Greetings everyone, welcome to PNCAN's holistic development plenary session this midterm. So, I am again, Ms. Rosalie and Baligo, your instructor for this course. So here we are again. You are watching again in your respective homes this video lecture because our anticipated face-to-face plenary session this October 18 did not push through. During the prelims, if you remember, our face-to-face plenary session also did not push through due to a power outage at PNC. This midterm, it did not push through due to the declaration by our Governor Sol Arogones of a change in learning modality. Nevertheless, we are here now with VG Recording Lectures. The learning and sharing of knowledge and experiences in this course continue. So without further ado, let's begin. So today, I will discuss the highlights of the PNC student handbook. Therefore, after you watch this video lecture, it is expected that you understand the important rules, guidelines, and expectations stated in the student handbook of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao. Have you seen it? Do you know where to find the student handbook? So, we will go over that later, one by one. So, before anything else, let's try to guess. Let's answer the question flashing on the screen. So, number one, what is the in-house developing management system utilized by Pamantasan ng Cabuyao? In your opinion, what is the learning management system of PNC called? I'll give you 3 seconds to answer that question. 3, 2, 1. So, what is your answer? Okay, I cannot hear your answers, but I hope you guessed the answer. So, the correct answer for this question is what we call Pinacle. I know you know that because before you entered PNC, that was what you asked many questions about and emailed to the admissions office. Next. What is the flexible learning method wherein the students and teaching personnel are not required to be online at the same time? In your opinion, what is the correct answer to that question? And I know you are experiencing that and are very familiar with that setup of a learning method. So, what is it called when teachers and students are not required to be online at the same time? So, the correct answer for that is the asynchronous method. Next, last question. What do you call the act of seeking guidance and assistance from a teaching personnel assigned to a particular course? Do you know what it's called when you can ask questions, seek guidance, and assistance when you are having difficulty with the course you are taking this first semester, when you need help with your studies, with what is being studied in class? So, what is that act of seeking guidance and assistance called? Have you heard of it? Have you been given the teacher's schedule for that? So, I'll give you 3 seconds to answer that. 3, 2, 1. So, the correct answer for that is academic consultation. I know you know that because on the very first day of class, the instructor posts it on Pinacle, when you can approach them. So, for more information about academic consultation, we will discuss that later. So now, as I mentioned at the beginning, what I will discuss are the highlights of the PNC student handbook. The question is, where can you find it? Please explore the features of Pinacle. You can download the student handbook manual of the University of Cabuyao, Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, there. So, you can download it and read and understand it from top to bottom so you are guided on what the rules, regulations, and guidelines of PNC are, and so you do not get lost. But of course, I will only discuss the highlights of the PNC student handbook. So, what is its importance? Why do you need to be familiarized with and know the processes here at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao? So, here, it's a good advantage for you in continuing to achieve academic pursuits as a student because you will avoid many of your questions to the offices, for example, if you don't know how to shift programs, how to file a leave of absence, all of that is in the student handbook. So, remember that the student handbook contains all the processes on how to do transactions, like what I mentioned, filing a leave of absence, what to do when you are absent from an exam. So, everything is in the student handbook. You should read it because it's a good advantage for you to know what to avoid and what to do. So, next. A student handbook serves as a comprehensive source of information about the university's policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. So, even our regulations and procedures when we enrolled you are in the student handbook. It also states in the student handbook what documents we require from you. That's why we gave them to you when you enrolled. So, it is really a comprehensive source of information because it's not just about enrollment. What data is needed. So, there is other information in there. The grading system is also there. So, I will discuss that with you later. So, it provides students with a centralized and easily accessible resource for understanding the expectations and guidelines they need to follow during their academic journey. So, remember that these guidelines imposed and implemented by Pamantasan ng Cabuyao were approved by the management committee and also approved by the legal council of PNC. So, there. So, it is easily accessible for you to read and