I am Joaquin, lost in a world of confusion, caught up in the world of a gringo society. I am the masses of my people, and I refuse to be absorbed. I am [ __ ] during the nineteen sixties, seventies. Rudolfo Gonzalez, also known as Corky, greatly impacted the Chicano community in Colorado and throughout the United States. Recognizing the tragedy of discrimination, injustice, and brutality against Mexican Americans, he founded the Crusade for Justice during his activism. Proud Chicanos emerged triumphant. His contributions as a community organizer, political activist, civil rights advocate, and writer helped inspire change and create a new spirit of Chicano pride, unity, and triumph.
The Mexican Revolution started as the Mexican people protested the dictatorship of President Porfirio Diaz, who stayed in office for 31 years. Under her dictatorship, the economy was controlled by a few wealthy people. Poor people had no political power. Injustice was everywhere. During this time, a new generation of young leaders wanted to participate in the political life of their country. They were denied the opportunity by the officials who were already in power and who were not about to give it up. She has political and economic resources allowed him to stay in power. One of the things that migrated during this time was the family of Corky Gonzales. His father migrated to Colorado early in his life, while his mother was born in southern Colorado. But also, Gonzales, also known as Corky, was the youngest of eight children, born on June 8, 1928, the son of migrant sugar beet farmers. Corky lost his mother at age two. He worked in the sugar beet farms throughout his school. Mr. graduated from Denver Pete Fools Manuel High School in 1944 at the age of 16. After high school, he had enrolled in the University of Denver with plans to become an engineer. The financial class food became too high, and he left college to begin what would become a very successful boxing career. He became an amateur national champion and was eventually considered one of the best featherweight champions in the world. Two years into his boxing career, he married Geraldine Romero, and they had eight children. Six years later, he retired from his boxing career and finished with a record of 65 wins.

Gonzales registered a vast amount of Mexican-Americans to help elect John F. Kennedy in the Viva Kennedy campaign. In response to the tragedy of racial discrimination faced by Chicanos in housing, education, jobs, and politics, Gonzalez founded the Crusade for Justice in downtown Denver in the year 1966. Chicanos are not being represented in government, locally, statewide, or nationally. That same year, which have is showing Corky Gonzales in the support of the Crusade for Justice. Cesar Chavez was known as one of the most famous Chicano activists. He achieved many things, not only nationally but globally. In creating the Crusade for Justice, he sought to address the discrimination Chicanos and amenities in education. He supported the Denver West High School walkout. Gonzales wanted to improve the Mexican American neighborhoods by fighting against racial profiling and police brutality. Another reason Corky founded the Crusade for Justice was because of the Vietnam War and how Chicanos are being treated. Through everything, Mexican-Americans people were always discriminated against, but during the Vietnam War, they were the ones that were fighting for this country of the moat and put in the front of the lines during war.
In 1967, Corky Gonzales published a very famous poem, "I Am Joaquin." Joaquin is the life of our people. Walk she is one of us and all of us. In the year 1968, Martin Luther King created the idea of a populist campaign. Martin Luther King Jr. wanted to address the poverty innate multi-race, therefore he invited her friends on this and today is becoming Corky said yes for another budding to the Chicano Movement. But just weeks before the campaign, MLK was assassinated, which led the populist campaign into the hands of raising it all about, and that is a porky Gonzaga stand. Crusade for Justice were involved in a full People's Campaign. We've heard about the previous campaign, heard not bad. Martin Luther King organized a group of poor people to go to Washington for a home, not argue, and fight for poor people's rights. Well, quickly rose on this map with Martin Luther King before he got killed because that purpose campaign was planned. What Koki wanted some planning meetings in Atlanta about the Poor People's Campaign, but before the corporate campaign happened, two fingers killed in 1968. In 1969, Korky hosted the first National Chicano Youth Liberation As Both, where this was to bring young people of all sorts together and discuss community issues and politics. Also in the year 1969, a teacher had made racist comments. [Music] Korky then organized a walkout at West High School for the students to be heard. Although they did not expect there to be any type of violence, the police came in, was Dustin teargas, and 12 people were injured during this time, including one officer. Corky Gonzales was also arrested. On March 17, 1973, the police decided to raid the Crusade for Justice in resuming of more than just a jaywalk. The people of the Crusades for Justice supported the Wounded Knee, which caused the police to keep an eye on Corky and his organization. Many people were injured during the time of the raid. Unfortunately, Luis Jr. Martinez, co-founder of the Crusade for Justice, was shot and killed protecting his people. Five years later, Corky Gonzales suffered a heart attack while driving, causing a car accident that led to head injuries. As a result, he no longer made public appearances. At the age of 76, clicking and violence passed away of heart failure on April 12, 2005. On April 17th, many people joined together and marched in the remembrance of Corky Gonzales to celebrate the legacy he left behind.
