You know, most often when we ask for blessings, we're thinking for things and stuff. But we rehearse the goodness of God even in the landscape that we're living in today. If we just rehearse His goodness, we can say without a shadow, without a doubt, Lord, You've been good to us. You've been a stream in the desert for us. You, you've been a cleft in the rock for us. You've been our Waymaker. You've been our Door Opener. You've been our Sustainer. You've been our Provider. You've been all I need. You've been all these things, and we give You praise tonight. You are good. You've been so good, Lord. You are good. You've been better than good. I can praise You.

We have come to remember and to celebrate the death, the burial, and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen. Let's give God some praise! Hallelujah! He is worthy of our praise. I am Reverend Carolyn Tatum, and I am so glad that you have decided to worship with us. Now, if you would grab your Bibles, we're going to read our scripture from First Corinthians chapter 11, verses 23 through 30. That's First Corinthians chapter 11, verses 23-30. And it reads: "For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.' In the same manner, He also took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.' For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who drinks or for he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep." Amen. We thank God for the word of God. Let us pray.
Father, in the name of Jesus, we adore You. We bless Your name. You are an awesome God. You are a mighty God. You are all-powerful, and we bless Your name, O God. We come asking that You would forgive us and cleanse us from all of our sins. Oh God, where we have missed the mark, we ask that You will forgive us. Oh God, and Lord, we thank You that even though we fall short, that You still love us. You still care for us, O God. We thank You, O God, for Your provision and Your protection in the midst of this pandemic. We thank You, O God, for Your faithfulness. We thank You, God, for making ways out of no way. We thank You, Lord God, for Your goodness and Your mercy. O God, we pray, O God, that You would bless this service on tonight. O God, that You would bless those that are hearing and worshiping with us, O God, all over the world. God, You know whatever they stand in need of. I pray that where encouragement is needed, that You would encourage. That You would strengthen, O God. Give us wisdom and discernment, O God. We pray for anyone that's sick in their bodies, that You would touch and that You would heal. That You would deliver, O God, in the name of Jesus. We pray for those who have lost loved ones, that You would comfort them like only You can. That You would be the God of all comfort, O God. We pray for families, for marriages, for children, O God. We pray, O God, that You would touch, Lord God, that You God would just make a way out of no way. And God, we ask that You bless leaders all over the world, O God. We pray for pastors. We ask that You would bless them in the name of Jesus. And we thank You for our pastor, O God. We ask that You would touch him right now, from the top of his head to the sole of his feet, O God. We pray that You use him in a mighty way to bring forth Your word on tonight, that he would preach with clarity, with wisdom, O God, with conviction, O God, that You would move in a mighty way, that somebody would ask, "What must I do to be saved?" on tonight. God, we just bless You, O God, for You are an awesome God. You are a mighty God. And we pray that the word that goes forth on tonight will touch and impact people all over the world. [Applause] [Music] My [Music] [Music] One of the things that makes me serve Jesus is that He's a promise-keeping God. He said in His word that He would never leave us. He would never forsake us. That He'd be with us always, even until the end of the age. Now, I don't know about anybody else. I've had some situations at about 11:59 o'clock when my back was against the wall. Jesus came in to rescue me. Hallelujah! Jesus! Anybody grateful because You're with me? Because You're with me? Because You're with me? I will not fear. Come on, let's sing it. Because [Music] I have no reason to fear. He's with me. You are my God. Come on, let's go somewhere tonight, my friends.

Sometimes the spirit of fear grabs you, and you become enslaved by a situation, enslaved by a mindset. The word of the Lord said to take this mind that was also in Christ Jesus. Let it be your mind, so that we don't have to be afraid. We don't have to be enslaved to foolishness and to sin that entraps us. Hallelujah! We get ready for the word, but I want to say this: I'm no longer a slave to fear.

We humble ourselves before You. We recognize that we stand in desperate need of You, Lord. Thank You that You've made us a child of God. We're no longer a slave to sin. You have made us Your children, and we thank You. We bless You. We pray today that You take these next few moments and speak to Your sons and daughters. For just this moment, Father, allow Your truth to prevail. Let us see what applies in our personal lives and how we can be all that You're calling for us to be. Thank You in the name of the Lord. I pray for unsaved, backslidden, unsure, uncommitted persons tonight. I pray for the believers that we would be strengthened and be all that You're calling us to be. In Jesus' name, give You praise and thanks ahead of time. In the Master's and wonderful name of the resurrected Savior, the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen and amen.
