Peace be upon you. Today, I have a story for you. Honestly, it deserves someone to work hard to prepare it and tell it to you so that you can hear something about the wonders of this world.
An old woman named Hajja Saliha lives in a village. She is 80 years old and is very beloved by the people of the village. One day, at approximately eleven o’clock at night, Hajja Saliha began… She crawled from inside her house, crawling, crawling, crawling, until she managed to reach the threshold of the outer door of her house.
Then she tried to sit down and lean her head on the edge of the door. This old woman was covered in blood from which the people of the village were bleeding as they returned from a party where they had gathered, passing by the road that ran alongside Hajja Saliha’s house. They saw her sitting in a strange way. They went to her.
“Oh Hajja Saliha, what is wrong with you?” They called her. “What is wrong with you, Hajja Saliha?” She started pointing at them. “May God keep you. Help me.” She pointed inside the house, and they ran into the house.
They found her 55-year-old daughter, whose name is Fatima, unconscious on the ground, covered in blood, with a large stone on her. The stone had traces of blood on it, indicating that someone had hit them with this stone. This old woman, who is 80 years old, and her 55-year-old daughter, her daughter has no voice, meaning she is unconscious, and the house is in disarray.
Immediately, the people of the village informed the security authorities, and they were transferred to the hospital in the city, which is about 100 km away from them. They live in a remote village. The medical team tried to help this old lady, Saliha, and her daughter Fatima. They underwent several operations. They had fractures, internal bleeding, and other afflictions. They were beaten very brutally until they came out of it.
At dawn, Fatima died, and after her, Hajja Saliha died. The strange thing is that Hajja Saliha, when she was conscious in the first hours, when he asked for help and distress, and they tried to transfer her through this road, they were talking to her, “Oh Hajja, who hit you? Oh Hajja, speak.” She did not want to speak. She was unable to speak and died, and the secret was lost.
The security authorities immediately came to the village and began investigating the matter. They told the people of the village and the women they knew that they had a little girl who was 15 years old, named Aya. “Where is she?” They searched the house, searched the house, searched the house. There was no one.
What is the story? What is happening? I will tell you that we go back to the details from the beginning so that we can delve into the events. Hajja Saliha lives in a village called Bajah, and this Bajah is 100 meters away from the capital city of Tunis. Bajah is a city or state close to these mountains.
The people of this village are all united and cooperative with each other because they are far from the city. So any occasion that happens to them, everyone attends, men and women, and there is a strong relationship between them. They never have any problems, and everyone helps each other. They are people living in peace.
Hajja Saliha is well-known to them. Hajja Saliha lives alone and has a daughter. Her name is Fatima; she is married and lives in the capital, Tunis. Fatima has two daughters. A young man proposed to the eldest daughter, and she got married. God protected her, and she lives on her own.
The younger daughter’s name is Aya. She is 15 years old. Fatima’s husband died, and her responsibilities increased. She is unable to pay the rent or the expenses, and life has become difficult. With her suspicions that her mother, whenever she visits her in the village, complains to Hajja Saliha, she said to him, “My daughter, why don’t you and my granddaughter come and live with me? No rent or expenses. Where are the people here? They live simply, thank God.”
She said, “Mother, I have gotten used to the city.” And he said, “My daughter, it’s okay, now your situation is difficult. Why are you suffering in this world? Everything is easy for us here in this village.” She said to him, “Then it’s done.”
Indeed, Fatima and her daughter Aya moved to live with Hajja Saliha one day. This happened in 2018. There was a party in the village, a circumcision party. The people in this village wish for any occasion to gather and have fun because life is a bit monotonous and boring.
Between me and you, in the villages, people go to sleep at 5:00 PM. As soon as it gets dark, people go home to sleep. That means that few people have electricity, so life ends with the setting of the sun. They wake up at dawn to plant and harvest and tire themselves out until sunset and return home to sleep.
Whenever there was an occasion, they would have fun, enjoy themselves, gather, and chat with each other, relieving themselves for a while. So when this party happened, all the people of the village, men and women, went and participated in the party.
But Hajja Saliha, because she was a bit old and tired, did not go. Fatima, who is 55 years old, sat with her elderly mother and said, “I can't leave my mother and go to a party.” The little girl, who is like the girls, said, “I will go,” and she was getting the dress ready.
