A message by Reverend Robert Morgan presented at the Waiting on God, April 5th, 1976, entitled "The Attributes of a King."
Ray, just a moment there. Jesus, again we come now asking for a new anointing from heaven and for divine illumination upon the word. Speak to our hearts, I pray, in Jesus' name.
This last holiday trip that the Lord gave me the privilege to gave us the privilege to be his brother, Helm, we went into the King's Palace in Versailles. And for the first time in my life, I got a picture of what it meant to have Jesus as a King. I was amazed that I could live this long. I knew what a king was. King sat on a throne and to have a palace and have lots of wealth, and that I knew that was a king. But I never saw a king. I never saw Jesus as my King like I did when I walked into that palace in Versailles. That was worth the whole trip. To walk into that palace that one day through that pass was worth every penny that trip cost, just to be in that room. Oh, that one trip. Did I praise God then? He gave me that privilege to walk in that palace because I saw Jesus in a night I've never seen him before. Wonderful.
So I wanted someone on reef you first the scripture in St. John's Gospel, the eighteenth chapter and the beginning of the 33rd verse. What is that scripture, brother? St. John's Gospel, the 18th chapter. Thank you. Beginning with the 33rd verse says, "Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, saying, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it of me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. And Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? And Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world."
May the Lord add his blessing to the reading of his precious word. Yes.
Jesus, as I said, when I walked into that palace, I got an entirely new conception of a king. And this, I feel, is very difficult for us in America because we have been born in a democracy. We've never had a king over us. And I have a feeling that many times we as Christians, it's difficult for us to recognize what a king is. Yes, we're in the habit of getting the majority together, whether it's politics or a church, and vote on what we want, and the majority rules. But that is not the kingdom of God. That is not Jesus. Jesus is a king.
And the first thing I noticed in that palace, thought of is that a king is born a king. You don't, you don't vote him in office or vote him era. And Jesus is a king by virtue of his birth. We didn't vote him a king. He was born a king. Yes, sir. And we can't get together and by a majority vote, vote him in. Around that's right. I'm thankful for that. Doesn't make any difference what vote is taken in America or any church or democracy or the United Nations. He is a king. He's born a king. He'll be for every king and nobody will vote him out. True. He's their king. He's there to stay. That's it.
And another thing I noticed about a king is that he's a dictator. Yes, yes, sir. And there's something he's a dictator. That's right. That's true. Now, we don't like that term. But they tell me the most efficient government in the world is a dictator, if you've got the right one. Here's the one, and he is the right one. Oh, yeah. Here he is. He truly is. Now, if a dictator's our own kind, we've got the wrong kind. But Jesus is the right one. So we've got the best government in the world is a dictator. He doesn't call a council in and say, "Well, brethren, what do you think?" He knows. And yours. Oh, yeah. Oh, God says, "I need him." The whole ego. I believe the Holy Ghost. Laughing. We don't tell him. He tells us. With a dictator, you never walk in and give him counsel. He gives it to you. Oh, indeed, indeed. He is in charge. He is an authority. Jesus is the king. He tells us. He is dictator. He tells us. But we have the best kind there is. And his counsel is always right. And therefore, we never walk into his presence and say, "Lord, I believe I'm going to do this." We say, "What do you want me to do?" Oh, yes. I've learned. I've been striving to do that. So Jesus is a dictator.
Another thing that I noticed about a king was that you never give a king anything but the best. You never give a king anything but the best. Always. Oh, I tell you, if you had ten sheep, you'd pick out the best one you had. If you were going to give it to a king, you'd give him the best that you had. You never would give him leftovers or anything of anything of the kind. He would get the best that you had. Yes, we saw clock in there that's some of the workmen had made. And I tell you, they worked. Those men worked to bring the king the finest that it was possible to make to give to a king. If we could see this of Jesus, that we would never give him anything but the best. Oh, yes. Oh, anything but the best. Yes. Oh, God can help us not give him leftovers. Let's not give him anything that was shoddy. If we're going to sing, want it to be the best. If we're going to preach, want it to be the best. If we're going to do anything for God, if we're going to give money, we want it to be the best. We're going to give him time, we want it to be the best. We wanted him to have the choice of our time. Yes. How many times got to get the leftovers of time, of town, of money, everything he gets what's left. But he's a king. He ought to get the best of everything that we have. Must well.
