So we're talking about transits through the ninth house today and what, uh, kind of interesting experiences that, uh, that can result in. And we've talked a lot about the ninth house, and we've gone through this natal chart series. Well, a lot of all of the houses, the ninth house is particularly interesting because it's such a, um, it's such an interesting house because it's where we find abstraction, we find language, we find the kinds of stories and novels and publishing and, uh, systems of spreading our word and ideas that, uh, have a lot of consequence when it comes to the kinds of law, the kinds of social ideas, the kinds of, um, social integrating forces that we all combine ourselves within.
So it's a lot of the ways that we deal with each other. Let me let somebody in here. We deal with each other socially, and it creates a bond, it creates a glue, these common stories. So the way that we share these abstract ideas that come from the common symbols of the third house, which is the letters of things, the facts of things, the common, um, the, the commonly accepted fact of something like we can all look at the letter A and say that as a letter A. But we can put that letter A into all kinds of different more abstract meanings, words, publish those words. That letter A has consequences in the ninth house with Sagittarius. So the way that we, we apply symbols to our lives and [Music] the kinds of behavior that the application of those symbols results in, very much a ninth house thing. It's our philosophy, our moral ideas, the, uh, mission that we will go on, on the crusade that we go on. That is a ninth house action. The, the larger vision is an eleventh house thing, but the mission or the crusade, which is a bit more personal to us, is a ninth house thing.
So beliefs have consequences because we do act on those. And when we have transits through the ninth house, the beliefs and consequences, consequently, are actions. Very much go through a process of either growth or regression because we can choose to double down on things and not learn our lessons. And so, you know, sometimes we'll eventually learn it, but it can take 15 times come around. So it's an opportunity to grow in a direction that's going to bring us more joy, increase our realistic optimism, the way that we can actually find hope and meaning, direction in the world that might actually be more descriptive of the reality that we're actually in. That's the benefit that we get out of ninth house transits because ninth house stuff, that religious fire, that hope, that thing that we can put our faith and our trust in, that is something that humans have always had with us. It's one of the processes of development. And the quality of the, yes, the truth of what it is that we place our faith and our hope in, you know, a lot of the quality of that, it really depends. It hangs on the matters of the eighth house, which is our fears and our darkness and how we have handled that anxiety. So we see that connection with how we have experienced, um, uh, it changes as planets have gone through the eighth house, how we've dealt with anxiety, the unknown, the death, the reflection, [Music] all of the darkness of the eighth house. And then the consequences of that, the furtherance of that story of our life, the drama of our life, all comes into the ninth house. So how we have dealt with the darkness or with the unknown is going to have a lot to do with what kind of baptism by fire we go through within that ninth house environment. As within the ninth house, we're finding more our place in the universe, we're finding more place in the scheme of things. And that ninth house is where we find a direction. And that direction is very much related to the meaning that we give to things. It's Jupiter, Sagittarius, ninth house stuff. This is where we find that red dot on the map that says, "You are here." It's a reference point for being in the world because it's a lot of what everything circulates is our belief system. It's what we believe, you know, to be right or wrong, left or right, up or down. And so when we go through a crisis of faith, we can go through that head-spinning, uh, era of really not knowing where we are or what to do. We're, it's a very disillusioning process because we, we don't have sight of that red X anymore that says, "You are here."
So when we have the Sun going through that ninth house environment, we are dealing with about a month where we are broadening personal horizons and our personal creativity. This is a good month to have the Sun in the Sun is naturally akin to ninth house things because it's trying to the ninth house. It's itself a fiery energy. And when that comes into the ninth house, I actually have the ego coming into the superego environment. So confidence tends to be enhanced. The idea of, of, uh, "can do" personally, being able to can be able to do something because we have, um, the support of optimism, the support of faith, the support of, um, is seeing the best that could happen. That helps us to act in a way that we can enhance our personal sense of, uh, of meaning, of being meaningful, of contribution. And that can often come through growth and having some new personal experiences that again, we have enough confidence to pursue because we have more of a faith in the self. So it's like, um, I, where we wouldn't normally climb a steep mountain, with the Sun going through the ninth house, we feel more impervious to the typical kinds of fears that we may have because we can feel more that there's a wind in our sails, or there's a, there's a guiding hand, or more of a meaning, there's, um, a connection with with spirit. And that, you know, we can give all kinds of meanings to that, all kinds of definitions to that, but we are ourselves more spirited because we are [Music] uh, connected with our own personal optimism that comes from faith.
