Test one, did you bring anything at all? Showing up empty-handed tells them you don't know the rules.
Test two, the price. Too expensive and you look like you're trying to buy your way in. Old money dislikes obvious displays of spending.
Test three, the wrapping. Thoughtful and simple always beats flashy. But here's the test most people fail and the one that matters most, the note. Did you write a personal handwritten note? Old money keeps the note long after the gift is gone. A few honest lines reveal character and thoughtfulness, something money can't buy and can't fake.