understand. What are the expected attitudes or behaviors from you as a student? That is also stated in the student handbook. So, now, this picture I will show is the table of contents of the student handbook. First, of course, the history of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao will be discussed down to institutional recognition. So, all of that is covered in the first part. So, in Part One, admission and enrollment are also there. Um, I know you know that process because that's what we made you do upon your enrollment. And then Part Two, academic guidelines. Everything about student examinations is there. How you will issue your academic records like a certificate of enrollment. So, that is also there. And then retention guidelines. How long should you stay here at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao? That is also there. So, Part Three, student services. What offices can you go to for services? Guidance, medical, and libraries are also there. So, all the guidelines and regulations of the mentioned offices there should be read so you know the processes there. And then Part Four, a code of conduct and disciplinary procedures. And at the end, in the appendix, the PNC March is stated. Because often, I notice that the PNC March should be memorized and internalized. It should not just be a task to memorize because it is a requirement for a course. But all students of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao should know the PNC March so that every time we have an event, you can join and sing along to our PNC March. So, you will sing it, even if you just hear it, you can sing along because it should really be memorized, the PNC March. Okay. So, here I have given highlights. How long should you study here at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao? So, all the baccalaureate degree programs offered will last for four years. And then your maximum years of residency, just in case you failed subjects, you have to retake them, you should only stay here for 6 years. That is the maximum year. So, you should aim as a student to finish in four years, only four years at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao. So, do not extend your residency. That should be the goal. After 4 years, I should graduate. So, there. So, there are also rules on the maximum residency rule. Um, if the student does not complete the requirements of the degree program within the prescribed period of actual residence, you can no longer continue with that program. But there are also meritorious cases where an extension of residency may be granted to you. So, for further details, further information, you can find it in the student handbook. Just remember, your goal should be to finish in four years at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao. But just in case that doesn't happen, 6 years is the maximum residency. So, now let's discuss the Pinacle, the learning management system. You know, you are very fortunate because you already have Pinacle. Because in our time, when I first entered Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, there was no Pinacle. Imagine, all processes and systems were manual. It was pen and paper, and there were long queues for transactions you needed. But surely, there are still many. You still experience many queues. That will not disappear because you have many customers or clients. But imagine, in our time, since it was still pen and paper, not yet a digital and electronic system, the queues were longer, and the process was somewhat slow and tedious. Ah, that's why Pinacle is a great help. Not just a great help, but a huge help. So, of course, this learning management system of PNC is not yet perfect. But somehow, it's a big thing that Pinacle exists because there are now online transactions, and the systems have become easier. So, I will give you a scenario. So, I will give you a situation, especially now that you are applying for scholarships. Because before, when there was no Pinacle, when we applied for a scholarship, since we needed a registration form and a copy of grades, we didn't have them yet. To get the registration form, we had to get it from our college. So, remember, there are many students applying for scholarships. So, we would request that from the college or our office. For example, the College of Education. So, we would queue for all of that. And then when we get it, we would have to wait for the registration form to be printed. Sometimes, the R form of PNC has thick paper, and it has a designated color for it. So, it cannot just be reproduced by anyone. It has to be from PNC itself. So, the registration form comes from them, and sometimes there are chances that it's not yet printed. We would wait, and then when it's printed, we would line up for it. And when we get there, we would have it signed by our [unclear] and then it would also be signed by the registrar. So, there's another queue again to get the registration form approved. And then before it's approved, after it's approved, we would have it photocopied, and then queue again at the registrar to have it certified as a true copy. So, that's the process for just the registration form. And the copy of grades is the same. We would queue at our college, our department, and then wait for them to produce the printed copy, and then have it signed. So, that's the process. We would wait for the hard copy