What is going on, guys? My name is Paul. I go by the Philly Flipper. I recently, in the last year, quit selling on eBay full-time and started selling on Whatnot full-time. And in the first four months of 2025, I made over $125,000 selling on the platform.
A little backstory about me if you guys are coming in for the first time. Uh, I go by affiliate flipper on here, even though I live in Florida. My name is Ali. I started reselling and started YouTube back in 2019. I went full-time reselling in 2021 because, um, COVID shut down my moving business that I had at that time. I moved to Florida in 2023. Started selling on Whatnot end of 2023, beginning of 2024. Um, Black Friday is when I had my first big show, kind of when I took Whatnot seriously. Um, and then end of 2024, October 2024, um, that's when, uh, Hurricane Milton came through Florida. That's when I quit listing on eBay fully and started selling on Whatnot fully.
So, I've been selling on Whatnot fully for October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and this is May. So, now it's 8 months in on full-time selling on Whatnot. And I am here to show you guys that it is a reliable way to sell and to make a living. Um, if it's your first time here, most of the videos on the channel are going to be garage sale videos, picking videos where you go see me buy stuff at different sales for Whatnot, but I source on other places as well. And, uh, I've been, a lot of people from my Whatnot have been finding my YouTube and have been asking me to make tips and tricks and kind of other videos on here to help grow, um, how to help grow Whatnot. So I decided to start putting Whatnot content on here as well. This is going to be my first video. I have other videos planned. I think I'm going to do day-in-the-life kind of stuff showing you guys what I do as a full-time reseller. But right now, just do a little intro breaking down on how it's possible, uh, to make that kind of money, how my life has changed, what is easier, what is harder, uh, than eBay, and, and all that.
So, first of all, if you want to make live selling, I'm not saying you have to do Whatnot. I do think Whatnot is the best platform out there for live selling. But if you want to do live selling and you want to go to Poshmark Live Sale or Jambo Live Sale or want any of the other marketplaces out there and you want to live sell, they have a completely different mentality than live than selling on eBay. And if you do not snap yourself into the different mentality, you will not be successful. And the mentality I'm talking about is the the shackles of, "I could get more for this on this platform." That is the mentality that was stopping me for a long time from listing and going live selling. It's like, "Oh man, I could bring, I don't know, I just have a comic book here. So, oh man, I could bring this to Whatnot, maybe get a couple bucks for it, but if I list it on eBay, I'll get $20 for it." Right? And the, the big word there is "if." And that was not just stopping me from bringing it to Whatnot, but that "if" usually never happened on eBay, and my death pile just kept growing and growing and growing and growing because I was buying so much. And there's just so much you can list today on other platforms and still have a life, right?
So, what made me grow faster on Whatnot? I'm almost at 40,000 followers on there. Is I stopped that mentality. And instead of saying, "Oh, I could, I could bring this to this place and get so and so for it," I just said, "Hey, I'm going to bring it to Whatnot, and whatever it sells for, it sells for. It's in my hand. It's out of my hands. It's out the door. I don't have to think about that item anymore." And the big thing there is I, in the past, thought I was taking a loss. Again, let's say use this comic book for an example. Let's say I paid a dollar for this comic book. I brought it to Whatnot. I sold it at $5. If I listed it on eBay, I could have got $10. In the past, my thought process was I lost $5 because if I lost, if I sold it on eBay, I would have made $5 more. But now, my thought process is I bought it for one, I sold it for five the same day. Instead of me losing $5 on it, I made $4. And that mentality is the mentality you want when you are doing live selling and you are selling at volume and you, uh, want the stuff gone. And my profit margin calculator in my head changed completely. Before I was like, I'm not picking this item up unless I get 10x for it because I have to take pictures. I have to list it. I have to wait for it to sell. I have to pay all the eBay fees. If I'm paying $2 for it, this thing better sell for $20 or I'm not buying it right now. My mentality is if I get 3x for it, I'm happy. If I'm paying $2 for it and I bring it to Whatnot and sell for $6, I made $4 with limited work. If I pay $10 for it and it sold for $30, I made $20 on that item, limited work. That is kind of been my my mentality now. And that's kind of what helped me get to the point of of of where I am.
The second big change that that happens when you live sell is you got to think about the quantity, not so much the quality. You still mix in quality with the quantity, but I sell right now on Whatnot about a thousand items a week. It is very hard for me to bring a thousand banger items a week, right? A thousand PS5s or PS4s or gold bars or 925 rings. I do mix that in with my shows. There is gaming consoles, there is gold, there is silver, there is jewelry, there is Pokemon that is mixed in, but I am doing the quantity work. So I have to personally find ways to bring a thousand items every single week to Whatnot. So I have to, uh, change my approach to sourcing. I couldn't just do garage sales and yard sales anymore because I was buying maybe 100 items a weekend. Now I have to find different avenues to buy to source from storage units, auction houses. I do a lot of estate sale buyouts. I made a lot of connections here with people that buy storage units and I buy from them directly. I have connections for plush, for fabric, for jewelry, all these things. You will, I will talk about more more about that in my day-in-the-life videos that are coming up in here. But you have to change your approach to sourcing when it comes if you want to have success from here.
