Welcome back to Mo Monday. Richard Wagle asked us a question on what's the difference between forward oil and reverse oil in an oil pattern when the oil is put down.
Well, first of all, that would be a Kegel machine because they are both ways. Now, forward oil is the oil that ends up at the back of the pattern. So, whatever you use it for, forward oil, the shape, the size of the loads, and the board to boards they do will give you the shape at the back of the pattern. The machine goes, does that, goes to the pin deck, comes back.
And on the reverse oil, you're going to find out what's going to be in the front. Now, the big thing on reverse oil is the volume of it. The more reverse oil you use, the longer the pattern is going to last before you have to start moving. So, when you're looking at oil patterns, forward oil will tell you the shape at the back of the pattern, whereas reverse oil will tell you how long the pattern is going to last before you have to move your feet.
Now, I like a ratio of about three-fifths oil on the forward and two-fifths on the reverse. That's my standard. Now, if I want a lane that I want to make sure the ball is really going to go along, then I might go 50/50. If I want to do a lane and make sure that the pattern is going to break down and everybody has to move, then I'm going to go 75% on the forward oil and 25 on the way back.
So, be looking at the forward oil and reverse oil. Forward oil gives you the shape at the back of the pattern. Reverse oil tells you exactly how long that pattern is going to last. So, from Mo at Mo Monday, that's how to understand an oil pattern day. Richard Wagle, thank you for that question. You will get a Mo Monday t-shirt.