to be in our office before we could get it. And then we would queue for another signature again, whoever the signatories are. But unlike now, with Pinacle, you can download it anytime. You can even download your registration form multiple times from Pinacle, and it also generates your grades or your final grades for a particular semester. So, you are very fortunate because it's that easy. It generates immediately. You download it, print it, and queue at the registrar. So, the process has become faster because of Pinacle. So, what else? What other situations? For example, this is another scenario from our fourth year when we used Pinacle. Since we were not used to using Pinacle at that time, of course, we were still scholars, and we had to pay. We would file for and get our registration form. We forgot to download the latest registration form and our grades. That's why it closes, you know, every semester, when it's a new semester, your copy of the old registration form will disappear. So, you should download your registration form this semester. Because when the next semester opens, it will be another registration form. What happened the first time, in our first year, we didn't download it because we weren't used to this Pinacle. We forgot in the second semester, so when the second semester came, since we didn't download it, we made another request to the registrar, and you would have to pay, at that time it was still Php100, to generate a new form because we didn't download it. So, many people did that, not just me, but my classmates too, who forgot to download their registration form from Pinacle because we weren't used to using it. We were used to the manual system. But I'm telling you, Pinacle is very good. I also remember when we were in our first year, third year, we couldn't see our preliminary grades here because there was no system, no learning management system. Sometimes, you forget what your grade was in the preliminary or midterm. So, you really have to track it. But unlike here, with Pinacle, your grades are saved. Your preliminary grades are saved, and you can also see your midterm grades. So, that's the record that it keeps. Unlike us, where sometimes professors didn't update it immediately. So, sometimes you just get nervous when it's the final grade. So, like that. So, Pinacle has helped a lot because it is the centralized system of PNC for teacher-student interaction. And then, of course, you can also see new announcements on Pinacle. So, you should always open Pinacle because that is our main management system, especially the learning management system. So, now, as I repeat, this new learning management system is used for the following purposes. Number one, access course materials. So, your professors or instructors upload their learning materials, PowerPoints, and others there. So, you should use it to download and to um, this is your source for course materials. The next purpose is also for you to interact with your teachers and also collaborate with classmates online. So, Pinacle is the in-house developed learning management system. So, I wanted to highlight the word in-house. It was developed by our management information system department. So, it came from us. It's not from well-known companies like Google. So, it's really from MISD, they programmed and created Pinacle. So, it is used to administer, deliver, and assess electronic educational technology courses or programs. So, asynchronous learning, you are definitely very familiar with this. You are very used to asynchronous and synchronous learning. So, when we say asynchronous, this is the learning method where teachers and students are not required to meet online at the same time. So, usually, there are activities or assessment tasks assigned to you. And then you can do that um anytime, anywhere, on your own preferred schedule to submit the activity afterward. And then, of course, on the other hand, synchronous learning. This is the learning method where students and teachers attend remote or virtual classes each week at the same time. So, this is what is being implemented now until October 31. Synchronous learning method. So, now, aside from Pinacle, we also have external learning tools. So, instructors and teachers can also use other um, other learning applications to continue learning. So, not just only Pinacle, but other external learning tools like Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. So, Google Meet is often used. So, that's okay. So, it is stated in our student handbook that external learning tools can be used. So, all students should be given access rights in Pinacle. So, the moment you remember, during your enrollment, we all gave you a Pinacle account. That's what was immediately stated the moment we enrolled you because you should have access to Pinacle. So, students who do not open Pinacle should have that addressed. You should raise your concerns to the MISD office because Pinacle is very important. Remember that. From first year until before you graduate, you will use Pinacle. Not just because you see your grades. You can download learning materials. You see announcements. You download registration forms. Not just that. Because your financial accounts are also there, what you need to pay or not. So, that is also stated there. And when you graduate, there is also the clearance. So, you cannot graduate if you do not open Pinacle. So, you must