And the third thing is you got to prepare to be to work hard. It's just as simple as that. A lot of people come to my morning shows on Whatnot and do these Q&As and say, "Paul, I tried three shows and it's not working out. I'm going to quit. I tried five shows. This didn't work out well. I'm, I'm done with this app." You have to put in the work. I personally go live on Whatnot 10 to 14 times a week. There's only seven days a week and I do about 10 to 14 live shows a week. None of them are all selling. Some of them are just pop-ups to rating to somebody. Some of them are preview videos. Some of them are selling videos. Some of them are Q&A videos. There's all, um, all all different types and sorts of lives, but I personally go live 10 to 14 times probably a week. That's a lot of work. It's a lot of work. And then like I told you guys before, I sell about a thousand items a week. 1,000 items a week is what I typically sell on a good week when I'm working here. And you will see that in my day-to-day life videos coming up. It's a lot of packages that have to be shipped out. It's a lot of bubble wrap. It's a lot of paper. It's a lot of boxes.
But as you guys see, uh, in the beginning, it's been my most profitable four months ever. Um, I want to break down the numbers a little bit here or whatever. But as you see, in the first four months, January, February, March, and April, I made $125,688 in sales. Now, to break it down, I'm going to be doing a fee video later on on YouTube, so you guys see exactly what the fees are, but just to make it easier, uh, for this video, I'm going to say what takes about a 15% fee for it. Whatnot takes about 11% plus 30 cents per transaction, but just to make it easier for this video, we'll do 15%. So do 125,800 times .15. So out of that $125,000, say $19,000 worth of fees. So 125,800 minus $19,000. So now I'm left with about $106,800. Profit $16,000 pretty much after that.
Um, big, big question, uh, what people ask me is what I spend every week on acquiring those items. And I usually spend about $1,000 to $1,500 a week sourcing. Uh, the numbers have been going up recently just because I've been buying a lot more to sell more. So let's just go with, um, even $1,200 a week that I spend sourcing. So that's four months, four weeks. So that's 16, uh, 16 times $1,200 is what I spent sourcing. It's another $19,000. It's about $87,000 now that's left in my pocket after that. Top of that, I have fees to pay for, uh, my employee. I have to do a part-time employee that I pay. Have fees to pay for, uh, shipping supplies and, and, and other things. Fees to pay for promotion. I do promote myself on, on Whatnot, just do. So, I'm just going to bring that down to about $78,000. So, after all said and done, I made about $80,000 profit in four months. So, that's about $20,000 a month. That is some good money. When I was doing full-time eBay, I wasn't making $20,000 a month. That my 90-day looked really good. My 90-day was really high, but 90-day is so deceiving on, on eBay because your 90-day shows you what, um, 90 days is including the shipping price. 90-day is including, uh, your fees and all that stuff. So you could have like a $50,000 90-day, but out of that $50,000 you could only be making $25,000 in 90 days. And then you got to subtract your cost of goods and everything else from that money, right? So even on my best eBay months, I was never making $20,000 profit.
Whatnot completely changed my life. This reselling platform completely changed my life. That's why I'm putting so much more effort and attention into growing this. And, um, I'm going to take you guys along with me for this journey. In future videos, you guys are going to be seeing, um, day-in-the-life kind of stuff. I'm going to teach you guys, show you guys what I do as a full-time Whatnot seller. Don't worry if you guys like picking videos. Those are not going away. I'm still going to be putting picking videos on the channel as well. But I want to do incorporate more Whatnot content. So that if you guys sitting at home, you guys are on the fence and you guys are listening right now, taking pictures. You're like, man, this is getting boring. This is getting hard. This is, eBay is not getting any sales. Uh, maybe doing this will encourage you to to come on.
So if you actually want to try Whatnot, I'm going to have two links down below. Uh, this is not a sponsored ad by anything. Whatnot does not pay me to to do this video. Uh, but I will have two links down below. I'm going to have a link for you to try it and see if you like it as as a buyer. I will link there. Then if you like it and you want to try to sell, I have a link there. If you use my link to apply, uh, because I am a a featured Whatnot seller, usually anybody that uses my link to apply, they're guaranteed to come in. So, if you want to be a guaranteed slot to to to, um, to sell, use the selling link. I'll post them both down below. And, uh, hopefully I will see you on the platform.
Um, I didn't go sourcing this week. So, if you guys are watching and waiting for a sourcing video, I didn't go sourcing this week because I was in Philly the whole weekend. So, I will be posting Whatnot content this week, but later on, uh, later next week, we'll get back to more sourcing videos. So, don't worry about that. But hopefully, um, you guys will come along with this Whatnot journey with me. And, uh, if you guys want to learn more about it, just stay tuned for future videos. Uh, if you have any questions or you want me to make, if you want me to make a certain video based on a certain topic, let me know. I will more than be more than happy to do a video based on that.
