With help from the FBI, the Houston Police Department has begun to bring down a ring of criminals from South America, many of whom are not legally in this country. They are not legally present in this country. The FBI recovered as much as $4 million in stolen goods.
Now, you guys may remember celebrity athletes have had their houses broken into recently, the past couple years. Well, the FBI believes that this is the group that is responsible for those breakins. It's a highly sophisticated group. These people are professional thieves. They are professional criminals. And the FBI again with the Houston PD has brought this ring down. They've arrested the ring leader. They've arrested a bunch of people associated with it. And now it looks like it's going to go multi-state.
And again, we're talking about we imported these people. These people aren't most of them are not legally present in this country. It is a South American Chilean gang. And again, this is what the Democrats want to protect. They want to protect these people. Think about that. How ridiculous is that? But this FBI and this DHS, thank God, they're not laying down for this. And also, big kudos to the Houston Police Department for being on top of this. Don't mess with Texas.

>> And tonight, Houston police say they've captured one of the masterminds behind a South American burglary ring.
>> Police say the ring is responsible for more than 60 breakins across the Houston area and countless more around the country. ABC 13's Luke Jones joins us live with exclusive details. All new at 10. Luke.
>> Yeah, we learned Patricia Munoz was arrested last month along with his wife. Investigators say together they were calling the shots and even funding many of these breakins. Seven breakins in West University Place and more than 60 across the Houston area. Investigators say this man, Patriceio Munoz, was one of the major players behind the Chilean burglary ring responsible. January 28th, he and his wife Tanya Bar were arrested by HPD's Westside crime suppression team. Together, investigators say Munoz and Bar were funding and directing many of the breakins. Munoz allegedly selling these jamming devices to a separate Colombian burglary ring. They're used to disrupt home security systems.
>> They have multiple antennas and radios built into them.
>> Nigel Nielsen owns the IT firm Ideal Tech. He's familiar with the jamming devices illegal to own under federal law. It's sending out a really strong signal to overwhelm the signal of uh your security cameras, your alarm systems, your cell phones.
>> What about police radios? Could it interfere with that?
>> I would suspect so.
>> Westview police say they found a jamming device on this Chilean burglary suspect during a break-in last year. Altogether, Houston police say they've arrested 20 members of the burglary ring and recovered $4 million worth of stolen property. It's the same crime ring linked to break-ins at the homes of professional athletes in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Kansas. Munoz was previously charged to send us in Los Angeles for the 2022 breakin of then Congresswoman Karen Bass's home.

>> Mosoz and his wife were booked into the Harris County Jail last month on charges of tampering with government records. Moz allegedly caught with a fake Mexican passport and fraudulent car title. his wife, investigators say, had used a fake Argentinian ID to rent an apartment. Days later, Munoz was charged in connection with the October 4th breakin of a home in this gated Royal Oaks neighborhood. Investigators say he broken through a window after jumping a fence, then pried open a safe and stole four watches, each worth thousands of dollars. When police searched his apartment, they say they found watches, jewelry, and other pricey items. In this child's bedroom, pry bars and a jamming device. Potentially damning evidence in a series of crimes spanning across the Houston area and perhaps the country. Luke Jones, ABC13 Eyewitness News.
