So, I'm back at this weirdo's house. Same guy I did the vacuum plug for a while back. And now he wants a doorbell. I'm not really sure why he called me back after I trashed him in the last video, but maybe he didn't see it.
And in typical this guy fashion, he insisted that there was a conduit already ready to go for the doorbell. But he was right. It was there. But does the pipe actually go anywhere? Thankfully, it did. It was just beneath it in the basement.
I had to revisit his insane commercial looking electrical room because he wants everything to run back to his PLC cabinet. And for some insane reason, he wants me to run 1in pipe at least half the distance because he said he's going to use it for other things as well. So, that's what I'm doing.
Believe it or not, this is just a regular residential house. So, I thought for sure he was hiding a secret server farm down here or something. But, uh, unless he's got a second basement, it's just a regular house upstairs. is only about 2,000 ft². Clearly, there's something wrong with this guy's brain.
There isn't a single foot of Romax in this house. I mean, why would you wire an entire house with EMT? It's just a mental illness. But you know what they say, the customer's always right, even if he has lost the script.
So, I got his extra two 1-in pipes run halfway down the basement. I hope he uses these for something useful. And then I hit a junction box where it will branch off to the two chimes and the doorbell button itself. The downstairs chime is going right next to the PLC cabinet, so that was easy. And yes, he made me run an equipment grounding conductor even though it's EMT. Doesn't really surprise me.
Also, I couldn't really complain too much about the materials because he provided all of them just like last time. The other chime is going above the basement door. Same deal. All in 14 gauge stranded heat shrink labels, crimp terminals. Everything is fully piped in, even the chimes themselves. Just insane. At least now we can rest easy. knowing this 24V doorbell won't burn his house down.
Once I finished running all my tubing, I was able to start pulling some wire. He had some interesting color codes for how he wanted things done, but not very surprising. The doorbell button itself was in purple because it was actually a 24volt DC input to his PLC. Had to make that custom plate to mount it, but it's looking pretty good.
And then for the AC, I brought a regular transformer, but of course he had this fancy drail mount one, but each chime is actually on its own relay. He actually let me film some of the programming he did for his PLC and his HMI. Yes, he has an HMI, too. And yes, he's going to be able to control a doorbell with it, but whatever. Let's see if it actually works. It's almost like a smart doorbell, but really stupid.
Well, at least it actually works. I kind of hope this guy doesn't call me back. See you on the next.