Now, we, there's a broad array of things that a person could have that faith in. Um, but it, whatever it is that we find that comfort, that meaning, and that direction in, it's tied to during this period of time with this transit. It's tied to how we feel personally supported or uplifted. So the personal ego is very much enhanced by the idea of what it is that ultimately we get, you know, what we place on faith or optimism in. So it could be our religion, it could be our philosophy, it could be that, uh, it could be astrology because we know at this time we are feeling more personally optimistic. Whatever it is that brings that meaning or a direction or it gives us an understanding or framework for what it is for being in the world, whatever symbolisms it is that we give to things, that is what we are finding that extra wind in our sails coming from. So, uh, we may devote ourselves more to religious experiences during this particular time. We may feel more devotional to what it is that we find is our particular story, how we weave our facts together within that third house to become more of an abstract idea of what it is to be ourselves and what it is to be in the world. So the meaning machine that we run everything through, that's basically the ninth house. And, uh, it's a very hopeful time. We can have more of a broad understanding of our place in the universe. We really can have some experiences as the Sun is going through that ninth house, they can make us expand a bit more beyond the boundaries of just the personal reference and be able to have more of a security in understanding or in a cycle within a cycle, or how we fit more into the larger scheme of things. So although it can be a personally ego aggrandizing kind of confidence enhancing transit, there can be experiences within that way of being that do help to elevate us to maybe being less egoic and hopeful for egoic reasons, and hopeful based more on what the actual facts of things might be. What is the actual viewpoint when you pull out a bit more from the immediacy of ideology? What might things look like? So I could be an enlightening transit, as all transits through the ninth house can definitely be.
Now, the Moon, much less consequential because it moves so quickly. Now, we'll just have a couple of days where we're going to be dealing with more of a restless mood. We can be running more errands. This is a time where we can be feeling more bored with our everyday life. We want to get out, we want to do something. I've often found when the Moon is going through my ninth house that I'll leave the dishes undone and just go out and do whatever shopping that needs to be done, or go to the nursery and buy some new plants, or, you know, do something that is, it's out of the ordinary and it just brings more of a sense of general enjoyment to life. So sometimes we can chuck our more daily responsibilities and and just do something or indulge in something, even a conversation with somebody, you know, spend more time talking to the neighbor or talking to somebody that just brings something different, something interesting into our daily or or home life. So, um, we're just kind of wanting to break that [Music] the structure of what's next with the Moon going through the ninth house. So things, you know, that are going to offer as little spurts of growth within that little period of time is what we're very drawn to. And we can spend more time in indulgences. I may be eating a little bit more chocolate, spending more time in the shower, sleeping in a little bit more. So there's a, uh, wanting to enjoy ourselves a bit more, spending, um, time exploring or lingering, doing the things that bring us a sense of enjoyment in our daily life. So it's a friendly transit for the Moon.
At Mercury, so when Mercury goes through the ninth house, um, this is a period of weeks, depending on if we have a retrograde period, it could be more a period of weeks where we can be more curious or eager to learn things that we don't already know. So we may be looking at what kinds of facts can we add to our existing pool of knowledge. So we can be much, much more teachable with Mercury going through the ninth house. And we're very much interested on how the constituent parts make up the whole. So how the individual, how the individual psychology, the individual behavior, the simple machine, how that relates to and affects and, in a sense, you know, very much influences and drives the mechanisms or the workings of the complex machine, the whole. So we're looking at the synthesis of the parts and the entirety. So we are often open to receiving information that is different from what we already believe to be true with Mercury going through the ninth house. We can ask more questions. We can, uh, be looking into different ideas or philosophies, or even consulting with people who don't already agree with us. Sometimes it could be as simple as like listening to a podcast that's given by somebody that we don't agree with. And perhaps we don't adopt all of their ideas or their worldview, but maybe they're able to point out something that maybe we hadn't considered before, something that might actually not completely fit in to our current worldview. So we may have to stretch that worldview to encompass some other viewpoints or some other facts that we just simply hadn't considered before. So it tends to be a very educational transit. And there's a, there's a curiosity about things that are alternative that makes us easier to communicate with. And we can draw different types of people to us, different types of experiences. It could be as simple as say, going to a museum, something that offers us different or deeper information than we got from our hometown. So our outlook will get bigger. And we can actually achieve more confidence during this period of time because there's a way that that encompassing more reality, more facts, uh, sometimes more of a, a concrete understanding into what we already know, that brings us a concrete kind of confidence. So it's a different type of confidence. It's more of a compound confidence than what we see in the ninth house.
So we have the confidence of the ninth house, which is, I'll subtly explain the difference here, or sorry, more keenly explain the differences here. Um, the confidence of the ninth house is what gives us the hope that something could be more or better. It's an idealism within us, the ability to look forward to what might be better, what might be more fulfilling, to the hope of a new day, a better day. And it gives us the confidence to keep going that there might be something better than what's now, because the idealistic signs always have this moving forward in pursuit of the creation of something that we can imagine, something that we can see is a better version of what we have, but may not be here quite yet. We may not have brought it into reality quite yet, but in pursuing it, it could become a reality. So that's what we're pursuing, that's what's keeping us going, that's the horizon we're going towards within that ninth house environment. Is it a more beautiful and broad sunset than the one I see right now, or sunrise?
