Now, here's the key thing. When life becomes empty, people will take one extra step that will mess them up, which is life is empty forever, right? And that's what keeps us attached.
There was a period of time where you thought you would never love again. But then a couple years go by, you meet someone new, and oh, wow, I can love again. This is the cool thing.
The libidinal energy won't stay that way forever. It has a natural tendency to go and form attachments with things. But you have to get through that period. That's how you mourn. You give it up, and you don't just stop doing the behavior. That's the whole point to this lecture, is that stopping to do the behavior will leave you gray and sober. You have to accept that gray and sober is a way for life, and you have to accept it wholeheartedly.
