Most men hear these men ain't and get defensive. Mine heard it and stayed. He doesn't agree with everything I say in this series, but he never tries to silence me. And that's the difference.
Most men hear a woman speak from her pain and make it about themselves. He doesn't flinch. He listens. Not to be praised, but because he understands that love requires witness. He doesn't need to relate to every word. He knows it's still my truth.
And when he hears me say, "These men ain't shit," he doesn't argue because he knows I'm not talking about him. I'm talking about the men who broke me before he ever touched me. The fathers who left, the sons who weren't raised, the silence that taught me to shrink. And instead of trying to explain it away, he holds me through it. Not with words, not with ego, with presence, with accountability, with love that isn't afraid of my fire.
So, no, he's not the reason that this series exists. He's the reason why I can keep creating it and still believe in men. These men ain't shit. But mine, he's proof that some of y'all are finally learning.