So the confidence that we find within the night, within the tenth house and the southern with Capricorns, is a bit different than the confidence that we find in the ninth house. It's the confidence in the ninth house compounded with the confidence of understanding reality as it is. Because if we have confidence in things in the ninth house environment that are not checked by reality within the tenth house environment, then we can get into trouble. We get into a waste of energy. And when we understand the zodiac, the development throughout the zodiac, throughout the houses, the process of actualization, self-actualization, one of the mechanisms of that progress is efficient use of energy, efficient use of our time. And there can be a massive inefficiency within the ninth house environment if we are believing in things or pursuing things or seeing ourselves in a way that is inflated. That's where the hot air, that it's a waste of hot air, it's a waste of energy. So that ninth house environment, that is where we're learning the efficiency of the use of that hope and that belief, because that's checked in the next transits of the tenth house. So the, the, there's a difference in the kind of hope and confidence. Yeah, the confidence of the ninth, the confidence of the tenth. So the confidence of the tenth is more related to what the actual parameters and boundaries are, what's the realistic assessment of something. We, we can't know what to hope for if we don't know, if we don't have a realistic idea of what's actually real. We may be hoping for things that are [Music] not realistic. If, again, in the tenth house, if we don't understand the actual, uh, gravity and facts of things. So that when Mercury is going through that ninth house, and with some other planets going to the ninth house, it gives us a chance to learn things that can help us to have hope and to be able to find comfort and meaning in the world, but in a way where it doesn't involve that waste of energy and inefficient use of our time, because we may be chasing after horizons or rainbows that maybe aren't there. So one of the processes of self-actualization is that efficient use of time and energy and to not waste our time on what isn't actually going to be most meaningful to us or most beneficial to us in the long run. So that's what we find out with tenth house transits is how well have we been using our time, how efficiently have we been using our time. With the ninth house, we're looking at what do we believe in and how can we make that bigger, how can we add to that, how can we broaden that horizon.
So when we have the transits at the tenth house, it is, um, it's a process of acquiring more knowledge because there's a difference between knowledge and belief. We're beginning to find that out. And with transits through the ninth house, and then we're really, really coming to understand that fully with transits through the tenth house, we are starting to have personal experiences within the ninth house environment. They're actually what we are seeking when it comes to that connection between what is mystical or unknown, spirit, and self. So we can have some [Music] experiences that are not social experiences. These are things where our our hope and the meaning that we give to things can be more based on what's actually coming from a personal experience. It's not something that's coming from a, a priest or some kind of organization of status outside of ourselves. There's no, there's no middle man that's needed. So direct experience of the abyss, direct experience of self. The experiences of, uh, you know, the seventh house environment are a werewolf moments going through those eighth house transits, which are how we really digest that and further inquiry into the unknown, dealing with a lot of our anxiety and the things that we didn't want to know, or the things we didn't know that we didn't know. And then in that ninth house environment, we are learning further what's real because we're becoming more authentic. As we go through this process of self-actualization, we are becoming more individualized to understand ourselves as a creative individual. And then how does that fit into the whole? How are we connected in cooperation with others at large? So we have to go through this process of individuation in order to really understand our [Music] personal connection to the whole. If we don't go through this process of individuation, if we don't understand that personal creativity and our, our, uh, our personal right to get to be ourselves and assert our own individuality, then we just become a tool either of the religious institution or a tool of the, uh, the mass government institution. Because we're going through that ninth house, tenth house environment, and by the time we get to those eleventh house transits, if we haven't developed that process of knowing ourselves as an individual and having that distinction really given to ourselves, then we just become programmed. We just become a tool. Or a tool, nobody wants to be a tool, right? So we have to become, uh, aware of who we are, our own personal creativity. And a lot of that has to do with our personal choices and understanding where those come from. Because some of those personal choices, when we really admit what we really, really want, we may find that some of our desires are different from how we imagine ourselves, or how we identify, or what we think we are. And so there's always this process of seeing how something within us is yet unknown to our conscious identity. We have not priced that in. Who we really are. So we're all going through this process of discovering these little bits and pieces that are unknown to us, identifying with those things, and enlarging a scope for our identity. That's what we do in the ninth house. We enlarge the scope of what we know about ourselves, about the world, because self-views are world views, world views are self-views. We widen the scope of that. So when we get to the tenth house, we are becoming ever more humble, ever more able to admit what we don't know, rather than become concrete in what we do know. So we can become more gentle rather than tyrannical as we go through that process, more compassionate rather than insistent.
So, um, we seek, uh, to go into the blob of Pisces, yes, which is the ultimate, uh, identification with a spirit and the everything. And we're really learning [Music] the beginning of that process of I living a spiritual life, with spiritual path in that ninth house environment. So Mercury is pushing us to ask simple questions, to look more at the facts of how things are. And that may cause us to have to understand the larger scope of the world in a bigger or broader way because we may get back some answers that aren't cognizant of cognitive dissonance. So the cognitive dissonance we experience with Mercury in the ninth house is generally easier to solve because we keep wanting to know more. Well, why is it that I'm uncomfortable with that? Or why is it that that just doesn't sit right with me? Or why is it that I'm pushing back against that? We may fall into a rabbit hole that can actually bring us more security in the long run because we can actually find things to put our hope and our faith in that are more in keeping with reality as it actually is. Because if we are, if we are believing things because it makes us comfortable, that can lead us into very dangerous places. Because we can say, at the most extreme, I am going to jump off this cliff and God will save me. Or I am going to, let's say, somebody, you know, finds himself in a plane crash, I am going to sit here and wait for the fates or for my faith to save me. When really, you need to be stringing a raft together and looking more at how you can have faith in your own abilities, but still have enough wind in your sails because you understand that there are deeper, more spiritual workings going on around us that we really can't understand. So we can marry that belief in something greater than ourselves with our own concrete ability to assess the situation realistically. And then we have both the knowledge of how things actually are, and the optimism and the faith that there may be something unseen or some instinct within us that can help fuel that fire and keep us going and put wind in our sails. So that need for hope can be appropriated in a way that really can help us to have a life that has that has appropriate meanings in it. So we understand how us as the simple machine, have facts as the simple machine, fit into the whole to create stories or to create patterns.