The girl went to the party, and I sat at home, except for Hajja Saliha and her daughter Fatima. Of course, the people attended the party, and the songs were in the beautiful Tunisian traditional style, and they were happy. Everyone was wearing their traditional clothes. It was a beautiful party.
The party ended at 11 o’clock. At night, everyone went home after they had dinner and enjoyed themselves. While they were leaving the party, they passed by the same road that was adjacent to Hajja Saliha’s house. Just as I told you at the beginning of the story, she was crawling until she reached the doorstep and sat down while she was bleeding.
They saw her and were shocked. “What’s wrong with you, Hajja?” They asked. She told them inside, meaning they were happy for the girl who was inside. When they entered, they saw his daughter lying on the ground between life and death. They saved them, meaning they took her to the hospital, but she died the next day, the next morning.
Now the security men are searching for the missing girl. Who is she? Who wasn’t there on the farm? Where is the crime? I went to ask them; they said we had a party, and she must have attended the party. They asked all the girls her age, her neighbors, her friends, and so on.
My friend said, “Yes, that’s right. We were actually getting ready for the party, what to wear, and so on.” We agreed that we would wear such-and-such clothes, but I just realized that I didn’t see anything at the party. They said, “Guys, does she have anything to do with the crime or not? Let's find out first. What could be the key to the puzzle? Who assaulted her grandmother and her mother?”
They asked and asked. No one saw anything at the party, and the villagers know each other. There was nothing, even if a stranger entered the village. It was the dogs who... It is located on the outskirts of the village, barking. This is a feature they have.
Dogs, if they see someone who is a stranger to the village, will start barking and barking and barking until the villagers notice. They will not bark at anyone from their own people, as they know that no stranger has entered the house, for example, the old woman and the girl are not there.
They said, “Let’s make sure.” They went to the owners. The party photographers videoed the party. They said yes, the photographers brought the video. They started watching the video, trying to figure out if the camera might have captured her while she was at the party or something, but she was never there.
They confirmed that the girl was missing; she was 15 years old, she was young. They turned the world upside down, the first day, the second day, the third day. Of course, they formed search teams to search the village and its surroundings, the mountains and valleys around it. They did not leave any trace.
On the third day, at the edge of the valley during the search, they heard a sharp groaning sound. They searched and searched, but there was no tree in the valley. There was a tree, and the girl was tied to it. In a state of distress, the girl was tired, exposed to beatings, hunger, and thirst. She had been tied up for three days.
She had been missing, or they would take her and fly her to the hospital. The story begins. It's getting worse now. The girl was admitted to the hospital, and they started treating her. She was really tired, hungry, thirsty, and a bit dehydrated. She had bruises and scratches on her hands and face, her hair was disheveled, and her clothes were torn.
Anyway, the first day, the second day, the security men said we have to respond. We have to know now the story. The scenario has happened. Who and what is her connection to the matter, and what did you see that brought her?
“Oh my dear, you heard the story.” She said, “Can you understand what happened? I was getting ready to go out, I put on the party clothes and stuff, and my mother said, ‘I can’t go, I’ll stay with your grandmother.’ I told her, ‘Okay, I’ll go,’ and my friends aren’t at the party. I went out of the door, and I was walking while I was going to the party place between the alleys and the houses and the lanes.
I noticed a group of young men who were at the edge of the party gathered and smoking and drinking, maybe hashish or something. I mean, they were gathered around each other, and I passed by them to enter the party, and they started harassing me, I mean with words and interrupting me with words, but I didn't pay attention, I didn't respond to them, and I went to the party.
I sat at the party for about an hour or two, and that was it. I decided to go back home because I left my mother and grandmother and so on. I had had enough and didn't want time to run out. I was going to go back on my own.
While I was leaving the party, I noticed the young men who had harassed me two hours earlier. There were eight of them. I noticed that they were waiting for me, and they called me. I was scared and started running because I was going in between the alleys and such, and I was scared. I started running to the house and entered.
I opened the door. It was locked, meaning it wasn’t closed. I opened the door and entered the house. As soon as I tried to close the door, one of the people rushed at me and pushed the door really hard and attacked me. The seven followed after that. I started screaming and screaming and resisting.
