[Music] The ninth house is the house of the higher mind, travel, wisdom, philosophy, higher education, law, and religion. Cross-cultural relations, learning, and ethics are also part of it. The natural planetary ruler is Jupiter. It is a yang house, its element is fire, its modality is mutable, and the perspective is universal.
The ninth house is where we give fundamental meanings to things, events, people, conditions, and experiences. I liken the ninth house to the fluid of the inner ear. It is our reference point for being in the world. Our idea of faith, hope, and our vision for our life is described by this house. Right and wrong, moral and immoral, ideology and faith are all the realm of this very important house.
Optimism and positive outlook are also described by the ninth house because they are related to hope and confidence in something greater than the current state of things. The ninth house is also the property of travel, expansion, and growth. What happens when we digest added information? Travel leads to unfamiliar territory and expands our previous concepts that were limited by or foreign to our own cultural tolerances.
Ethics and our moral code are also the domain of the ninth house because culture, what beliefs we are raised with, largely determines our moral ideas. Culture is a gift we give to each other. It's the contrast in belief and customs that cause us to question what we already know, what is familiar, or seemingly true. Cultural differences lead to understanding that what we already know, what is naturally familiar, may not actually be universally true.
The ninth house ultimately contains whatever expands an individual's field of activity and learning, or the scope of their mind. Planets in the ninth house show an individual's approach to law, education, learning, and teachers.
The ninth house of the higher mind naturally opposes the third house of the lower mind. The third house describes the closed intellectual environment, while the ninth house describes the ways in which one seeks to discover larger fields of social existence, which one may not come into direct contact with but can explore through books, education, and abstractions. The third house is concrete thought, while the ninth house is abstract thought.
We take in information in the third house of perceptions but apply that information to life through filtering it through our belief system in the ninth house. We have the opportunity to avoid self-radicalization through adding ideas and ways of being from other eras, societies, and civilizations. We increase our own chances for intellectual achievement through accepting new teachings and enlightening our minds.
Dissemination of knowledge is a ninth activity. Knowledge that turns into understanding, comprehension of the totality of the thing. The ninth house is also the house of symbols, as all words and numbers that teach us and enlarge our understanding are themselves symbols. The way in which we personally interpret these symbols results in our understanding or comprehension of a situation, condition, or experience.
Books, teachings, written words that build understanding are found in the ninth house, along with publishing, the distribution of written words and knowledge. Making of laws is also the property of the ninth house, although enforcement of laws is the realm of the tenth. The creation of a law is an idealistic act. We are looking to what is best, what is the most exemplary and correct way to be.
The creation of law also requires education of the social principles held by a culture. We seek the best social outcome in the ninth house, as well as solidarity in moral, philosophical, and religious understanding. Our beliefs about government are also signaled by this house. Do we believe government to be threatening or helpful? Do we believe it to be curtailing our freedom or enhancing it? These attitudes are found with ninth house planets, the ruler of the ninth house, and where it is placed and how aspected.
Money, abundance, comfort, happiness, and the social power that comes from wealth are also covered by the ninth house, along with our attitudes toward these things. How we can increase in social power in general is described by the ninth house. When we expand our education, it typically leads to added wealth, added value that we offer the world.
Happiness is the property of the ninth house because it is the result of hope for something more, growth, and increase. Decrease leads to feelings of lack, feelings of starvation and denial. Truth, unity, morality, and principle values are what is chiefly found in the ninth house. This house represents the stage of life where we are being more ideologically adventurous and when we typically have the money to travel, ages 45 to 56 years old.
