Most people think Earth is calm. It isn't.

Right now, the planet is spinning at 1,670 km per hour at the equator. At the same time, it's orbiting the sun at 107,000 kmh. And the sun is dragging Earth through the Milky Way at 790,000 kmh. You are moving faster than any bullet ever fired while feeling absolutely nothing.

The sky isn't actually blue. Sunlight is white, but Earth's atmosphere scatters blue wavelengths in every direction. From space, the sky is black.

Earth's seasons have nothing to do with distance from the sun. They exist because Earth is tilted 23.5°. Tilt toward the sun, it's summer. Tilt away, winter begins.

Here's a quiet geometric coincidence. Earth sits about 108 sun diameters away from the sun and about 110 moon diameters away from the moon. That's why they appear almost the same size in the sky and why eclipses are even possible.

Earth's core is as hot as the surface of the sun, over 5,000° C. Yet, we live on a crust thinner than an apple's skin. And despite mountains and oceans, Earth is unbelievably smooth. Scaled down to a billyard ball, it would be smoother than one.

99% of all species that ever lived here are extinct. The planet erases its past without hesitation. And somehow, through speed, heat, tilt, and chaos, Earth stays stable enough for you to exist.
