Hello all good people of the world. I hope you are well out there during these rather tumultuous times. Um, we are here today to talk about two programs: one for depression, fatigue, and immune support, and one for immune support. And they overlap and link back and forth, which I think is pretty interesting. And these are like, basically what I order by the case for my family. My son's on these, my mom's on these, I'm taking these, my sister is on these, my other sister in Dubai is on these, my sister's kid in Dubai who lives in Dubai is on these. Anyway, these are like essential basic things. So I figured we should talk about them at least a little bit and kind of try to tie in a little bit about the connection between these nutrients and the ways that we, um, produce antibodies, right? Because that's kind of the subject of the day. So let's talk about, just for a moment, how you make antibodies and how you make, uh, proteins and how that relates to this stuff.

Now, we're we're not really going to be talking too much about, um, you know, food because we're assuming that you guys are all eating healthy, okay? That's, it's kind of not what today is about. We really want to focus more on how all this stuff actually works, okay? Because this is where it gets pretty interesting. And, um, this may be a little complicated, but stick with me for a minute and you'll see that there's a point to it. And I'll keep it short so you don't have to stretch your brain too, too hard, okay? So here we go. And this is just a basic physiology that we should really know. So let me take a look at this. Hang on. Get this be a little clearer for you. There we go.

So generally, what happens in your body? If you look at your whole body, right? If you took out all the water and all the fat and the bones and stuff, the only that's really left is going to be protein of some type. Your organs, every organ is protein. Every neurotransmitter that you make is protein, right? Your hemoglobin is a prote protein, right? Your bones even are made of kind of a special kind of weird sort of protein structure, right? So B basically, every single thing that's running your body is made out of protein. And the way that proteins are made is quite interesting. Is we take amino acids and we string them together to these polypeptide bonds, and they end up curling around and twisting around, and that's what this picture is showing here, okay? And if these proteins don't fold up properly, okay? And we have a misfolded protein, then you're in trouble, okay? And if you don't have the enough of these, um, amino acids to make these proteins, and you can't even begin the whole process of starting to make them, and then you're in serious trouble too. So this is kind of like a little bit of a technical lecture, but I just wanted to show that image there because and the proteins are super cool when you look at them. Let me just show you a picture of a protein. Um, they're beautiful, really. They're just absolutely beautiful. Uh, and this is like one of those basic things you're just really supposed to know about your body. Yeah, here, check this out. This is a really great one here. I love this picture. Sorry, hang a second. There it is. Here we go. There. Look at that. See that? It's kind of curly and twisty, and it has these helixes and these ribbons and stuff. Those are all strings of amino acids. And if you're missing even one amino acid, even one essential amino acid is missing, you can't make any of these proteins. So every single protein in the body, except for collagen, is dependent on having a complete set of amino acids. You're missing one amino acid, none of this protein assembly can happen. And the way to think about it is like if there's, if you imagine like you had a bicycle chain, right? And had these links together, and then you locked your bike up, and if one, one of the links was broken, it would not be a very effective bicycle lock, right? Because someone just take your bike. So it's the same thing. If you're missing one single amino acid, the entire structure of a protein falls apart. It can't fold right, and it won't work properly.

So now, if you think about this from an immune perspective, you have to have amino acids to make antibodies. If you're missing even one essential amino acid, you cannot make antibodies effectively. Even one is missing, it won't work. It would be like if you got a brand new car. Not that I've been looking at the Porsche 9911 turbo Carrera website thing lately, but I have. I can't afford one of those cars, but they're beautiful, right? If you bought a brand new Porsche Turbo, like not even the 2020, the 2021 model, and it didn't have the front left wheel, would it work? No. Wouldn't, would it work a little bit? Could you drive like slowly? No, you couldn't drive at all, right? Missing one wheel, car won't work. Missing one amino acid, proteins can't assemble. Amino acids make antibodies. Antibodies are made out of protein. So you have to have these in, in your system in order to get going.

Now, they do all kinds of other things too, right? They help us make energy. Amino acids help make all your brain chemicals. They do, you know, every aspect of the immune system, right? Is made up of these amino acids. So they're really essential and really basic. And when we test people, which I test, you know, people all day long for a job, we often find that these amino acids are low. And you can get them in amino acid powders. And this is the basis of cellular repair and growth. It also helps people with more, give you energy, sleep quality improves, antibody production improves, right? All these things are going to start to improve if you have the right balance of amino acids. So that's the one component to the program. And we use them a lot also just for people who are tired and depressed. Also, in order to get all this to work in terms of energy production, cellular energy production, you also have to have magnesium in the picture, okay? And so magnesium is almost like the spark that makes this whole fire happen. And magnesium does a bunch of other things besides help with energy production. It also helps balance your blood pressure. When we're stressed out, we're tend to be low in magnesium. We tend to get kind of cranky, and your muscles get sore and tight. You don't sleep real well, and those kinds of things. And I've again, test people every, every day, and I see low magnesium levels on the majority of my patients. In fact, it's, it's unusual to see a normal magnesium. The only people that have normal magnesium levels, um, and you could be like this too, if you want, eat green leafy vegetables with every meal. Swiss chard, kale, collar greens, mustard greens, anything that's green and bitter and dark. If you eat greens three times a day, you will have normal magnesium. If you don't, it's questionable how good your magnesium levels are, okay? So if your diet is prec, you can get enough magnesium. If not, it's probably not going to be that great.

