when you become too self aware

Perceiv2:58

Transcription

There's a strange moment that hits you after doing shadow work for a while. You're talking to someone and you think you're being honest. You're even saying things you never said out loud before. It sounds raw. It sounds true. But there's this slight hesitation in your voice. Not enough for them to notice, but enough for you to feel it. A tightening in your chest, a subtle bending of your truth just so it lands easier. It's not a lie, but it's not the whole truth either. You trim the edges. You remove the mess because deep down you're still afraid they might walk away if they saw you uncut.

See, this is the part of the journey no one prepares you for. You think once you become self-aware, you'll be free. But awareness isn't freedom. Awareness just shows you the cage. You still have to decide if you're going to walk out of it. And so you sit there editing yourself in real time. You say what's true enough, what's palatable, what doesn't risk too much, even when you think you're being brave. You're still managing perception because you don't want to be too much, too dark, too intense, too real. You want to be loved.

But that's the trick, isn't it? You can't be truly loved until someone sees the whole thing. Not just the side you've polished, not just the healed version, but the you that still doesn't have all the answers, the you that still feels shame, still feels rage, still flinches when touched too softly. And so the question becomes, are you willing to risk being misunderstood to be known? Because real honesty will cost you, not just people, but the image you built of yourself, the person you performed as to survive. That version dies when the truth comes through. But what's left in its place is someone you can finally look in the eye. No edits, no filters, just you. And maybe that's where real love starts.
