A business with no sign is a sign of no business. (music) So we kind of like to hang our hat on that. (music) Ya know, we really our expertise is in custom electric signs. Everyone knows of our Portland sign, that's our prized possession. I mean, that's 800 square feet. Other ones around town, there's Bamboo Sushi downtown and Pendleton Woolen Mills. We do thousands and thousands and thousands.
There's so many facets of putting a sign together that are behind the scenes that are almost unknown. This is for a restaurant in Seattle called Bok a Bok and Kevin is the first person to get his hands on it and start creating the parts. Kevin builds this thing on paper to make sure that this is gonna go into that and this is gonna fit that neon. It's gonna plug into this. You know, you got to kind of see through the sign and see what's inside the sign and what the neon is going to do. And we have to make sure that none of the electronics are gonna be hitting the the beams inside. Then sheet metal will get it. Then they build it just like that picture. (music)
There seems to be quite a resurgence of neon as it is, so it was just a natural to create another neon sign for his restaurant. Very attractive, very eye-catching. Motion, animation, those are things that grab people's eye. This is an old-school technique. You know, it's hot enough when the paper starts burning. Because of the color, because of the flash, because of the sparkle, I think that the artistry almost speaks for itself.
Ramsay Signs was founded in 1911 by a gentleman named AG Ramsay. He migrated out here from Missouri. He was a publisher of a newspaper. They started out on stage coaches and feed stores and it just kind of took off from there. (music)
We're very fortunate that we have so many people here that have been in this industry forever. Kevin, 30 years. I come every day because I love it so much. I know, good answer. Adrian our tube bender forever. Dwayne and Levon forever. Wait, wait, wait, my thumb's in there. It'll be 40 years next year that I started working here. We just have worked together so long that we kind of all think in the same page. All of the people here work their rears off. Every time, it's, we didn't think we could make it cool and it's cooler in the last one. (music)
