How You Interact with the Spirit Realm Daily (Body, Soul, and Spirit Explained)

David Diga Hernandez24:34

Transcription

Let's begin by looking at a key verse. 1 Thessalonians 5:23.

"Now, may the God of peace make you holy in every way. And may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus comes again."

Now, notice here that the scripture is describing three different aspects to your nature. So, there are three aspects to who you are. I'm not saying that you're a trinity or that you're three persons in one or that you have three personalities. What rather is being described are the different facets of your single nature.

First, let's talk about the body. This can be described as your earth suit. Your physical body is the means by which you experience the material world. It's how you interact with other individuals in a way that you can understand. It's how you exist on this plane.

Now, as you read the scripture, you'll see references to the physical body. And sometimes the body is referenced as the flesh. And this is so key that we understand this because sometimes in the New Testament when you see the word flesh, it's describing the physical body. And other times when you see the word flesh, that is a description of the sinful nature.

Now, it's important to distinguish these two because if you're not careful and you come to mix those terms up, you will come to believe that your body is inherently evil or that it's wicked unto itself. When in reality, the scripture makes it clear that your body is actually the temple of the Holy Spirit. That is, the manifested presence of the Holy Spirit, the actual presence of God lives in you. In fact, you are walking in union with the Holy Spirit.

So, it's important that you understand that because you may see your body as just a tool for evil when in fact your body can be a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. Your body is the dwelling place of the glory of God. Your body can be used for ministry, for godly actions. Your body can be used unto the glory of God. So no, your body is not some evil perverted thing all on its own. It can be used for those things, but your body is in fact a reflection of the nature of God, one of God's gifts to you that you can use for his glory.

So that is the physical being, the body. But again, we're describing the earth suit. And this is the means by which you interact with the material world.

Next, I want to talk to you about the soul. Your soul consists of your mind, your will, your emotions, and your personality. That is your mind, what you think, your will, what you desire, your emotions, what you feel, your personality, how you are.

Now, God created you with a unique personality. And while we all should become like Christ in character, it's important to remember that God created you with a specific personality. So he did create individuals that reflect different aspects of your nature. So there is this variety within God's creation that we ought to embrace.

So when we talk about the mind and we talk about the will and we talk about your emotions, this all has to do with the soul which is the realm of decision. That is this is where you make your choices. This is where you exercise the power of free will. And so when you're presented with either doing something godly or ungodly that begins in the mind that's exercised in the will. It may express itself in the body. That is the soul may use the body as the vehicle but really that decision is being made in the realm of the soul.

Finally we see the spirit. Now your spirit is your innermost being. Remember John 7:38, Jesus said, "Out of your innermost being will flow rivers of living water." It's important to note here and remember the key verse that I often quote. 1 Corinthians 6:17. "He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him."

And this is a revelation I pray that the Holy Spirit helps you to capture. You are already one with the Holy Spirit. If I were to get two glasses of water and pour them into a single vessel, not only would you not again be able to separate those waters, you wouldn't be able to tell those waters apart. You would recognize that the two had become one. In the same way, when you were born again and you became alive in the spirit, you became alive unto union with the Holy Spirit.

So your body, your earth suit, your soul, that's free will, emotions, your thoughts, your personality, and then there is the spirit, which is where you find your true identity. And as Christians, we're not aiming to connect with God. And I know that may sound uh like something negative or may sound a little bit um disrespectful to what the journey of faith is, but I don't mean it in that way. In fact, we should be inspired to know that we're not living in an attempt to connect with God. Christianity is not an attempt to connect with God. It's living out of that union that you already have.

So, we don't pray to connect with God. We don't read the Bible to connect with God. We don't worship to connect with God. We pray from connection with God. We embrace the word from connection with God. We worship from union with God.

So living in the spirit, when we talk about living in the Holy Spirit, we're talking about living from that place where the inner influence dominates all aspects of your being. Watch this now. 1 Corinthians 2:10-12. "But it was to us that God revealed these things by his spirit. For his spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets. No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit. And no one can know God's thoughts except God's own [snorts] spirit. And we have received God's spirit, not the world's spirit. So we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us."

Notice here in verse 10 that Paul writes that the spirit that is the Holy Spirit searches the depths of God and then shows us God's deep secrets. Well, think about that. That union that you have with the Holy Spirit is deep calling unto deep. The deepest part of who you are connected with, one with in union with the depths of who God is. And so as we've been united with the Holy Spirit, we find our identity in that union. We find the basis for our entire Christianity in that union. We find our love for Jesus in that union. That inner divine life which produces actual results.

So then we go we go from striving that is trying to connect with God. This is many Christians are stuck in that mind frame. I have to connect with him. I have to get his attention. I have to be accepted by him. And while it's good to want to be accepted by God, it's also important to remember the standard by which he accepts us. And that is perfection, which none of us can meet. Therefore, we rely on what Christ has done. Rest in the finished work. And because of the finished work, we can place our faith in him, experience the miracle of salvation, receive this new nature by the Holy Spirit, be united with God, and then live out of that union.

So, I'm not striving for connection with God. I'm surrendering to the influence of that connection that already exists. You are already connected with God.