With Mercury going through the ninth house, when we're looking at Venus going through the ninth house, this is a very enjoyable transit. We are indulging more in the beauty of things, good food, culture, [Music] it's a bit excessive, maybe buying more pleasurable activities. Um, we can meet beneficial people, people that can help us out, people who can contribute to our life. Um, it is not the most meaningful, deep transit. Like they would probably get more, more meaning or consequence out of a, even a Mercury transit through the ninth house. But hey, this is something to look forward to because this may be the month that we end up buying offer tickets or something, exposing ourselves to something that brings us some joy that we didn't have before. Um, inviting friends over. It's a very social transit. So we are more involved with social activities, with, um, with connecting with people in our own environment in a way that, in a way that increases the social bonds between the two of us. So we're nurturing community and the good things that come from having common ideas. There isn't anything wrong with having common ideas and beliefs, especially if they're descriptive of what reality might be. There's a lot of reasons to find, um, you know, bonding over, uh, shared ideas and and shared a shared preferences, like, uh, you know, the the food of a culture. Don't you love the food of a culture? It is something that is so unique to that region, to that idea, to what is available in that part of of the world. And it has a lot to do with, you know, ideas about preparation and the belief and the meaning that we give to nature. There's a lot of complexity behind the the foods of cultures. And we are enjoying how we intermingle with each other and and not just the differences between us, but the things that are common. Having common social ideas is important. We need to have room for our individual ideas within that. But if we don't have common social ideas, that we can't agree on very much, we're not even going to be able to agree on what happened. So that's where we are right now, really, throughout the world, because we have this meeting of, um, of, uh, ninth house, eleventh house stuff that's going on, where we have the old ideas of the Age of Pisces, which is the old structure and meaning that we gave to things, coming into a conflict with the Age of Aquarius, which is more the ideas that we give to things based on more what we know now. So how the age of religion, how the age of rationality are colliding. And it isn't that one is more or better than the other, because we need both. The psyche will suffer if we stamp one or the other out. We have this need for common agreements, and those agreements, um, are disintegrating because they don't describe accurately anymore our understanding of reality as it actually appears. So there's a major nihilism that is happening right now. We don't resist the kinds of interactions that can bring us together when we have Venus going through the ninth house, because it's just a period of enjoying what is enjoyable and and being with, not wanting to to challenge the ideas of those around us. So it's kind of like, um, you know, that really good feeling at Christmas time or Thanksgiving, [Music] uh, or when we have a party about a common idea, like my parents' 50th anniversary party, when we all gather about something that is special to us all, that we give a common meaning to. That's good stuff. Those are some of the best traditions that we have. But every once in a while, in society, we're going to update those common ideas because inevitably, we'll come across new information that challenges those ideas, such as when we had the volatile process of coming out of the idea of flat earth into the idea of around the earth. Because at that point, you know, the paradigm, the ideas about self theory, about self and the world, was very much about flat earth. But the, uh, the discovery of more that uranium process, the eleventh house process of, um, extreme challenge to what we already know, a breakthrough that occurs. And sometimes it occurs very violently because it will upset greatly the traditional paradigm that has given hope and meaning. And there's that period of great crisis as we have the new ideas and new interpretations based on the new facts that we found. And those won't be the only facts that we find, because eventually we'll upend our current ideas based on knowing more. There's no end to finding out. So as we find out more, we have to figure that in to how we understand the world. And that can be extraordinarily threatening to some people whose ideas are really based on those old paradigms of, uh, flat earth, or of, uh, the earth, the way I see it, the earth is a mother, because we're going more towards seeing the earth as a mate, or as a wife, as something that we are steward over, rather than [Music] a taker from. So that is a massive shift in idea about personal responsibility. And ninth house transits are preparing us for that idea of a personal responsibility in the tenth house. Sorry, it's my dad emailing me about the house. The personal responsibility that we take in the tenth house, that really ensures our personal security, or it ensures that we will become a tool of either state or religion. So it depends on how we're choosing. How well do we know ourselves? The ninth house transits really can help us to know ourselves.
Having Mars go through the ninth house, we are learning not to get hot under the collar about having our beliefs challenged. We're learning to see how we are not our beliefs. Personally, that the, um, identity politics, reactionary, um, behavior that comes from, uh, you know, feeling like, you know, we have been challenged. And we really look at what is worth fighting for, and is what we're fighting for something that we're thinking about, or we're just reacting to? So we're looking at how are we potentially wasting energy? Because again, that process of efficiency is developing within us, efficient use of our time, of our life, of the allotted time that we have, and the amount of energy that we have to spend. We don't want to waste that, because at the end, that's all we would like to have back. Energy and time. Those are the greatest resources. We're coming to understand that with ninth house, tenth house transits, because we have hot air, expendable energy, and that energy could be harnessed to produce incredible things within a framework or structure, within a reality, a scope. But if it is just put into a hot air balloon, it just goes off. It's not tethered to anything. So it's inefficient. Sometimes it's nice to have those hot air balloon rides, but we always make sure we have some sandbags, and we're not up there forever.
