Your Porsche came packed with features so deeply buried in menus, steering wheel controls, and driving dynamic systems that even long-time owners have absolutely no idea they exist. The dealer shook your hand, handed you the keys, and gave you a 20-minute orientation, 19 minutes of which was paperwork.

Today, we are going through 10 secret Porsche features that almost nobody knows about, and every single one of them is already sitting in your car right now. So, which one is going to blow your mind first?

Feature 10, the sports exhaust secret sound mode. The crackles only come in sport. The Porsche sports exhaust is one of the most popular options across the entire range. Owners spend anywhere from 3 to $4,000 on it. Press the PSE button on the center console and expect to hear the full symphony. Here is what almost none of them realize. The crackles, pops, and burbles that define the PSE experience are only unlocked in one specific mode, and it is not the one you would expect. That mode is sport, not sport plus, not individual, sport.

In sport plus, the engine management is tuned for maximum performance and efficiency, which means combustion events are clean and sharp, not theatrical. Switch back to sport mode, or on PDK models, manually select gears while in sport, and the exhaust comes alive with a snapping and popping on deceleration that makes people stop and turn around on the street. The engineering behind this is genuinely clever. In sport mode, the butterfly valve in the exhaust diverts gases through a less [music] dampened chamber, producing a louder and more characterful tone. Here is the simple version of what is actually going on.

When you turn into a corner, Porsche Torque Vectoring gently brakes the inside rear wheel just slightly, almost imperceptibly. That asymmetric braking creates a torque difference between the two rear wheels, and more drive torque is automatically sent to the outside wheel, which has better grip. The result is that the car rotates into the corner more eagerly, with less understeer, responding to the steering wheel with a precision that feels almost telepathic. When you accelerate out of the corner, the rear differential lock engages, preventing wheel spin on the inside wheel and pushing maximum torque to the outside for a clean, planted exit.

The difference between Porsche Torque Vectoring and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus comes down to how the differential lock operates. Porsche Torque Vectoring uses a mechanical limited slip differential, which is found on manual gearbox 911 models, Boxsters, and Caymans.