Before you came to know Jesus, you had been born in this physical world. You had been born with physical sight and physical hearing. You had been born with physical senses and a physical being to exist on a physical plane. Before you came to know Jesus, you had a soul. That is, you had a personality. You had a will. You had emotions. You had desires. You had thoughts. But you were dead in the spirit. That is, you weren't alive unto God. You weren't alive unto that union. You were an outer shell of who you are now.

And when you were born again, you were born again in the spirit. "That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the spirit is spirit." when you came to life in the spirit when receiving Christ. Now that that spirit came alive, united with the Holy Spirit and as a believer, you now live out of that place of union. So you are alive unto God.

Think about what Jesus said. Jesus said, "Don't be afraid of the one who can destroy just the body." He said, "Be afraid of the one who can destroy both the body and the soul in hell." Notice there that Jesus doesn't mention the spirit because those who are alive in the spirit don't go to hell.

And so we've received this new life. Now watch. You live now in this union. You don't have to fight for that. You don't have to perform for that. You don't have to beg for that. You are a child of God. You've been united with him. So then to live in the Holy Spirit is to live from this place of union. To live from this place of connection with God. to live from this place of divine influence.

And I want to show you how to do that. But first, if this is blessing you, inspiring you, opening your spiritual eyes, then make sure that you leave a like on this video right now. Okay. So, you're one with the Holy Spirit. Body exists in the material world. Soul is where you exercise free will. Spirit is where you're alive unto God, connected with him. How do you then begin to live in this influence?

Well, first we must establish that in the spirit, yes, there is that union. But I have to make it abundantly clear that in the spirit, you have and are everything God desires. Let me say that again. In the spirit, you have and are everything God desires. I am the righteousness of God in Christ. I am a child of God. I am seated with him in heavenly places. I am healed. I am delivered. I I am the royal priesthood. All of these things. That is who you are.

You have all that he desires to give you. Spiritual gifts, boldness, holiness, clarity of mind, peace of mind, love for others, love for Jesus, love for the church. All of these things exist already within your spirit. So you don't need more love. You don't need more power. You don't need more grace. You don't need more gifts. You need more surrender.

You see, you have the Holy Spirit, but does the Holy Spirit have you? That is, are you allowing him to have his influence? So then to live in the Holy Spirit is to choose to live from this place of maturity. In the spirit, you're already mature. In the spirit, you already know God. Your spirit has no questions. Your spirit is one with him, united with Christ.

So then spiritual growth, by the way, isn't even technically spiritual growth. It's not your spirit growing. Spiritual growth is when the outer shells of who you are. Spiritual growth is when the rest of you catches up with who you already are in the spirit. Revelation, that is receiving new knowledge of God and the matters of the spirit. Revelation isn't even technically receiving new information. Revelation is when that which I know in my spirit already is understood in my natural mind. And so you live from within not from without.

Now many believers they they face the exterior. So their soul, that is their will, their mind, they focus that on the exterior and they look around them and if they go through a trial, they say, "Well, God abandoned me." If they're dealing with difficult people, they lose their patience. If they're struggling financially, they begin to fear. If if somebody hurts their feelings, then they hold on to bitterness. Why? Because they're looking at the exterior.

Here's the problem with facing the exterior. When you face the exterior, everything is constantly changing around you. Everything is up and down. Nothing is consistent. Nothing is stable. Nothing is truly reliable. And so, if you're living facing [music] the exterior, that is living in the flesh. And again, when I say the flesh, I'm not just talking about the s of nature. I'm talking about living in just the experience of this material world. And I have to add this so we don't get religious about it. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the material world that God has created as long as you're not enjoying the sin in the material world. The earth reflects God's taste. He created everything in it. The beauty, the glory, the majesty, the color, the the life, everything about it. He created gave to you as a gift and he gives us everything that we need for our enjoyment.

So when I talk about facing the exterior, I'm not just talking about sin and compromise. I'm talking about being so focused on just this [music] world that you forget about the reality of the spirit. The reverse can also be true. Some don't even think about how they can impact this world because they're just focused on themselves. But when we face just the exterior, our emotions go up and down with the change in circumstance. When we face the exterior, from one day to the next, we might have peace on one day and not peace on the next. We might have joy in the morning and then experience just sorrow at night.

Now, sometimes you'll face a trial or a disappointment, the death of a loved one, some delay, and it will cause us to experience emotions. And I'm not saying you should disconnect from those emotions. I'm saying that you should keep all of these things in proper perspective so that you can rule over the circumstances instead of the circumstances ruling over you.

Many people think that life is just [music] something that's happening around them, happening to them. All of the negative circumstances, all of the disappointments, all of the delays, everything is something that just controls who they are. And that's not the reality. It's true. Miracles happen, healing happens, deliverance happen, breakthrough happens, financial blessings occur. All of that is true. But maybe, just maybe, the big breakthrough that you're praying for isn't going to come first through a dramatic outward change in circumstance. Maybe the breakthrough God wants to give you right now begins with a simple internal shift to where instead of just obsessing over this material world, instead of just obsessing over what's happening around you, what's happening to you, what's happening through your loved ones, what's happening in conversation, instead of looking at just the disappointments and the delays and the trials, instead of just focusing on those things which are part of reality, you also begin to draw strength from the innermost. most being to live in the spirit.

