Chapter 17: Some Really Short Shorts

Story Two: Dave Ellefson

I had been having a not-so-great week. One week, and everything around me seemed to be dying, falling deeply apart. Like things I was trying to grow: a friendship, an opportunity, my daughter's health, my washing machine, my finances, and on and on. I was sitting in contemplation and then decided to write to a friend. What I was relaying was: it felt like a mega-death was happening to me. I couldn't explain it, but everything was slowly dying, it seemed. I was in a frightening megadeath. But it became another example of: whatever you focus on does come to you. We need to be mindful of what we focus on, making sure it is positive and uplifting, if possible. Even careful as to the words we use.

That very week, I got a text from a man who owns a recording studio about 10 minutes away from my house, out in the boondocks. It is an apparently well-known and respected studio, and I didn't even know it was there, as I had been out of the music loop for quite some time. He asked if I could do some bodywork on someone who was recording with him later that night, who had a really painful neck issue, and wondered if I could help him. I said, "For sure, please send them on over to the wellness retreat." He said it was Dave Ellefson. I gave directions and got the massage room ready. When he came, we had a wonderful conversation for a while—something I like to do with my clients so they will know what I do and who I am and how I work. Then I can find out what their challenges are as well, so that I can best help them: mind, body, and spirit, and request, if requested.

Considering the fact that I hadn't been into rock music or heavy metal for many years, and especially really hard rock, I was quite astounded to find that Dave was from the group called Megadeth. What my week felt like—a mega-death—I had even declared it to someone. I had brought it right to my door. I was thinking about Megadeth all around me, and here it was: Dave from the group Megadeth. I am laughing because I know it was a wonderful coincidence. Well, I meant that there are no coincidences, but certainly what we focus on, we bring to us. We dial it right in. I can say Dave was the most superb being I had spoken with for a while. He was kind, kind, and we spoke of matters of the divine and our spiritual perspectives, sharing for quite a while, actually. He talked about who he used to be so many years earlier in his wild rock music career and who he was now, and I sensed his ability to actually minister to me.

After almost two hours of talking and working on his physical issues, we parted, and he fled back into the darkness. He scooted down my mile-long woodlands driveway and back towards his abode for this rainy night. I did not see him again, but I smile every time I think of how this all works: how wonderful people are, how enriched I felt by him, and how people just show up for me like miracles. And hopefully, I also show up for them. He popped in and out of the blue to remind me to keep the faith, as I felt it getting very thin at that time. I somehow needed his special inspiration. I believe this symbiosis is the fabric of our whole lives, and this we can smile at and be amazingly sure of. I thank my angel beings who are always watching me.