So with Mars going through the ninth house, we are looking at our ego ideas. How is our ego related to our ideas? And do we need to be reactive? When should we be reactive? Because sometimes we do need to legitimately defend what's right, to defend ourselves. But the good amount of the time, a passive or rational response is usually the best response. Going up to battle every time we feel our danders up is going to have us fighting myriad battles, but not winning the war. The war is internal. This internal war between disembodied desires within ourselves, disharmonious ideas about ourselves. So everything should get to be expressed. And that is where we find the core of the chart, that's the self. The ego is one thing, but the self is everything in harmony. That's what we find, what's really in there, what's really driving us. Because there's the conscious idea, but then there's what's going on in the unconscious, things that may not comport with that conscious idea. So Mars is where we are so instinctive that we aren't thinking. And we learn what to actually act on, what is worth going on a mission for. Because not everything is. Because if we want to prove ourselves at every turn, you can actually be used so easily. Because all someone has to do is make you emotional. That's it. And then you will go to war for them. Because there isn't thinking involved. There's just that, "I have to, oh my God, I'm threatened, I have to defend, I must fight." And so we become the ultimate unconscious tool of either religion or the state. So we're learning to breathe with Mars going through the ninth house, and not to pick up that flaming sword, not right away. Sometimes we have to pick it up, not usually. So what triggers us? That's what we're looking at. Because if we're triggered, we're not thinking, we are reacting. So we really start to understand our place in karma. Those planets are going through the ninth house. Mars gives us a real clue. If we get the lesson that, "Oh, I'm furthering by re-enacting, reacting, I'm furthering that karma." That action, you're just picking the ball and tossing it back, rather than even letting it drop and not expending energy, or picking it up and tossing it back in a different direction because it was deliberate. We have to deliberately aim. We have to develop tactics, tact. Mars is not tactful, it's reactive. And he cusses a lot. And then the ninth house are figuring that out, "Oh, how can I control the strength of my opinion, the strength of my reaction? How can I control my mouth?" Sometimes a well-placed cuss word is well advised. But if we use it all the time, it loses its impact. So we're learning to become more useful to ourselves rather than a useful tool of either the past where we come from, religion, or the state. So who are we a soldier for? Because Mars is the soldier, it's an infantryman. Who are we a soldier for? What is worth fighting for? We may find out some things about ourselves that challenge our own beliefs, rather than responding to challenges in the outside world, because that's just a distraction. That's a major distraction of the ego. That's one of the best ways that the ego can hide is, "I'm angry about this," or "I'm offended about this." It's just constant reaction out there, out there, out there. And you never introspect because you never have time. In fact, this is one of the best ways the totalitarian governments keep people from introspection and therefore thinking and acting in a self-responsible way, a way that they're not dependent upon that outside institution. They keep you reacting, reacting, reacting, fighting, divided, divided, divided. React over there, react over there. You never have time to introspect because of all the wars and all the battles and all the arguments. Entertainment is another way. The entertainments of the ninth house, the excesses of the ninth house, the Colosseum, the movie theater, endless entertainment. You cannot introspect if there's so much noise and there's so much fighting, there's so much drama. So the more reactive we are personally, the less time we have and the less energy we have for self-examination and introspection, which leads to self-preservation. It leads to a conservation of our energy and our resources, and proper conservation and understanding and conservatorship of our environment and our world and our planet. So Mars going through the ninth house, um, we may see how our unknown emotional, reactive self is wasting our own time. And that's what we get out of it, hopefully.
