Foreign. [Music] Towards a general agreement, but I would need a more specific commitment from you that you cut out the cocaine, because I think that interferes with good functioning, and I think that interferes with getting to know people on a more real level. For how long? Indefinitely. And I can keep the medical marijuana. Why do you need the medical marijuana? Because I'm depressed. Well, but you don't think I'm the first. I don't doubt that you're depressed. I'm questioning the understanding of the source of your depression, and I think it's from deeply ingrained automatic ways of thinking and feeling. So, in that sense, I'm not sure the medical marijuana helps.

I don't know if I can quit that cold turkey. See, the thing about medical marijuana is, I suspect it blunts your feelings, and to do our work together, we need your feelings as raw as they can be, as real as they can be. We don't want to blunt them. Um, like a lot of people take medication, they say it helps them function, but it can dampen, it can blunt their feelings, and then they're less accessible for therapy. So, I understand you're worried that I won't be able to sort of sit with and tolerate all of your feelings, but I guess both of us have that concern, because you're saying you might need the marijuana to put a lid on some of your. Well, I won't smoke it before I come here, but I can't promise about the evening. Well, every evening? Yeah. See, in my mind, that's an avoidance of something in you. So, I would not, I wouldn't feel comfortable saying, "Sure, you can smoke every evening," because I think our job is to get at what you're feeling, not to avoid what you're feeling. Okay. Yeah.

So, I think we're getting close to an agreement with regard to the sex. Can you agree that you would use protection when you have sex? Yes, that, that I can promise. Okay, that sounds like we agree on. Yeah. What have we left uncovered? The timing of the session. All right, just for a start. Well, if I could, if I quit the marijuana, you can at least give you late sessions. Yeah, I'll be happy to give you late sessions. I have to look at my schedule, see what's available. Twice a week, but I wouldn't agree to your position that it's literally impossible for you to get up in the morning at a time when most people would get up who were trying to lead a more productive life than you've been doing. So, if we agree that, uh, with an effort, you might be capable of getting up, and, you know, you're not going to continue just sleeping halfway through the morning, then I think we could agree to begin the therapy. And, uh, and putting it in writing. Is that still a problem for you? It's an interesting question. I mean, I could do that. Yeah. That would make me feel comfortable. I don't think for too long. It might make you feel comfortable for a week or so, but then if you have those kind of doubts that you're telling me about, you're going to look at the paper and say, "What's the meaning of a piece of paper if he's going to decide he wants to get rid of me? He'll decide that anyway." So, if you want, I can sign the piece of paper, but I think the issue is going to remain. So, I don't think the paper is the issue. I think the difficulty you have trusting me, and probably anybody, is the deeper. This would help me trust you. We can see. Yeah. All right, I guess we can take it from there. [Music]