have access to your Pinacle account. And for students who have not opened it yet, who are having problems because they forgot their password, their birthday is wrong, fix it. Because, as I said, you should always open Pinacle. Make it a habit or routine to open Pinacle every day, or have it notify you of any new announcements on Pinacle. Moreover, all users of Pinacle are responsible for maintaining the security of usernames and passwords. This is important because you should not share your password with others. No one else should know it but you. Because sometimes, situations happen where you give it to your cousins, siblings who are also studying at PNC, or to your classmates your Pinacle accounts. For example, if you don't have data or signal, since your best friend has a stable internet, you give them your account, and they will submit it. And that is against um data privacy. So, it should only be you. Because there are instances where if other students or other people know your account or have access to your account, there have been incidents where they were bullied because their grades were seen and spread, and they were sued because of another student's grades. So, that's why only you should know that. Only you should have access to your Pinacle. Okay? In terms of ethics for video and recording, all visual sessions should be supervised by the teaching personnel at all times. And then, during virtual class, during virtual class, it is not required to open your camera because of data privacy law protection. But of course, sometimes we also allow it when instructors ask to open cameras for feature taking only or for documentation because it is submitted to the deans. Or to HR. So, that's it, but you can also refuse to open your camera. That is also stated in our student handbook. Now, let's move on to the grading system at Pamantasan ng Cabuyao. I know during your orientation, these are what you took pictures of on the screen at MPH on the fourth floor, the grading system, and you should really be guided by the grading system of PNC. So, this grading system is a system of marks used by teachers to evaluate the quality of students' academic work. And it is divided into two. Some have lecture grades. Other departments have laboratory grades, like CCS, Engineering, and Nursing. They have laboratory grades. So, let's discuss the lecture grade first. This is the rating a student receives based on their understanding of the principles, concepts, and theories discussed in class. So, it's more about just um what is checked, evaluated, what you have understood based on the discussion. And then for the laboratory, it's about the application of the concepts taught to you during the lecture. Okay. The grading system is zero-based with a 60% passing rate for courses with units to be credited. So, I know this was also highlighted during the orientation, that PNC is zero-based. So, you can receive a zero grade in any course you are taking. And then, here at PhD, if you pass the um, the grading system is different. 50% is participation, 50% is activity. If you pass those two, you can also receive a zero. Okay? And our final grades. So, do you know how to compute final grades? So, prelim 30%. For example, in prelim, you got 97. You will only take 30% of 97. Just compute it. And then in midterm, you got 94. You will only take 30% of 94 out of 100. Whatever 30% of 94 and 97 is, you add them. Then, for finals, for example, you got 100 in finals, you will only take 40% of that. And then you add the three, the prelim, midterm, and finals. And that will be your final grade. And once you have the final grade, it will be converted into a grade point value, where there are equivalents. For example, will you get a flat uno based on the final grade? 1.25, 1.5? It depends. So, as I mentioned, this is the grade point value. So, if your final grade is in the range of 96 to 100, what you will see on your computerized card is flat uno. And the remark is pass. So, tres, if your grade point value is tres, it still means pass. You will only fail if your final grade is 59 or below. And if you get an INC, incomplete, it means in the final period, final term, you did not take the entrance exam. You did not take the final exam due to a valid reason and the teacher submits the grade, it will be marked as incomplete. So, to get a grade, you must address it within one year, within 5 months. Because if you do not address the incomplete, it will become a failed grade, it will automatically become a failing grade after 5 months or after one semester. That's incomplete. And there is also what is called officially job. Now, the following academic honors awardees shall be given every semester to qualified students. So, every semester, there are awarding ceremonies. There are awards given to President's Lister, Vice President for Academic Affairs Lister, and Dean's Lister. So, there are um, there are criteria to follow on how to become a President's Lister, Vice President's Lister, and Dean's Lister. So, it's on your screen, and you can read and understand it in the student handbook. And here, when you are a fourth-year student, for graduation, these are the honors and awards you can receive. If you want to be summa cum laude, your average should be between 1 and 1.25, and the minimum grade should be 92%. So, you should not have grades below 92%. So, there. So, there are also other criteria