All right, praise the Lord! Thank you, praise and worship team, for leading us to the throne of God and just leading us into worship. All right, thank you for being with us tonight. Wherever you are, whoever you are, I'm grateful and honored for you being a part of our communion Sunday service tonight. And thank our leaders that are on our Zoom call tonight. Appreciate each one of you. Thank you for coming and your families. I appreciate it so very much. I'm not going to hold you long tonight. I want to talk. I want you to open your Bibles to John chapter 17. John, the Gospel of John, chapter 17. And I want to talk about, if I could put a tag on this message, it's the, is that, here's the subject: The Essence of Unity. The Essence of Unity. I thought I should talk about this because we're living in a very disunified culture. Our nation is, our nation is divided. Our country is divided. Black versus whites, Democrats versus Republicans, rich versus poor, the haves versus the have-nots. And who's happy about this division? Is the enemy. Satan is elated and ecstatic as long as he can keep us divided. And it's, uh, it's tragic. It's sad. It's problematic that, uh, our country lacks unity. Unity gives God glory. When we have unity, God gets glorified. When there is a level of unity, God moves in a supernatural way. And I, I think it's imperative and important for us to understand the, the power of being unified. I mean, uh, a lack of unity is the downfall and the Achilles' heel, uh, of a culture, of a church, of an organization, of a business, of a team. Um, I think the Cowboys might need some help here today. [Laughter] You know, I just had to throw that in there right there for just a second. They're not quite unified right now. They've got some problems going on, and it's a lack of unity. Um, I, I thought, I thought when I looked through scriptures, because I know this is true and it's powerful and it's profound, that God loves unity. I know that that's the heart of God. Psalm 133 says, "Behold, how good and how much of a blessing it is for men to be unified." God is honored, and God moves supernaturally when there's unity. And matter of fact, we can look through all the scriptures and see so many anointed things that God did because people were unified. When the choir got together, when they dedicated the temple in the Old Testament, the choir was on the same accord, and they began to sing, and they began to give God the glory. It was, it was a unity deal, and God, the Spirit of God came in and flowed in such an incredible way that the Bible says that the minister couldn't even minister because they were so, uh, they were such a place of unity that God flowed through and blessed them, and His power flowed. That because the people were unified. And when, when somebody, when there's no unity, a lack of unity reveals selfishness and independent spirit, pride, arrogance. It means somebody has come to the agenda with their own agenda. Somebody's come to the table with their own agenda, what they want. And, uh, that, that, that's a problem. Unity doesn't mean that everybody has to agree on everything. It doesn't mean that you have to agree. Uh, you don't, you don't have to always agree, but it means that you're not disagreeable. That's what it means. You, the choir can sing different, uh, parts, but they always have to be singing the same song. The band was playing different instruments, but they were at least all playing the same song. Unity flows when we have the same goal in mind, and we're marching to the same, to the beat of the same drum. That's, that's important and significant to God. And I, and I thought I should just spend a few moments. I won't hold you long because I want our, our community and our church in particular, and our leaders and our members to remain in a unified posture, even though we haven't seen each other in person for a while, even though we have not had that opportunity, we can still be unified. We can still be on the same accord, headed in the same direction. I, I want us to be, be mindful that the anointing of God flows, and God can still flow, and God can still move, and God can still do the supernatural if we stay unified. If we stay on the same accord. That's what I love about our, our church. We are a, we're, you know, we're a unified church. We, we have very little conflict and challenges, very few disagreements. Uh, and I'm, and I believe it's what, that's one of the reasons God's favor has flowed upon our ministry and upon our church is because we're unified. We're, we're marching to this, to the, to the beat together and headed in the same direction, and God's favor stays upon us. And everybody pushes their own agenda to the side, their own desires and wishes, and everybody says, "We're going to march to the same beat and do the same thing." And I, I want to applaud the First Baptist Church of Glenard and their leaders for staying unified. God is worthy to be praised for that, and I give Him the glory. But, but, but unity, brothers and sisters, is such an important and significant thing to God. And the Christ that when Jesus was facing crucifixion, in John chapter 17, He prayed. And through several sections of this prayer of John 17, He prayed that the, that the church would be unified. He said, "I want the believers to be unified." And I think that's a significant piece that out of all the things He could have prayed, He could have prayed that we would be mighty orators. So, He could have prayed that, you know, we could, uh, perform great miracles. Uh, He, He