Here are five Claude-code commands most people don't know exist. Number four alone completely changed how I work.
So, number one, {slash} compact. When your conversation gets long, Claude starts burning through tokens and losing context. I know that's happened to you at least a few times. Write {slash} compact and it compresses your entire conversation. You keep going without starting over and without wasting tokens.
Now, the second one, which goes hand in hand with this one, it's {slash} context. This shows you exactly how much of your context window you've used. If you're over 80%, that's when Claude starts forgetting things and giving you wrong answers. So, you have to run this regularly.
Now, number three, when you launch a new session of Claude-code, just type in {slash} resume. This picks up your last conversation exactly where you left off.
Now, number four, {slash} effort and then you can choose the effort level. See, you have a couple of options here. Whenever you start a new project or you're doing something complex, just write {slash} effort max. Sometimes when you use predefined skills, for example, you can just set the effort to low and you'll stop wasting your tokens.
Now, number five, this works while Claude is working on something else. So, just write {slash} BTW, by the way, and it's going to answer your question. So, you get answers without cluttering your context. And then to dismiss it, press space, enter, or escape.