Another thing I noticed about a king was that any king that asked any workmen to do anything. When I walked in that palace, I saw all that beautiful artwork in those ceilings, masterpieces of paints and all the go surrounded by gold. And I walked up to one of the guides and I thought, "I sure they must be gold paint. There was so much gold all over everything." And I said, "Is that gold paint?" Said, "No, that's gold leaf around all the pictures and down the walls and everywhere." But in all those masterpieces of paintings. And then I saw something else. And that is the way she told it and spoke of it, that when the king asked anybody to do anything, he considered it a privilege to do anything for a king. See, this is something. Even King asked an artist to do any painting. He didn't say, "Well, I tell you, fellas, I don't know. I've got to go up and do something for the king." Oh, no. He said, "It's a privilege to do anything for a king." That making their words what it was. He asked you always considered it a privilege. Oh, yeah. Oh, if we could see that of Jesus and do anything instead of saying, "Oh, well, I guess I've got to go up. We're going to have to put everything inside and get out the waiting or going to have to make another trip the whole day and we're going to have to do this." If Jesus asked us to do it, if we could consider it a privilege for anything that Jesus asked us to do. It's never a duty. Never a burden. It's a brave. 800. Oh, this has been wonderful. Everything. It asked me to do anything. Anything else me to give any place. Yes. But it go. It's a privilege because he's a king. Yes, or I found it true. Oh, if gossipy, I tell you that take all the murmuring, all the grumbling out of salt, complaining like, "Oh, I've got to do that." It would be any. The king gave me the privilege to do this. Row here. He's giving me a privilege. Go the hole. He just gave me the privilege to go down here and do something. He, it's a privilege. My brethren, Jesus is a king. Yes. Not to be a privilege for anything that he should ask us to do. Oh, would to God I could get completely in my own heart that is privileged to do anything for a king. So pray, sir.
Project something else that impressed me. Our dear little guide said that in King Louis the Fourteenth and that palace, there, she said there were there were those that respected and loved the king so much that they were willing to stand for hours just the hope he may come by and give them a smile. Think of this. Willing to stand for hours just to get a smile out. That's yes, sir. From the king. Yes. If men and women are willing to do that for an earthly king, to stand for hours to get a smile. Uh-huh. And some of us may grumble, complain if we've got to stay in here for an hour for the kingdom of God, something that's eternal. Yes, sir. There's been people that felt badly trying to say, "I would understand why average day one one hour like this, and that's something." But they'd stand for hours just not even do anything, just having a smile. But they would bad. Well, we were standing for Jesus. Oh, yeah. Let it be wonderful if at the end of an hour, we can still all be smiling. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Because he's the king. If he says "San Fran" or to get his smile, we ought to. We could still be smiling at the end of an hour. Oh, indeed. Wouldn't that be wonderful? That's we got by. Jesus is our King. Oh, it's hard first to get that in mind. We've lived under democracy so long. The way get together, have majority rule, and we want to make a decision. If God speaks through our brethren, we don't like it. As a majority, which we have some rise up within us, you see, and we feel like we want to do it our way. But he's the king. If he to do what everything. Oh, yeah. Yes, yes. So they stood forever. Another thing that I noticed about a king was, and I marveled at this. We went into his bedroom. There was a rail there where he had a little section there where his bed was. And on this other side, our little guide told us that I think it was from 20 to 25 nobles would sit there all night waiting for the privilege to wait on him. If he woke up and wanted anything, they set their all night for the privilege to wait on him, whether it was to get his wig or get us some shoes. So somebody would for every little desire that he had for that privilege. 20 to 25 nobles sat there all night for the privilege to wait on a king. This Jesus is a king. Yes, yes. It's been my king for. But oh, how many times we want to treat him like we do our governors and other things and presidents. And if we don't like it, we'll get a vote and vote him out. Yes, sir. Thank God he's a king. We didn't vote him in. We all vote him out. He's the perfect King. And would to God we could love him like people loved Louis XIV. I know he wasn't the right kind of a king and was eventually overthrown. But Jesus is the right one. He's a red one. Yes, sir. Those people never cross that line. They do. They respected his authority as king, but sat there to wait for every little biddings that he may have. Yes.
Well, my brethren, something else I noticed about a king, and that is that his subjects wanted to be like him. Yes. If he wore a wig, they wanted to wear wood. Yes, sir. If he wore high heels, they wanted to wear high heels. Yeah. If he drank cocoa, they wanted to drink cocoa. Down in Paris, they were all drinking cocoa. Why? The king likes to drink cocoa. We want to drink it too. Why? You my heels? The king wears them. Why? You wearing a wig? The king wears. We want to be like him. Wouldn't it be wonderful? Wicked want to be like T's. There's so much we'd like to talk like him, like to dress like he mic, to go where he'd go, like to do what he do, like to say what he'd say. What he's our King. We like to me like him. Oh, indeed. Hallelujah. They wanted to be like their King. Yes, sir. Because he liked to drink cocoa, they all wanted to drink cocoa. Isn't that something? It is. Oh, I would to God we could see what a king is. And one, and he's so far beyond an earthly king. My, oh my, oh my, oh my. True. Yes.
Well, I'm thankful to Jesus. As I said, is the right kind of a king. Yes. He's the one we don't have to worry about. If we could respect him as such and have let him have this authority over us, it's an absolute dictator. And I love him. Now, these some of these earthly kings were not that way. But Jesus is the right kind of a king. Oh, that we could treat him as a king, worship him as a king, obey him as a king, give the best to him as a king, wait on him as a king, do all of this. What could he do with us if we treat him like a king? Thank God for Jesus, the King, King of my heart, King of all the witness of the holy to God. Oh, that God qudoos. I'm trusting that Jesus also cleanse my own heart that I'll be wanting and waiting to do every little bidding. This is the desire of my heart of being at these waiting so that Jesus can be complete, absolute ruler and dictator of my heart. Oh, yeah. There'll be nothing there but just for him, as it is true. Right. Well, that's the way they cry the high. Well, I believe that's just these little words about a king. Right. So long.