I am in the middle of the house now, in the courtyard, and I am screaming and so on, and my mother comes to my screams and tries to save me from the hands of this young man. The rest of the group attacked her and started beating her until she fainted. My grandmother intervened after she heard my mother and I screaming, and they also beat her until... I fell to the ground.
Then they tied me up and took me with them to the place where you found me. Five of them assaulted me. They assaulted me sexually and then they beat me until I passed out. They tied me to the tree and left me and walked. They expected me to die or for wild animals, wild dogs, or something else to gnaw at my body, but I began to resist. I resisted for three days until I was found.
Oh, poor thing, she saw disasters. She saw people killing her mother and grandmother and kidnapping her and taking her to the valley and assaulting her five times. In the end, they tied her up after they beat her. What is this brutality?
They said to her, “Oh, what?” These eight people, do you know them? She said, “Yes, I know them. I don’t know them personally, but I know that they are from the village. The strange thing is that four of them are my relatives.”
“Welcome. How are they your relatives?” She said, “They are my cousins, meaning from the same tribe or clan.” Great. Then she said, “And there is one…” He is known in this village, his name is so-and-so, and this is because he is known because he is a police officer, a police officer, and four of your cousins.
They go, and the eight young men who did not expect that he is still alive, especially this officer. How can you be an officer and cooperate with young men to kidnap a 15-year-old girl? And assault her and beat her? And you tie her to the tree and leave her alone in a valley for three days? What a despicable mentality you have.
Of course, the Tunisian press made a fuss about the matter. It turned the world upside down, and this officer ran her and ran her and her cousins. They didn’t leave anything behind or remain. After a few days, the forensic report came.
The forensic examination of the two bodies, the body of Hajja Saliha and the body of Fatima, said that they were killed by beating with the hand and also using the stone that was found at the crime scene, which caused bleeding in the victims’ heads.
The report that she subjected herself to, yes, the victim must always be subjected to an examination, right? It turned out that she had bruises and scratches, and she was in a bit of a bad condition. Exhaustion from thirst and hunger and so on, and traces of a rope, but the point is that the forensic medicine confirms that Aya was not raped.
How can that mean? She was not raped. They went and brought Aya a second time and investigated her. Yes, the most important thing is that she was raped. She said, “They raped me.” How could he rape you? That’s not true. The forensic medicine confirmed that you are not.
The rape took off her head and started crying. “What did you say? Confess it. Let’s finish.” She said the truth of the whole thing is that behind my kidnapping is my sister’s husband who lives in the capital, Tunis. He came that day and saw my grandmother and my mother and kidnapped me and took me to the place that I saw.
Of course, he assaulted me, but he did not rape me. My fear is… My sister was shocked by what her husband did, and in order to save my sister’s life, I tried to frame the case against a group of young men whom I knew because they were from the village. They never harassed me or anything. The officer wasn’t with them.
She said, “Not a single one of them.” This is my sister’s husband. May your home be destroyed, the press has turned upside down. How could her sister's husband do such and such? You despicable person, and the poor girl is scared and wants to cover up for her sister and does not want to destroy her sister and her family.
I mean, she accused a group of other young men, but she is a young and scared girl and was forced to say these words. She is scared for her poor sister. Of course, this is her thinking. Yes, they released the group of young men and went to arrest her sister’s husband.
You vile person, how could you do this? How could you assault your wife’s mother and her old mother and kidnap your wife’s brother? What kind of sick person are you? Of course, she told them that this was a long time ago when we were… We live in the city of Tunis.
He had his eye on me, and whenever my sister visited us, he would try to harass us wherever he went, trying to isolate us and so on. When we moved away and went to the village, he thought that one day he would come and kidnap me. He would say to me, “Let’s get married and leave this place and divorce your sister,” and so on.
I was telling him no until he committed this crime. Anyway, they brought this lowlife, this one who is in you and you are not in you. Speak up. He was shocked and astonished. I saw him, and thank God that on that day I was at work, and they asked my friends at work, and they asked friends or something like that, and it didn’t really happen.