Oh, Katie, wasn't that the ninth house thing? So let's talk about Jupiter, uh, now. We're talking about minds being blown. He just blows everything up bigger, doesn't he? So we have useful knowledge and understanding of ourself that can happen with Jupiter going through the ninth house. We can have a useful understanding of our own place in the world. So this is like seeing the red X on the map, the sign that says, "You are here," and then being able to know what that means for us. So we can efficiently and effectively apply our wisdom, our belief about the world, our knowledge about the world, to ourself, to others, because we've achieved an understanding. As Jupiter has gone through the houses, when it gets to the ninth house, hopefully, hopefully we have evolved instead of devolved. If Jupiter gets to the ninth house, we tend to just, uh, recycle our anxieties and our fears. If we have not grown, if we have not evolved, we will recycle the things of the eighth house into the ninth house. We'll double down the things of the eighth and to the ninth. So we'll adopt more ideas about the world and self that are based on not knowing ourselves. The demons that exist inside of ourselves that threaten our conscious idea of ourselves, those are demonic to us because they're not what we want to be. Those are inner enemies. Those are things that we do not love and that we banish from our consciousness. Is so we can really become sick with that with Jupiter in the ninth house if we haven't become more understanding and filled with knowledge and we are just becoming more believing, um, as a result of not examining our fears, not going through that eighth house process of, uh, making the dark light. So we can cooperate more with people who are, um, out of our usual realm of, uh, association. People who might be foreign to us, who, you know, maybe are not from, you know, a foreign culture, but they could just be from a few neighborhoods over, who, you know, just represent even a more slightly different viewpoint, but they're new to us. We are coming in contact with a broader world. We may travel. We may be drawn to ideas that we just hadn't thought of before. So we have more knowledge replacing belief as Jupiter's going through the ninth house. And we could become wiser, we could become dumber. The Dunning-Kruger effect will either drop off or become more of a thing as we have planets going through the ninth house. And the Dunning-Kruger effect is when we have somebody who's stupid who thinks that they're smart. And often it is the dumbest person in the room who assumes that they are the smartest person because they don't understand all there is to know. So we are exposed to more with Jupiter going through the ninth house. We are seeking exposure past our [Music] typical horizon. When we travel, it changes us. Travel itself is an education because it exposes us to different ideas about the world. We go into a culture who gives different meanings to things. We go into a culture who has different customs surrounding different objects, different, uh, different, um, seasons, different ideas about nature. We go into a totally different interpretation of what's real. And that is one of the most exhilarating things that we can do as human beings. We love to travel. Don't a lot of us have a fantasy? The archetypal fantasy is, "I will retire and then I'll have enough money to travel the world." It's like their type of human idea of, "That's how I'll spend my leisure. It'll be exhilarating and fun and exciting to travel and see what there is to see." That's one of the things that we look forward to. The ninth house is what we're looking forward to. So with Jupiter going through that house, we're looking forward to knowing more than we might know now. It's a very hopeful time in our life. We can be drawn to more religious experiences, not so much of the mystical, but as the religious. But hopefully, we are having some experiences that are personal to us. When we're realizing, kind of like we can when we're traveling, we're realizing the individuals within that culture. It creates an understanding. We're having a personal experience with say, somebody who has different ideas, gives different meanings to things. And it isn't abstract to us. We're not seeing them as a creed, we're as a group. We're seeing them as a person. And that really connects us through our common humanity. So we can have this beautiful understanding for these abstract stories and not feel challenged by them. Because as Jupiter's going through the ninth house, we might see the abstraction of our common social stories. We may come to see that we can believe in these things if we understand that they aren't actually real. They are common mythologies. That's one of the reasons that I can feel comfortable as a fairly rational person believing in astrology because it is a symbolic language. There's no actual Neptune, there's no actual Venus. The planets are not actually making us do anything. Astrology can be scientifically disproven, as can any abstract belief system. And if you understand that it is a symbolic language, if you understand that say, resurrection is a symbolic act, it's not a real physical happening, then you can continue to believe in these common social stories because you didn't take it literally. It wasn't something that is tied to your physical self, like, "I must go and defend this." It makes it something that we can nurture and hang on to and put our faith in, because we say, "Yeah, these are ideas, these are common ideas that we use to explain our world." But I, I don't know if I really believe that people can walk on water, but I understand why that is there to bring meaning to my world. So we can retain the spirit of belief as we go through that ninth house environment, and we can bring that to the tenth house and the eleventh house. We can also accept facts and common ideas about the natural world. Those don't have to be dividing. You don't have to have a war here between the abstract, the ninth house, and the things of just the common fact of the eleventh house, the tenth house. It really depends on what are your actual ideas about reality. If you're getting reality confused with hope, then you can't know what to realistically hope for, what to really place your hope in. That can keep you safe and keep you out of trouble. That's what Jupiter is a lot. That's the function of Jupiter is to keep us going, to keep us alive, to keep us willing to wake up for another day, because we have the capacity to understand that we will die. We have the capacity for self-consciousness. And that necessitates this need to believe that we can live to fight another day, we can live to enjoy another day. So that need for religion, that need for meaning, that need for some kind of common social ideal, is a human need. But we need to make sure that that common ideal is based on an understanding that it is not the only ideal. There's many ideas and ideals. There's many abstract common stories that take the myriad facts of our world, of our natural world, and combine them in ways that explain what those facts are, what the things are that we can't know. And we can respect those common stories because we need to have some common stories. But every once in a while, we're going to come up with with this crisis where when we find out more, and it is so different from the common stories that we've been telling ourselves, that the cognitive dissonance is so great that the people who literally, who believe literally in those common human stories, cannot tolerate to have those common stories updated. Then we have conflict. So we made the learning as Jupiter is going through that ninth house that, um, we may be knowing, be coming to know the common facts, getting to know the individual facts. And so our theories aren't going to help us. So, uh, looking how theories that claim a universal validity, uh, they can't always, they don't always comport with the facts. They're not always rational. And it's how we understand those theories that claim some kind of universal validity. Do we understand those theories as explaining the facts? Yes, it explains birth and death, physically? Or is are those theories not so much rational or factual as they are spiritual? As they are abstract?
