Safety Director notified if occupants are not accounted for from the assembly areas and the in-building relocation areas during an EAP incident? Is it by walkie-talkie? Is it by cell phone? Is it by warden phone? Question thirteen: Are there any hazardous materials listed on the building's information card? And if so, what are they and where are they located? Question number fourteen: Are there any special notes listed on the building information card, or the BIC card? That will conclude the questions from the Fire Plan.
So, Sections one, two, three: building knowledge, how well you know your building. Question Section two: Fire Plan building knowledge, as from the point of view of Fire Life Safety Director, a situation where there might be a fire and active evacuation is the goal. And Fire Plan building knowledge under an EAP scenario where the idea is to stay. Sections one, two, three again: your knowledge of your building.
