[Music] [Applause] oh [Music] [Music] what's up youtube coming to you with another banger james hannah ball hard reptiles here today this video is going to be a little different focus from my normal videos this one is going to be actually about asf's african softwares let me explain that to you some call them devil dogs some call them little cute furry things i don't know but we're gonna talk about them and i'm gonna give you five pros and five cons let's talk about the pros ladies and gentlemen the first pro would actually be smell let me break it down to you smell they smell a lot less than regular rats african sulphurs it's just it's like night and day i i don't know how else to explain it you have the sun and you have the moon i mean that's the way the smell is i mean you can keep more of the african sulfurs with less of a ammonia rat smell i mean that's just what it is folks so let's move on to number two we're not even going to waste no time number two is health health when i say health i mean health of the african sufferers themselves and i mean health of the wreck of of the snakes the snakes in your collection the snakes that you're breeding the snakes that you care for the snakes that you love help i've noticed that when since i've been feeding my my snakes in my collection african sulphurs they've grown extremely fast and they look extremely like shinier like like they're like when you i can reference it to like dogs i used to be bigger than pit bulls you can feed your dog eggs rice and the eggs and the rice will make the dog's coat shatter i mean if you get your dog on the right diet it'll look beautiful my snakes they're just growing like wildfires off the african sulfurs like it just is what it is they're just way healthier they're way shinier their colors are more vibrant and it's just a beautiful thing um also with the health speaking and the health of the actual rodents these rodents seem to be healthy i mean i haven't had many birth defects i haven't had many moms that are um cannibalism kind of eating their young i haven't had any of that i mean they've been healthy so they're keeping my snakes full my snakes look good and everything's good on the health on a health spectrum of everything let's move on to number three ladies and gentlemen number three would be water and food these guys african sulphurs they actually eat less and drink less than regular rats um during the time when they have babies and they have litters and they start having letters and they give birth and the moms give birth they do drink a lot of water more water than normal but i mean as far as water and food there are a lot less on your pocket it just is what it is let's get to number what number are we on number four number four four is size and growth they will not outgrow your ball python ever like african softwares will not outgrow your ball python they'll always be the size where you'll be able to feed your breeders your breeder males or your larger snakes if you're not breeding snakes and you just have adults and you have some babies um the regular rats can outgrow your snake tremendously they can get bigger than uh they'll get to a size where those jumbo racks will get to a size where ball python won't feel comfortable eating it so you don't have to worry about that um so sizes i mean that's a good thing to me that's also why i really would recommend them let's go on to number five breeding once these guys get going some people say it may be hard to start them but once these guys get going they're just tremendous tremendous breeders i mean they breed like they're what they're they're giving me letters as soon as they drop a letter there's moms in the colony that are already exp there you can see them bulging and they're already pregnant um so i would have to say that breeding um breeding them has been good for me i mean i keep them on a high protein diet i feed them dog food um the brand of dog food i feed them it's called diamond um it's for high energy dogs high energy animals um so once you get them on a good dad and you figure out what works which is normally high protein and a good fat content i mean i don't even use supplements and i have i have three bins right now that i have litters in every bin i mean and i haven't supplemented them and the one the colony that i have at the bottom i've had they're on probably their sixth litter and they're still just they're just pumping them out and that's the colony i'm actually going to show you guys because um they're them they're the most calm so once i'm done with the pros and cons i'm gonna give you guys a little visual little visual of uh africa sulphur colony so that was it for the pros let's get to the cons you know i got a little moves anyway number one con colonies these guys build colonies meaning once a male and the three females or the two females you put together once they start breeding and having babies you have to leave them together you can't throw another male in there you can't take the male out and then throw another male in or take a female out and throw another female and you they'll kill whoever comes into their colony you have to raise them up from a baby so if your male gets sick or you have a female that's getting older and she can she's no longer producing large quantity of pups um you have to grow one of the smaller pups up and let them take over with inside the colony because if you bring another one in from the outside in yeah it's