This is a scapula bone. It is also called a shoulder blade. It is placed on the posterior lateral aspect of the chest wall.
Okay, talking about its external features. So, scapula has two surfaces. This one, this is called as the costal surface of a scapula. And this, this one, this is called as the dorsal surface of a scapula. Costal surface of a scapula is also called as subscapular fossa.
The dorsal surface of a scapula, it bears this spine, spinous process, which divides the scapula into supraspinous fossa and infraspinous fossa. And the area where supraspinous fossa and infraspinous fossa meet each other is called as spinoglenoid notch.
Scapula has three borders. This is called a superior border of a scapula. And it bears a small notch called a suprascapular notch. Okay. And this one, this is called as the medial border of a scapula. It runs from superior angle above to inferior angle below. This one, this is called as the lateral border of a scapula. It is the thickest border of a scapula. Runs from glenoid angle above to inferior angle below.
It has three processes. Okay. This one, this is called a spinous process of a scapula. This is called as an acromion process of a scapula. And this one, this bead-like structure, this is called as coracoid process of a scapula.