could have prayed a lot, a lot of things, but that's not the, the basis of what He prayed, or what is, what is the essence of what He prayed. Is He said, "Make them one." Make them one. That's what He prayed over and over again, on at least four separate occasions in this prayer. That's what He uttered to His Father. He kept saying to the Lord, "It's important that they get unified." And I, I want us to keep that in the, in the forefront of our agenda, that we are a unified community. Uh, so, in chapter 17, let's look at the, here's my first point I want to make: is He prayed in verse 11. He says, "Look at verse 11 of chapter 17." He says, "Now I am no longer in the world, but these, meaning us, are in the world, and I come to You, Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are." That they may be one as We are. He says, "In the same way that We are one, make them one." So, that's my first point today: is that Jesus and His Father model unity for us. They model unity. They, they are an example of unity. And what I love about it, Jesus is, "I didn't come here to do my agenda. It's not my will that I want done." He says, "I came to do what My Father wanted done. I came, I, I say the things that He told me to say. I'm not preaching my own sermon." He says, "I'm preaching the sermon He told me to preach. I'm walking down the agenda of what He told me to say. I'm not about my own deal, on my own agenda." Uh, and so He says, He says, "Make them one like We are." They, they are a model for us. That He says, "I want you to, I want you to model that." And I believe that's what God is, the Lord Jesus is praying for us, is that the disciples can be kept unified. I like what Joshua and the children, Joshua became the leader of the children of Israel. Moses had passed off the scene. You read in the first chapter of Joshua, the leaders said to Joshua, "As we have followed Moses, we're going to follow you." And what I like about what they said, they said, "Read this in the latter part of the chapter, anybody who doesn't follow you, anybody who disagrees with your direction, anybody who creates tension, we're going to go ahead and take them out." I like those kind of leaders. That's the kind of leaders I like. They say, "We're going to just, we're going to get rid of them. We will, we will take them out." In other words, here's what they're saying: "We're not going to let anybody come into our arena and mess up the unity that God has given to us, because we know how important and how sacred and how anointing and how important it is. We're not going to let anybody come in and create havoc. We're going to, we're going to take them out." And so, so, so that's our prayer. Jesus prayed, and He, He said, "Let them be one," talking about us. Let us be what has He and His Father one? That's point one, that they are a model for us in, in unity. Here's number two: is in slide down to verse 21. Verse 21. It says, "Let me read verse 20 and 21." Let me just go ahead and read verse 20 and 21. It says, "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You Father are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, even that You sent Me." Let me read that again. That latter part, verse 21: "that they may, that they all may be one." As You are in Me, that they also may be one in Us. I want you to see that, "in Us." And what that tells us is, is being in Them, being in the Father and in the Son, is what brings unity. This is one of the significant things. Is you've got to be in Christ and in His Father. You got to be sold out to Him and totally committed to Him. And He says, "I'm praying that they can have unity because they are in Us." And my question today is, are you in Christ? And is Christ in you? And are you in the Father? Are you sold out and committed to being in Him? And They in You? Are you in the, are you in the Father? And are you in the Son? You see, we got a lot of people who are good at being in church, but there's a difference between being in God and being in church. Everybody in church ain't in God. Y'all ain't near what I'm saying. Just because you go to church, just because you've been baptized, just because you are a member, does not mean that you're in Christ. I wish that was the truth in the case, but it's not. Everybody is, is, is, is not always in the Father and in the Son. And the essence and the key of, of creating unity is being in the Lord, being sold out to Him and committed to Him. And I love that point, and that's the prayer of Jesus of what He prays. He says, "Let them, Father, be in Us. Let them, just like We are, just like the Father is in the Son and the Son is in the Father, let them be one in Us." That oneness and that unity comes from us together being in Him. Here's number three. I told you I wouldn't keep you long. It's in verse 22. He says, "And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one." The glory that which You have, and the glory which You gave Me, I have given them, that they may be one, just as We are one. Now, here's what that means. That means that Christ gives glory to help bring unity. He gives glory. Now, what does that word "glory" mean? That word "glory" means God gives you a reputation. He gives you value. He gives you honor. You see, God puts it in a place and gives us a reputation. That's also, also what it means. He gives you, uh, let people have good opinions about you and gives, gives value to who you are and honor. And God says, "I'm giving that to you. I'm giving you this glory so that you can create unity for My kingdom." It's