aside from grades. You should not have been involved in any disciplinary action. You should not have any INC or draft or failure in any course, even PE, NSTP, or PhD. So, there are also other criteria for graduation honors and awards aside from the weighted average and grades. Now, we are here at academic consultation and class year level advising. So, here, regarding academic consultation, remember that every semester, all instructors have an academic consultation schedule. So, within a week, if your instructors are full-time at PNC, they should allocate four hours for academic consultation. This can be from Monday to Friday. Just within a week, four hours for academic consultation with you. Because this academic consultation is very important. Just in case, for example, I, before, I also handled [unclear]. For example, my student was always failing quizzes and midterm exams. So, what do I do in academic consultation? What else can I help them with? How do they review? What is their [unclear]? Where can they learn better? So, that's it. And if you are also going through difficulties, obstacles in your studies, as long as it's related to academics, you can also mention it to your instructors, but only during their scheduled academic consultation. So, this is the definition of academic consultation. It is the act of seeking guidance and assistance from a teaching personnel assigned to a particular course. So, for all the subjects you are taking, there is a schedule for academic consultation. So, for me, I posted it on the very first day of our class or the very first week of the semester. So, you can approach me if you need anything regarding our subject. If you are confused or lost. So, go to the admissions office. And then the purpose of this academic consultation is to have a discussion and explore effective strategies to address learning difficulties in the subject matter or topic, as well as general course requirements. So, to be guided on what you are lacking in submission. So, that's also there. And then, of course, students who undergo academic consultations are students at risk. They are students experiencing learning difficulties due to poor student habits, disinterest, or negative attitudes toward school or subjects. Um, poor attendance, you often hear and notice teachers looking for or asking where this student is. So, that is also a way of academic consultation, and these students are also those with poor punctuality, those who are always late, low attention span, inability to follow instructions, and communication problems. And then, aside from students at risk who are given academic consultation, exceptional students are also included. These are students who exhibit exceptional abilities in certain fields such as mathematics, creative writing, science, leadership, etc. So, instructors can still help you develop your talents and abilities further. Now, regarding the code of conduct, it is very important that you know and internalize what the rules are regarding the code of conduct in the student handbook. First, Chapter 1, Code of Student Conduct, Section 1, General Policies. Number one, students are required to conduct themselves and dress appropriately at all times in accordance with the rules established by the university. So, this student handbook and it is upheld by the university, so it must be followed, and all of you are required to dress appropriately when entering PNC. I know that the guards also reprimand those who do not follow the proper decorum of PNC and confiscate IDs. And another one, parents, guardians, or students are required to become familiar with the information in this guideline. So, let's highlight required. Not just you, but also your guardians or parents. Any student is nonetheless subject to the consequences listed here even if they are unaware of the rules contained here. Even if your reason when you violate something is "I didn't know." So, no. Even if you don't know what the rules in the student handbook say, you are not exempt from the proper punishment if you have committed a mistake or violated the school's rules. So, even ignorance of the law excuses no one. So, even if you don't know the rules stated in the student handbook, you are still subject to the consequences. And then, number three, students must be proud of their university and act in a way that upholds the reputation of this institution, no matter where they are. As we mentioned during the prelims. So, you should be proud of your alma mater. This is what accepted you to achieve your desired bachelor's degree. So, this is what will give you a diploma for free. So, PNC is doing its best to provide you with quality education for a good system. So, you should be proud of your university, and you should always remember that you are also upholding the reputation. So, we repeat that about the reputation of the institution because you carry that. So, wherever you are, always be proud of your university. And then students are expected to conduct themselves in a mature and responsible manner at all times. You are of legal age, so you should act as a professional, as a young professional. Practice professionalism starting now. Your behavior, your manners should be mature. Your actions, the way you talk to your instructors, should be in a professional way. Practice that now. Because after you graduate, you will be looking for a job. And if you practice