So let's talk about Saturn going through the ninth house. So this is where our views about life, because Jupiter has gone through, our views about life and what is real are becoming more concrete, more stabilized. Saturn's going through the ninth house. So we're realizing more, how we're realizing what the joke is. With Saturn going through the ninth house, we're starting to get it, starting to get the joke. And that getting of the joke matures. And as we go through this process of the ninth and the tenth and eleventh, we're we're understanding the real rules of the game here, and who makes these rules. So in the ninth house, we're open to knowing more. As Saturn goes through, so that we can increase our knowledge of what the actual parameters of things are, what is the actual, what are the actual defining factors. So we're further understanding the facts of our natural world, and how we fit into that, how we can actually use our energy within the natural world, within the physical parameters, within the material world. What can we actually do here? So we either play the game with great skill and with self-possession, or we are [Music] becoming so blinded by the personal ego, and now the super ego within the ninth house environment, we're becoming so moralistic in our judgments about what is real. I, if we don't understand ourselves, and we're not understanding what we're being used for, if we are becoming more of a tool of either ninth house, eleventh house things, religion, social systems, the state, mass movements, if we're not at that tenth house stage, understanding what is our actual responsibility thing to things here, uh, then we are just becoming ever more an unconscious [Music] tool of whatever forces can harness our emotions. Because when our emotions are harnessed, which is opposite to tenth house things, we are behaving unconsciously. We are not self-possessed. We are possessed by something outside of ourselves, ninth house or eleventh house things. So that's why I'm always stressing personal responsibility. That is the price of freedom. And it comes at a great cost because you have to be prepared to be self-supporting and to not depend on a dogma or a state. That means you stand alone. And psychologically, this can be a true test of being put in a position where we have to, I, we have to say, you know what, where to show and say and admit who we really are, and let the chips fall where they may. So personal integrity is what we develop in the tenth house. And we are on the road to that. We are strongly in that process when we're going through that ninth house environment of transits.
So as Uranus is going through the ninth house, let's talk about this. This is a breakdown of rigid views. Now, as Saturn's gone through the ninth, those rigid views could have accumulated and become more rigid, or they could have become something that's more descriptive of actual reality. Uranus will further that process of breaking down what we thought was right and true. Or we can become more set in our ways, more fascistic. They could become very fascistic with Uranus going through the ninth house, or because we can become very open-minded. It depends on how we are.
Fighting the ideas that are different than what we already knew. So there can be a great deal of cognitive dissonance that happens with Uranus going through the ninth house. And some people will very much resist that. Some people will be okay with that. Um, it's just this process of realizing that, hey, you know what, I don't know everything. I will go on what I know right now, but there may be more, and I may have to price that in as I learn that later. That's a fact. We're always going to be learning more unless we close ourselves off into a box. We get into a Saturn box and we say, "No, nothing comes in, nothing goes out," because that might upset my current paradigm. That's the only way. And and that's a very scary place to be because you have to necessarily fend off anything that's new. It takes a lot of force, a lot of energy to resist because we're standing in a current, standing in a current of life. And Uranus and Saturn, and sometimes Pluto, they all have their different forms of resistance. That resistance takes an enormous amount of energy, and it is extremely inefficient. And what we're learning is the most efficient, effective use of energy. So we flow. We flow. We get into the flow. When we're into the flow, it's effortless. To resist the flow, it takes great energy and effort. So when we give that up and we go with what is, it takes us places to, you know, that we couldn't have imagined. And previous to that, when we're sticking in the mud and we're resisting the flow, we're so terrified of what those changes or those new things may be. But we understand if we go with the flow, that they aren't threatening. Just because something is different, just just because change is on the horizon, doesn't necessarily mean bad. A lot of times changes are very good. Change of scenery, updating an idea as we learn more. So we are, uh, crashing through an old model of ourself and the world. And we can adjust a lot of our work, a lot of our ideas, uh, go back and revise a lot of the things that we thought we knew. So if we are very reactive and we're not going to accept anything new, um, we're going to be wasting a lot of time and energy during this time of Uranus going through the seventh house. This is gonna be, you know, I'm sorry, uh, the ninth house is gonna be about a seven-year period of time. So we need to be open to knowing more. We are doing some radical new scientific experiments with Uranus going through the ninth house, and we may just break our beaker. If we're horrified of that, then we're not going to have very much fun. And this could be a really exhilarating transit. We could, you know, we can come up with all kinds of stuff. We do all kinds of experiments, and the quality of those experiments, um, can be very much proportional to how much we really want to know. So there's a lot of progress. Some people will seek to stop that. Some people will go with it. And we can have a lot of energy blockages if we are resisting it. We can experience more, uh, you know, internal blowouts, issues with our nervous system, neuropathies, um, the energy not getting to all the places that it really needs to get. So we need to think about, uh, how can we open our mind and our system and our nervous system to new jolts, new horizons? It can be very upsetting, but if we just go into it knowing that, you know what, I'm going to not have a real total concrete idea of much during this time. I'm just gonna be really open to knowing things that I didn't know before. And if that upends what I knew, man, so be it. So if we go into it with a more casual attitude that, uh, if I see it, I'll figure it in somehow, and less going into it at with a fearful attitude, then it can make it much, much easier to really see these innovative solutions to problems, come to more innovative ways of handling our time, and I have more ideas about how we can solve or involve ourselves with social problems or social issues. So our leadership ability could be something that, uh, that brings meaning to our life during this period of time.