The distance between the city and the village is 100 km and on rough roads, I mean, more than an hour and a half or two hours, and this person did not miss his work, even for five minutes. He has no employees, and the place is known, meaning cameras and troubles, and he has to go out early and enter early, meaning it is not chaos.
The one who saved him turned out to be a man who had nothing to do with it. There is nothing to prove the truth of what he said, especially, oh, this is her second story, and she lied in the first story. Why did they go back to her?
She said, “Come on, what’s your story? What’s wrong with you? We’ve been silent since today because you’re a young girl, 15 years old. We said we were afraid he’d break up, and you started accusing young men, and we brought him out and exposed the world. The press turned the world against us.
In the end, he turned out to be your sister’s husband, and now he’s your sister’s husband.” What's your story? You talk. She lowered her head. “By God, I mean, I'll confess to you frankly. No, by God, seriously. Now you want to confess. What have we been waiting for? Speak since morning.”
She said, “When I was in the city of Tunis, in the capital, I was living a comfortable, urban life. I would save up and go out and go. I came and saw the world, and of course, she is a girl, she is only 15 years old, but whoever sees her would say she is 25 from her eyes.
She runs as if she understands everything, and she is a girl, meaning she is not busy with the land, so she says I was shocked when I came to this village. There is no fun, no going out, no coming and going, and my mother is worried about me because we are still new in the village, and the village is known for being dark, meaning at 3:00 in the morning.
I am used to staying up late with my friends in the city until 3:00 in the morning, but the situation here has changed, especially since my grandmother, Saliha, is a strict, conservative woman, meaning she doesn’t take things lightly. By God, the girl goes out.
When you don't want to come back, you come back. No, for him, customs and traditions are above everything. She started preventing me from going out until when I told them that I wanted to attend the party, she said, “No, no, there is no party, my love. I am tired. I cannot go. Your mother will stay with me. You do not go by yourself and come back by yourself. Stay seated.”
Hani says that there was a heated argument between me and my grandmother, and frankly, I had had enough. I could not bear any more of this control and the strict instructions that were coming from my grandmother. So I got angry and upset and so on, and grabbed my grandmother and pushed her to the ground.
Because she was weak and tired, the poor thing fell and hit the ground. When she fell to the ground, her head hit hard on the ground. The old woman began to bleed and fainted. Her mother came and saw the painful sight and attacked her daughter. “How can you hit your grandmother?”
She said, “I no longer have a mind,” and I started hitting my mother, hitting her, hitting her. She turned around, and there was no stone, so she picked up the stone and threw it at my mother’s back while she was trying to help. Her old mother fell to the ground in pain.
I started picking up the stone and throwing it at her head. I picked it up again and threw it at another head. I picked it up a third time and threw it at my grandmother’s head until they stopped breathing. I couldn’t hear their voices.
In a moment of realization, I don’t know how I could have done something like this. The crime I said I have to see now, I mean, find me a plan to carry out, so I started to scatter the contents of the house to show that there were people who entered. I left the house and ran towards the valley and hid there.
She says after two days I started to feel hungry and thirsty, and I was afraid, and I didn’t know where to go, and I was afraid that someone would see. I found a rope and started to tie myself with it to make anyone who found me think that it was me. There were people who tied me up, and I wrapped myself around the tree and tore my clothes and tore my hair.
Of course, all of these wounds I had were from walking between these rocks and valleys. When the search teams started, I felt them. I started screaming until they found me, and I was transferred to the hospital, and that's the whole story.
I mean, there was no gang, and no one assaulted me and kidnapped me and raped me, nor my sister's husband, nor the officer, nor the neighbors, nor was I the one who killed my grandmother and killed my mother.
Of course, the grandmother didn't die, I mean, there was a soul left in her, and she started crawling and crawling until she reached the door and asked for help. I mean, they helped her and her daughter, but fate... He wrote them death by bleeding and fractures.
The important thing is that she was not tried for a long time, and in 2020, meaning two years after the crime, the court sentenced Aya to ten years in prison and to be placed in a juvenile prison because her age at the time of the crime was 15 years old on a charge called the murder of parents, a criminal charge of the murder of parents.
She killed her mother and grandmother, so the ruling was considered. She was given psychological treatment, and that was the end of our story. May God grant her peace.