To live in the spirit is to face the things of the spirit. To live in the spirit is to be aware of the influence of the holy spirit. To live in the spirit is to submit to the voice of the holy spirit. To live in the spirit is to keep the material world seen through the perspective of the holy spirit. All things in [music] their proper place. So that now when I face the inner, the exterior doesn't affect me. Yeah. Things may be going wrong out there, but inwardly I still have peace and joy and love [music] and power and grace and holiness and boldness and certainty. And I'm still confident in my identity. Why? Because I live from within to without. That divine life flowing from within to without.

So that when troubles become too much to bear, I'm not crying out for an escape. Instead, I just go to the secret place. I I I go inward in fellowship with the spirit and the things around me begin to fade. And the burdens that seem so heavy in one instance become light as a feather in another. And the troubles and the problems that seem so difficult, so complex, they become simple. When I learn to live in the spirit, I stop just obsessing about what's around me and I start focusing on who lives in me. When I live in the spirit, the pressures of life that should cause depression and anxiety are held back by the protective force that is the peace and the love and the joy of the spirit. So that even when I don't feel in my emotions that I'm close to God, I know in my spirit that [music] we are one. So that even in my emotions when I don't feel like he accepts me, I know in my spirit I'm his [music] child.

To live aware of the exterior, mastering the soul and focusing through the perspective of the spirit. To live in the spirit is to see in the spirit, to walk with the spirit and to allow the influence from within to change everything without.

Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you would help us to do this. Come on, pray with me now. Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you would help us to [music] live by your Holy Spirit. Help us to obey the voice of [music] the Holy Spirit, to embrace the joy and the love and the peace of the Holy Spirit, to rely upon the strength of the Holy Spirit to yield to that precious guiding hand of the precious Holy Spirit. Lord, give us the strength and the awareness in moments where we worry, in moments where we despair, in moments where we become confused, help us to pause and to invite the [music] influence of the precious Holy Spirit. Help us to pause and to look unto you. Give us strength. Strength for the hour ahead. strength for everything we will face, strength to do your will. Cause us to be willing to obey you, I pray. And Lord, bring healing to their bodies. Come on, believe for your healing right now in Jesus name. Let your healing virtue flow. Precious Holy Spirit, I command every cell in your body to respond to the frequency of God's voice in the name of Jesus. and every demonic bondage be broken. I bind addiction. I come against every demonic attack be set free. Holy Spirit, overwhelm them with the influence of your presence. We give you the praise and the glory and the honor. Type it in the comment section right now. If you agree, type a big amen.

Not only do we pray in the spirit and live in the spirit and think in the spirit [music] and act in the spirit and submit to the Holy Spirit, we must also give in the spirit. Part of the Christian life is generosity. That is [music] giving of our material resources to further spiritual causes. Now, biblically speaking, as you're blessed by the word from ministry, you as the believer are to sew into that ministry that [music] the ministry might continue in Jesus' name.

So, this is where I need your help. I can't do this by myself. Yes, the Lord has called me and yes, the Lord is the one opening the doors. But do you know how the Lord works in the kingdom? He uses people like you filled with generosity and love and an understanding [music] of what it takes to reach this world. And I believe that God is speaking. And I believe that the Holy Spirit has ordained this moment. And so I want you to hear from the Holy Spirit now and step out and help us continue our work.

Listen, I say this almost every time I create [music] a content piece, but it's true every time. The doors are opening. The ministry is still expanding after all these years. We're still seeing major growth. And in order to keep up with all of this, in order to say yes to the urgent need ahead, and it is urgent, there are doors opening now. There are souls waiting now. There are lives waiting to be transformed now. Don't discount [music] yourself. Don't say, "Oh, my giving doesn't matter," or "Someone else will do it," or, "Oh, I really only I could only do this amount," or, "Mine wouldn't really matter all that much. It's just a small gift." Listen, those are all lies. Don't believe them because the power is in our unity. All of us together obeying the Holy Spirit, that's an unstoppable force. The church, the ministry should be the most wellfunded initiative in the earth today because it's the most important. So help [music] us to do this. Step out in faith. Give in the spirit. Give with faith. That is do something [music] that challenges you. Give with generosity. That is go above and beyond for the Lord's [music] work. Help us continue in ministry.

I'm asking many of you right now to become my monthly ministry partner. You can do so [music] by going to davidhernandezministries.com/partner. You can also give a single gift by going to davidhernandezministries.com/donate. Give what you can. I believe there are even successful business people watching that [music] the Holy Spirit is speaking key amounts to you. Significant amounts that can help push our agenda forward. You can call me delusional. I don't care. I am a man of faith. I believe we can win the world to Jesus. I believe [music] that we can see this kingdom expand. This gospel preached to the ends of the earth. We [music] are in the battle for a soul of a generation. And I need your help. The work [music] can be done. The harvest is plentiful. Help send us to the harvest. [music] One more time, davidernnanministries.com/partner to become a monthly supporter/donate to give a single gift.