Katie, did you have a question? Yeah, I, uh, I'm just, uh, I just wanted to say something because this seemed really cool. Um, just as you've been talking about this, I just listened to an interview with RuPaul the other day, and he was talking about, um, this period in his career when he, uh, had just gotten sober and he took a break from show business. And he was talking about, um, uh, he just basically said everything you just said, and he was having Uranus in his ninth house, and it was actually entering his ninth house at that time. He said, um, the way his career took off after that, he was like, you know, I never thought any of this would happen. And the reason it happened was that I gave myself up to a higher power, which like, he gave himself up to letting the universe use him, which is his way of describing it. But it sounds very much like he gave up fighting anything, gave up control. And yeah, he went with the flow. Yeah, yeah, his own creative flow, which is bigger than our ego. It, it uses the ego to express itself. But our, uh, our total creativity is the, um, is all of our voices together because the psyche is like 12 main voices, 12 main needs, and they're learning to harmonize. They're all learning to show up and sing together. And some of us, you know, have an idea that, you know, I'm only as a baritone over here. I'm only a mix of opera and and pop. That's all I am. But what we are is all these 12 very different voices that are learning to sing together. And it sounds like Bohemian Rhapsody. It's a song you never thought all these genres and voices and ideas could fit in, but they do. And it produces something so unique and so awesome that it stands the test of time. Sometimes art does that, doesn't it? I just reread Dune. It stands the test of time. So yes, Katie, the movie just came out today. As soon as I wrap up here, I'm going to watch it with my son this evening. Very excited about that brand new Dune movie. Should be, uh, something that sparks a lot of people's imaginations.
So let's talk about Neptune going through the ninth house. Uh, this can be about a 14-year process of really losing our direction, uh, massive erosion of what we used to give our meanings to and put our faith in. And it takes a long time. It's not going to happen overnight, but we can have certain experiences within that 14-year period of time, depending on how big your ninth house is. The typical transit through a house or sign is going to be about 14 years. There can be, you know, encounters or experiences that are more acute within that time frame that will be the basis of our old ideas eroding and new ideas, meanings, comforts, direction being given to things. So we may feel that as we go through a crisis of faith, things are very out of focus. We can't see the red X on the mall sign that says, "You are here." We can kind of see it, kind of, but it's like really foggy and out of focus. And as the time goes on, it will come into focus, but it will be slightly different from where it was before. You are somewhere else. You're still here, but you're in a slightly different place of understanding. So our perspective melts down over a longer course of time and is replaced with something that is more updated, something that is more descriptive of our actual reality. So there's a segway between the old and the new. Uh, because that old egoic viewpoint, things that were based on personal ideas exclusively, personal or egoic ideas, we see more outside of that. We see more what might be the collective idea, what might be the more cohesive idea, what might be more real. And we see our place in things more, our viewpoint in the larger scope of viewpoints. So the personal ego can become less of a driving force in how we see the world, the meanings we give to things. We can also see how our own inflation of ourselves was really responsible for our larger interpretation of reality. And that can be really humiliating when we see that. But over the course of time, we we can replace those old outdated meanings and ideas and beliefs with things that actually make more sense, that are more based on a broader spiritual rather than materialistic understanding, an understanding of ourselves more of a more of a cosmic being, a spiritual being, more than just a more than just a bag of bones. We are something, uh, something more.
Let's talk about Pluto going through the ninth house. So this is where we have certain crises that will invalidate some of our current beliefs. These could be crises of faith. Could be somebody dying in our life. Could be loss. Oftentimes, it's loss or death that will call into question our ninth house meanings. And will we be able to find comfort in the things that we have faith in? Will it really be able to be a balm to the worst that can happen to us? Sometimes what we have faith in is put to the test when we go through crises. And sometimes all that we have faith in, what we have faith is all that we have when we go through a crisis. So we may lose that faith due to crises, and that's a double, that's a double Debbie Downer when that happens because not only do we have the crisis, but we don't have the crutch to help us deal with it. We don't have the old framework to help us deal with that. So we become more knowledgeable of the you, the first, the y o u niverse, how the universe emanates from inside of us. So the dark can become light. And this is going to be a long ass process because Pluto could spend up to 20 years or more in a house. This will be something that is a drawn-out meltdown and then a rebuilding. So we won't recognize ourselves when it comes from one end to the other, when it goes in and comes out of this house because there's a radical change in the kinds of the kinds of mystical or religious experiences that we encounter. They will touch our inner being. They are not common encounters. These are the kinds of encounters that fundamentally change us. They don't convert us to a system. They convert us personally. They convert a part of ourself that was previously not part of the group. They convert that part of ourself to the common pursuit of the self, so of an internal religious experience. So we seek, especially in modern times, occult experiences, mystical experiences, spiritual experiences rather than so much the religious experiences because those types of occult experiences are personal to us. They aren't something that come through a hierarchy. They don't come through a status. They don't come through, they'll come through a priest or the only one who can interpret the ancient text. They are available to all of us. So in a sense, it's really going back to our roots. So we're drawn to know who we are through the experience of certain rites, practices, um, there's a better word for that, uh, initiations. That's a great one, Katie. Absolutely. We find initiatory experiences within the ninth house. And, um, we're learning what is the source of all of that. So looking at, uh, how belief springs from those personal desires, understanding belief in the context of personal actions and personal desires. So there's a big scope of understanding that can come with this.
