Be the master of meaning, and you're the master of your life. And to be a master of meaning, you must find the empowering meaning, not the disempowering one. If you get nothing from me the entire weekend but that and you apply it, your whole life will change. I'm going to say it again. Become the master of meaning.
You become the master of meaning when you find an empowering meaning. And no matter what happens, my mother was the most empowering thing in my life. I truly honor her. I love her to this day. I love her spirit and her soul. I did not love all her behavior. Some of it was unjust and unfair, but it worked out pretty good for me 'cause I decided to find the empowering use of it. If I'd not, I'd be a victim, and I sure as hell wouldn't be here talking to you about it. I'd be talking with my friends, and they'd be affirming me, and I wouldn't accomplish in my life.
So, you are the master of your meaning. So every day you've got to stand guard to the door of your own mind, noticing what you're letting in and what you're believing, 'cause the culture will train you to the lowest denominator. 'Cause the culture is made of people that are not happy, that are not fulfilled in relationships, that are not physically well, who are not really successful financially. That's most people. I'm not stupid, but it's not how everybody needs to be. Here doesn't need how you.