And so, and the cool thing about this is, I like this idea of a cocktail. Not that I ever drink cocktails, maybe I drink Manhattans with rye once in a while, okay? Limit that to twice a week at the most. But anyways, the idea of a cocktail is you take your amino acid powder, s shoot. You take your magnesium powder shot, shake it all up, drink it down, done for the day, right? So a lot of people don't like to take tons of pills or capsules. It's kind of awkward, it's kind of weird. It's also sort of fun to call it a cocktail because then you feel like you're having fun, but you're doing something good for yourself. So we're calling it fatigue, depression, and immune system support cocktail. Amino acids and magnesium together. And hopefully, you understand now a little bit more about that with the antibody explanation.

So now, on the other side here, we're looking at zinc and vitamin D. And why is zinc so important? And zinc has been studied for decades. This is not a personal opinion. This is not a new idea. Zinc very actively supports your immune system, okay? And there's thousands of research studies. I would say for anyone who studies zinc, you would never be able to in this lifetime read every research study that's been written about zinc. It's a very, very well-studied nutrient by many scientists from all over the world. And it's clear that zinc stimulates the synthesis of white blood cells and gets other immune components like neutrophils and T lymphocytes, even natural killer cells, going. And we find on the labs, not as often as magnesium, but, you know, like, I don't know, probably two or three out of 10 patients have low zinc. You maybe 20 or 30% of the people I test have low zinc. And, um, it's not as easily lost under stress. So, you know, levels tend to hang in around a little bit more. But you can also, even if your zinc levels are normal, you can still use zinc very effectively for its antiviral activity. So in the world of supplements, there's kind of two things you can do. You can do the fancy lab test that I order on patients all the time, which I highly recommend, by the way. If you haven't done an ion panel, you truly haven't lived yet, and you should sign up with Jennifer for a free consult and, you know, ask her what an ion panel is, even, and she can explain all that to you, and you can change your life with, you know, better nutrition through supplementation, okay? But if you're not going to do that, even if your zinc levels test okay, you can still use zinc as, you know, for its antiviral immune stimulating functions. So two ways you can use nutrients: you test, you see you're low, you darn well better replace whatever's missing. Even if you don't order a test, there's some general things that you can take that are safe if you're dosing yourself right, including something like zinc, which even if your zinc levels are normal, will have an antiviral effect.

And then the other nutrient, and this is like crazy town, crazy, crazy town, okay? Um, let me show you this. I couldn't believe this when I saw it. Is, uh, vitamin D. You know, and we all know vitamin D, you've all heard of it, especially these days. Um, but what's happening now is an explosion of research on it. And, uh, I just saw this study that came through the other day. Let me just show you real quick. British Medical Journal. Leave it to the Brits, one step ahead of us. Uh, so, so, and, um, you can just Google this. British Medical Journal, COVID, vitamin D. This thing will pop right up. And it's an analysis of 40 different research studies that have come out recently on the use of vitamin D and the prevention, treatment of COVID, okay? The most famous, probably of the most, not famous, but the one that garnered the most media attention, I think, was a study they did in Spain, which was really quite remarkable, where they gave certain patients vitamin D and certain patients didn't get vitamin D, and the outcomes with COVID were really quite dramatic, dramatically different, right? So anyways, this is that now entering mainstream conventional medical literature, like the British Medical Journals, um, excited about vitamin D, you know what I mean? They're like, hey, let's think about this as a serious treatment option for viral infections. And that's kind of a nice news flash, you know? Take something like a pandemic for people to wake up and start to look at the research on vitamin D. If you go back and you look at the research on vitamin D from years and years ago, it's been shown to be highly effective against coronaviruses, not just the new one that we're all dealing with now, but, you know, for a long time, people have known about this. It's just now we're applying it in a more desperate situation. So it's got a sense of urgency behind it. I test vitamin D levels on everybody. How do we do that? With Jennifer, right? Doing an ion panel. If you're interested, call Jennifer, she'll help you do an ion panel. It also measures zinc and magnesium and everything that we're talking about. Measures all the amino acids. The ion panels measure all the fat-soluble antioxidants, all the fatty acids, all what we call organic acids, fat burning, blood sugar regulation. It measures everything that you could ever imagine about omega-3 and omega-6 fats, saturated fat, unsaturated fat, amount of unsaturated fat. Um, it's an incredible test. It's, it's truly a life-changing experience for most patients to to see their entire cell physiology, your entire body represented on this lab. It's really quite phenomenal. But anyways, part of the test is vitamin D. Almost everybody that I test is low in vitamin D. It's very unusual. Now, of course, I'm testing people that, you know, usually have some health problem or for some reason want to get checked, right? So, uh, about 80% of the patients that I test are low in D. I think in the US, it's something like 70% of adults, 10% of children are low in D. And the medical docs have a pretty wimpy definition of what vitamin D normal levels should be, right? So their levels are like around a 30, they consider adequate, 20 to 30 range. In my world of integrative medicine, we want you around a 50 to a 70. So the vast majority of people that I look at are not at optimum vitamin D, the sort of vitamin D levels that keep you alive. And then there's vitamin D levels that allow you to thrive and be super healthy, and we want you in that 50 to 70 range. So, um, you can get toxic in vitamin D, so don't go out and just binge on it and take bottle after bottle. But, you know, if you're somewhere between 2,000, 4,000 IUs a day, you're going to be in good shape. In the era of COVID, when I mean seriously, we should be a little bit more paranoid about this. Get your vitamin D levels up. I think a minimum of around 5,000 units a day is is probably where you want to be until this whole pandemic thing is just calmed down, okay? So it not only helps prevent from getting COVID, when people get COVID, again, look at those British Medical Journal studies, you'll see that when people do get COVID, if they're given vitamin D, their outcomes are much better, especially you can look at that study from Spain because it was quite interesting.