not about your name, your reputation, your business, your, ain't about that. It's about His kingdom and about His name being exalted. And He says, "I'm going to do this. I'm going to give you glory because I'm trusting that you're going to use it for His glory. I'm going to give you glory because you're going to use it for unity." And I believe that's what honors the Lord. I believe that's what elevates Him. God gives us glory so that we can use it to bring unity to the kingdom of God, so we can usher in this unity that we know God moves when there's unity. We know that that's repeated over and over and over again. Paul and Silas were in jail. They were locked up in jail, and the Bible says at midnight, they started singing, and they were singing the same song, on the same accord, and then an earthquake took place, and they got, they got freed from their imprisonment because two people got unified in the same place, and everybody else got freedom because of what these two, what Paul and Silas did in jail. In other words, God says, "I'm gonna give, I'm gonna do something special for you and give you some glory, and I want you to use that glory to create unity." Now, this is what everybody's gotta ask themselves: Am I using the respect and the honor and the reputation and the good opinions that people have about me? Am I using it for the sake of the kingdom, or are you using it for your own agenda? Go ahead and take a, take a moment and examine your own self. Am I, am I trying to? Let me tell you something. I come around a lot of people, and I see a lot of folk. It ain't about this. It's not about the kingdom. It's about their own agenda. It's about them making money. It's about them creating their own businesses. It's about them elevating themselves. And God says, "That's problematic for My kingdom." I, it's got to be about Him. It's about, it's about elevating His name. And I believe when your agenda elevates His agenda, then He will make, make you successful. He will prosper you. He will give you victory. When you elevate His name, and it's all about Him, then I believe God will bring victory in your house. Here's my fourth and final point, and I'll get out of here. I told you I wouldn't keep you long. Just a few moments. Not only does He model it for us, not only, uh, being in Him brings unity, not only does He give you glory to bring unity, I want to read verse 23. And here's what it says. It says, "I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me." Here's what I want you to see. See and get that, "that they may be made perfect in one." That they may be made perfect. Unity helps usher us into perfection. Unity, when we get unified, it helps bring us to a posture of perfection. Now, pastor, what do you mean, "to make us perfect"? No, I don't mean it means you're without sin. That word "perfect" doesn't mean that you are perfect. It means you are complete. That's what that word means. That word "perfect," the Greek definition means you have been, you, you have, you have finished your course. It means it brings you to a place of, of, uh, getting fulfilled and being fulfilled and fulfilling what it is God wants you to do. Now, hey, a lot of people keep asking me, "How do I discover what my purpose is? And how do I find out what it is God wants me to do?" And, and I believe this sheds some light, some, some light on it, because I believe He is saying that when you get unified, when you get in unity with the kingdom of God and with the people of God and with the church of God, it brings a level of maturity or completion to you. God says, "I want to bring you to a place of, of, uh, bringing to conclusion what your assignment is." He doesn't want you wandering around for years and years and years and never achieve what it is that God has for you to do. He doesn't want you to just, uh, be out there and never come to the end of what it is He's called for you to do. Now, here I am, 62 years old. I've been preaching for 40 plus years, and I'm, I don't want to just be wandering around, but I, I do sense and know that I'm doing what it is God wants me to do, and I believe I am coming to the conclusion of my assignment. I believe I'm setting it up. I'm about to hand off. I'm trying to get ready in the next few years to complete what it is God has given to my hands to do. Amen. I love y'all, but I ain't, I ain't trying to stay up in here coming up in the pulpit on a cane. I'm not trying to be wheeled up in here. I'm not trying to do that. I'm trying to finish what it is He's given to my hands to do and pass it off, and y'all carry it off and reach the next generation, because I, I recognize I don't, I'm not smooth like the, I can't reach the young people. I don't, I don't, I don't know the language. I don't know just, I don't know how to reach them. I can't sing their songs. I can't do that thing. Ain't trying to. I have reached. I want to reach all those that God has for me to reach, and when I get to the end of my journey, I want to pass it off. Hopefully, you want to do the same. I, the last thing I want to do is stay in my seat too long. Y'all haven't met somebody that stays in their seat too long? Time for them to move on, and they still holding on. That's the last thing I want to do. I don't want to do that. Amen. Uh, uh, I, I got a few more. I got, let, I hope they didn't, they hit it, Dan, talking to me. I still got a few more years. I still got a few more years, and I'm not trying to, I'm not, don't rush me off. I am saying, no, that when I leave here, I want to be complete. I want