professionalism within the university, for sure, you will carry that to your work. So, and responsible manner at all times, whether inside PNC or outside. And also, students are expected to respect those in positions, the authorities. When you see them, greet them. Not just, of course, the higher authorities of PNC, but also our guards, our utility or housekeeping staff. So, when you see them, give them respect. And then, aside from the teachers you respect, you should also respect your fellow students, because we all have our own rights. So, do not step on or take away the rights of your fellow students. And also, it still remains, upholding the reputation of the university. So, that is stated in the student handbook. Next, it is anticipated that students will adhere to the standards of appropriateness and decency at all times when they are permitted to wear civilian clothing. So, just in case there is an announcement or an order that you can wear civilian clothes, and just in case there are scenarios like that. When you are allowed to wear civilian attire, it should still be decent. Micro mini skirts are not allowed. Shorts are not allowed. Wearing just cycling shorts, a tube top, a sleeveless top is not allowed. Because, as we repeatedly say, practice professionalism. No? So, that is not allowed inside Pamantasan ng Cabuyao. Wearing slippers. Ah, plunging neckline blouses, see-through blouses, halter tops, backless tops, tank tops, leggings, sando. Because even at work, in reality, when you work, especially in government, that is also not allowed. So, practice that. But of course, it depends. If there is an announcement from PNC that you can wear civilian clothes. But now, what is being implemented is the prescribed uniform for a specific day, for example, Monday, what should be worn there? That's what you should follow because if not, you will face sanctions. Or student discipline. For further information, to gain more knowledge about student conduct, student discipline, you can read it in the student handbook because what I am giving you are just highlights. So, it is stated in the student handbook that there are disciplinary actions. There are many disciplinary actions that can be given to you, imposed on you. So, of course, first, reprimand. You will be told. You will be told. Next, you will be given a warning. Next is suspension. And after suspension, there is also what is called preventive suspension. There is reformative suspension. There is restitution, and you can also be denied readmission. Removal. And exclusion and expulsion. So, um, more details in the student handbook because, for example, our next slide is offenses and sanctions. So, first, of course, light offenses. What are the activities, behaviors, or manners that you do that fall under the category of light offense, under minor offense, major offense, and serious offense? And if you read it in our student handbook, even plagiarism is under serious offense. And what are the sanctions for a serious offense? The consequence is expulsion. For example, I will give you a serious offense. Um, falsification of documents is also a serious offense. I will give you a situation. If a child is absent and is not accepted unless they present valid evidence. For example, the reason is a headache, and when they return to school, they submit a medical clearance to their instructor. And in the medical clearance, even if you verify the medical clearance, it is really against the law of PNC, the law of the government, falsification of documents is considered a serious offense here in the student handbook, and if it is reported to guidance based on the student handbook, you will be expelled from PNC. That's how disciplinary actions are given when you falsify, no? So, read it so you can read the student handbook so you know where light offenses fall, minor offenses, disrespect, even simple disrespect, there are categories for these offenses, and what are the corresponding disciplinary actions that will be given to you. Next, students. Of course, if you have complaints, who should you approach? Who can you approach? If you have grievances or concerns, you should know that. So, that can also be read in the student handbook. So, here, all complaints shall be addressed by the concerned office because you might be going to the wrong office with your grievances or opinions. If issues are about academic probation, you should approach your college dean. And issues about the performance or behavior of support staff can be addressed to the HR of PNC. And if it's about crimes, possible crimes, you can file it with SASD, or the Student Affairs and Services Department. And regarding issues about health, you should go to the clinic. If it's about the library, go to the library. So, there are respective offices. And whatever your complaints are, you can address them to the correct office. Okay. What else can be found in the student handbook? So, so you don't have to keep asking. What should be done? How to shift? How to transfer? How to cross-enroll? How to file a leave of absence? What is a leave of absence? What is shifting? Shifting. So, just read the student handbook. Everything is there because that is also what each office follows. If you want to shift, you need to follow the guidelines in the student handbook. So, you should be aware of the process of shifting, of these things I mentioned. So, there.