So there's a bunch of other things that vitamin D does. One of them, which is quite interesting, is it regulates gene expression. So vitamin D goes in. I have a little picture on that too here. I don't know. I think this stuff is kind of interesting, the sciency part of it. You see how it all works? So vitamin D helps regulate how these genes work, and then ultimately, these genes end up, guess what? Making proteins, okay? And what do you need to make proteins? Amino acids. That's over here, right? And so vitamin D is amazing. Vitamin D, I think of it like, um, if you read about it a lot, which you all should, we should all be reading about vitamin D. The next time that you're on Hulu or Netflix and you're like, "H, I'm going through an emotional experience right now." I'll tell you about, honestly, Bosch, which is, uh, it's not on, it's actually on, I think Amazon Prime. But Bosch, the first five seasons of Bosch, it's a detective show. If you haven't seen this, were just amazing. I was so engaging and I loved it, and it was my favorite show. And I'm on season six of Bosch right now, and I'm on like episode four. I don't even really know what's happening anymore. It's such a confusing season and it's just not satisfying. So if you're in a kind of low like that with whatever TV you're watching, you can spend an hour and Google and read about vitamin D and how it works and all these kinds of things. And look up amino acids and proteins and how they work. You know, spend an hour kind of perking up your science knowledge on these basic things that are really, really critical for the time that we're in. But anyways, vitamin D's role, right, in regulating, um, your immune, in relating, in regulating your genetic expression is going to be dependent, like we were talking about in the very beginning. It's kind of a circular thing, right? On the ability for you to have enough amino acids to actually all assemble all this stuff. But when I started to geek out on vitamin D, and I've looked at it probably off and on over the last 20 years, but more recently, obviously, since COVID hit, it's like a, it's not really like a scavenger. It's more like vitamin D allows your immune system to go out and shred and rip apart and just completely destroy coronaviruses, okay? And there's a ton of research you can read about on pre-COVID coronaviruses. And there's some research now, like I cited from the British Medical Journal, on the current one that we're all facing. But obviously, you know, people have been studying D for very long time, but pre-COVID, and it's a pretty amazing. It's not sort of like a neutral, happy nutrient, you know? It's actually a hormone, believe it or not. It's a steroid hormone, which is why it's so effective against COVID, right? So, um, we call it a vitamin, but it's really a steroid hormone. That's a little weird, um, but it's, uh, as you would imagine, you know, because they're giving steroid hormones to people with COVID and having good outcomes with that, it's kind of in that genre. It's more like a medication than it is like a supplement. It has a very powerful effect, especially if you get yourself tested and you can dose yourself appropriately based on the lab. If you can't do that, you can't afford a lab, you don't want to talk to Jennifer, there's some reason why you have a mental block about doing a lab test, then I think around this kind of a program, the basic programs that I set up are safe to take and effective for people that don't want to do the testing.

All right, all right. So let me, um, mention once again, case you didn't hear this part. Jennifer is an amazing human being. Um, but let me, uh, answer a couple questions and then we'll wrap it up, okay?

So Karen is asking, if you're missing one, could you be fatigued or feel like you are swimming in peanut butter when moving? Yes. So I've had three, count them, three patients in the last week, three patients in the last week who are just low in lysine alone, just one stupid amino acid that was missing. And when we replaced it in all three of those patients, it was like plugging a lamp into an electrical socket that wasn't plugged in before. Remember, in order to string together proteins and make those beautiful ribbon structures that I showed you a moment ago, you need to have all the essential amino acids present. One amino acid missing is like driving a Porsche Turbo without the front left wheel. You can't drive it. It doesn't work. It won't go down the road, even a little bit. Uh, what are the patterns of amino acids, high or low, indicate? That's kind of complicated. Well, low amino acids mean you're low and you need to bring them up. High amino acids mean they're circulating in the bloodstream and you're not making them. And let's see. Oh, and John's going to continue contribute to the Porsche fund. Maybe I should start a fund so that I can have a decent car finally, you know? I'm kidding. I'm very happy with my five-year-old Audi. It's a nice car, gets me where I want to go, and I'm a happy person because of that.