to have completed everything He has put to my hands to do. I want to be able to say, "I have reached the destination. I have made it to where He wants me to, to be, and what He wants me to do." How about you? Have you walked in unity, or have you been, have you been a thorn in somebody's flesh? Have you created drama for the leader of your ministry? Have you, have you been stressing people out, or have you, in fact, done what it is that's necessary that needs to be done to create unity? Ask yourself, "Am I a unifier, or am I a divider?" Which one are you? Ask God, "What am I doing? Am I doing my part? Am I going in my direction? Am I doing the things that God wants me to do?" The essence of unity, the essence of what God has called us to do, is to follow the model that the Father and the Son set for us. What we are called to do is to, to be in Them. To be able to bring unity to our kingdom, and to our church, to our ministry. And we are called and have the assignment that God gives us a reputation, it gives us honor, and gives us, uh, good opinions that people think about us and respect us, and we're to use that influence to help bring about unity in the kingdom. And finally, when you do that, God will help you complete the journey that He's assigned for your hands to do. Now, let me close this dynamic word with an encouragement to you. Jesus came and did what the Father told Him to do. He completed the assignment. And my job and my responsibility is to, to, to thank Him for completing the assignment of our sins being able to be washed away. I'm grateful that He did what needed to be done for us to have a relationship with God. That's why He died on the cross, so that we could have eternal life. And if you don't have eternal life, I want to encourage you to just call that number or send us an email or hit the commit button, and you can meet the Lord Jesus. If you are a divider instead of a unifier, that's what God wants you to do. If you're not sure of your eternal status, if you're a bachelor and want to rededicate your life to the Lord Jesus, He loves you and died on the cross so that you could have eternal life. I want to encourage you to make the decision to come and say yes to Him. Now would be the moment. Now be the perfect time. Don't put it off. Maybe you feel disconnected from unity. Maybe you feel on the outside looking in. My assignment to say it said the Lord God Almighty, the Lord Jesus says His arm stretched out wide, appealing for you to come into the household of faith. You can be in the unity of believers. It's the call that He calls for you to do. Let me pray for you.
Father, in Jesus' name, I intercede and pray for those watching today, and whatever it is that You want them to achieve and accomplish in life, that You would help them fulfill the mandate that You have assigned to their hands to do. And so, Father, I pray now for You to draw such as should be saved, draw such as should rededicate, draw those, God, who have, who have a doubt about their eternal status, draw those whom You've called to be connected with this household of faith, and cause them to come and say yes to Your will. In Jesus' precious name, we pray. Amen.

I want to thank our praise and worship team for leading us in that selection. Now we're going to prepare to go into our communion service. Hopefully, you have your elements prepared. And it is a special and sacred time for us to remember the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross, what He did for our redemption. This is what this communion service is set aside for. I believe every believer should be regularly participating in remembering the price that Jesus paid. Jesus, as often as you do this, you do it in remembrance of Me. And so, we're going to do that today. And we always begin ours by the reaffirmation of our church covenant. So, we're going to prepare our hearts right now to go through and reaffirm our church covenant together.
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ. We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; and to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating and behavior-altering substances for recreational purposes; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior. We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy, feeling, and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay. We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's word. And now, unto Him who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, be power and glory forever. Amen.
Praise the Lord! Amen. That is our church covenant. We're going to prepare our hearts now to receive the elements. I'm going to ask God's blessings upon this bread and fruit of the vine, as well as upon our hearts, your heart and mind. Let's pray.
Father, we thank You for this wonderful opportunity to remember the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. We're grateful that we're remembering the price He paid on the cross that we could have a personal relationship with the Father. And we thank You so much for making this possible for us. We come today consecrating and dedicating this bread and this fruit of the vine, but even more so, Father, dedicating our own hearts and examining our own hearts. And we pray in the precious name of the Lord that we would be able and appropriate for each of us to examine ourselves and thus partake of this communion. Let us examine our relationship with You and our relationship with each other. In the name of Jesus, we dedicate this moment to You. In Jesus' name, amen.