gonna be a fight it's gonna get bloody ugly and not good so that's different with rats because you know you can take the male out put another male in such with rats and they'll accept them but these guys these guys they're not with the funny business number two to roll off the topic i mean the backup the funny business is aggression africa sulphurs are aggressive i'm sorry i mean do i handle mine and do i socialize with them and pop popcorn and watch netflix with them no i don't but i mean i feed them i clean them they know me i'm down here pulling babies out but um it's i've noticed with within their aggression you just got to watch them the colony i had first normally when the moms first have their litters they are aggressive um they if you try to pull the pups out you may get bitten they will run towards you aggressively and bite you so you just gotta strap up put gloves on or something but i've noticed like after the first two litters and so forth they calm down um my first colony they're on like their sixth or seventh litter as i stated before they have actually calmed down a lot like they're used to me going in there and they know that i'm not gonna harm their babies um [Music] i mean but they are aggressive i mean they will sneak bite you sometimes they might not even sneak and their bites hurt so just i mean it's nothing major but something to think about i've seen people handle them without getting bitten just like i've seen people handle regular rats without getting bitten and sometimes people get bit by regular rats but these guys are a little bit more aggressive number three is they are fast i'm talking fast like speedy gonzalez fast road runner underlay i'm delay they're fast i'm telling you guys like they're fast man like they are fast i've i've put them in my snake tub and they've gotten out before i could even close the tub and i already know they're fast so i'm closing the tub fast and they still jump out fast they can jump they're agile they're quick they're intelligent like and they're kind of um like schizos so they're cut they're always on point because they're very paranoid and um they're hard to feed man like honestly i'm i'm in the process of working out getting a uh the proper ways to euthanize them because it would be a lot easier feeding because like i said you know sometimes i want to show my snakes eating and stuff and it's kind of hard to do because they're quick so remember that too that um they are fast and they might get out number four they are escape artisans on top of being fast um they will chew through they will escape they will climb they will look for any given i mean it's a rat all rats chew so that i mean that's to be expected um asf's are a little bit more of uh advanced chewers meaning like they can get to the corner of a tub that maybe a normal rat wouldn't think about chewing and and found a way to chew a hole out so always remember that when you're getting into these guys that they are chewers so we will go to number five number five folks the babies um they take long to kind of grow up to get to that stage um they don't really mature that fast um so it's kind of hard to get them up to where you need them at the males tend to grow a lot faster than the females i've noticed that they pick up weight a lot faster but they stay small longer than regular rats so i mean you end up with a lot of small ones before you get you really have to focus on your grow outs with these guys so that's the last that's the last con man i mean it's focusing on your grow outs and i mean if i had to pick one of course i mean i breed asf's right now um some of my snakes do still eat regular rats but i feel like the asf is a better choice for me i mean i'm a small breeder i don't have many snakes i don't have much space so it's kind of one of those things that you know they kind of go together and they call it sad so let me um show you guys some asf's let me get them out so those are some of the babies the smaller ones i mean they're they're not bad when they're this age they're cute actually see but i got a lot of them in here there's some under the box here but you see the ones in the corner and they kind of hang out there together but those ones are i'd have to say they're they're about at um they're about eight weeks of age right now most of them in there so that's the size they are when they're eight weeks and um like i said it takes some kind of some time to grow but they're cute and over here we have some babies i can't get it see the babies look how cute they are those cute little babies that's about those babies are from three moms i think there's a mom up here getting some water but yeah guys i mean they are some very interesting animals needless to say so it's a big decision it's a big decision when you want to decide which ones you want to breed yeah so like i said before guys you just gotta make the decision on what's better for you i mean for me i made the decision to go with asf's and um i mean i like i mean i like them like i said they're kind of tough to deal with as far as them being mobile and being extremely fast but other than that i mean they're fine man they're not they're not bad rodents but um i'm gonna wrap this video up those are my five pros those are my five cons to breeding asf's and having asf rats to feed to your snakes so i'll catch you guys on the next video um you guys stay safe um enjoy your week stay safe and once again man ball hard or go home later
