Transits for the 12th house, the infamous 12th house. Uh, it's always a fun one to talk about, um, because it is the house of, uh, self-defeat and of losses, uh, reflection. And it represents the ending of our, our personal year when a planet goes through the 12th house. So our personal cycle, or the, the way that the planets have, um, worked on us in a more cyclical fashion. Because say, if we have, uh, Jupiter, Saturn, um, transiting through the 12th house, it really is going to represent the culmination of some very important cycles. So it's the end of the season when it comes to our particular chart when a planet transfers to the 12th house, because it's getting ready to transit the ascendant and go through the first house, which is where we have the birth of the new cycle, the new seed.
So, so interesting to talk about the 12th house because it is the house of self-undoing. And a lot of people really aren't clear about the types of enemies that the 12th house describes. Because we often associate it with hidden enemies, and that doesn't necessarily mean that those are people like hiding in the bushes or, um, in places where we, we can't see them. They, it's more abstract than that. It's people, situations, conditions that can bring us a type of karma or consequence that we didn't see coming. And that is because the types of behaviors that are described by the 12th house are often unseen to ourselves. We are ignorant of them. We are ignorant, ignorant of them. We don't want to know. So the more that we resign ourselves to wanting to know as a planet goes to the 12th house, the better off we are going to be. The more we hide, the worse off it is.
All planets going through the 12th house transit. All of them are working to bring the, uh, the bottom to the top. So you have to look at it like degrees of depth. So when we have planets going through the 4th, 8th, 12th, the water houses, these are some of the more difficult transits because these are dealing with the underpinnings of things. Anything in a water house, anything associated with water is feelings and unconscious things. It's the depth. It's, it's what is underneath the surface. So we have degrees of depth. We have the, uh, fourth house deep stuff. We have the eighth house even deeper. And then things that happen in the 12th are at the bottom of the ocean. So you have to look at transits in the, at the 12th house like a giant propeller, the biggest propeller on the planet. And it churns up what is at the very, very bottom. It churns up all of the sediment, all the wreckage, all the bones, all the bits and the pieces. All of that gets churned up to the top. So to the degree that we want to acknowledge those things, we will see that rising to the top. It will look like debris. It will look like garbage. But when we look at it closely, those are aspects of our own self that are either unknown, disowned, judged, uh, they have a guilt or justification surrounding them. So we have our unknowns churning to the surface by the propeller of the motion of the planets.
So all planets going to the 12th house have that job of churning and having us come to realize how our, uh, how our unconscious and our activities driven by our unconscious motivations, things that are unknown, unseen to us, unrecognized, unowned, how all of that is running counter to or interplaying with our conscious self, our intentions, what we want. So how are we working against ourselves? How is the undercurrent different from the overcurrent? So you're not like a riptide. How that works? Well, we'll have the water more on the surface in its regular motion, but then we'll have some energy, some water beneath that that comes in a different direction. It can carry you away. That's what we're looking at is what kind of riptide do we have going on? Because we can want to be here, but find ourselves over here because of unconscious motivations that we are unaware of.
So the 12th house is the house of self-undoing. It's how we sabotage ourselves. And the different planets going through the 12th house are going to point that out specifically. When we have the Sun going through the 12th house, we are shining a light on those unconscious processes. It's about a month of more intense self-reflection regarding motivations. What have we done in the past? We can be feeling rather guilty about unresolved things. We're looking at how is our intentional and unintentional self actually working here? It's actually quite an interesting month because we can feel more, uh, more contrite about some of the things that we've done. It's, uh, uh, often a time where we are either losing faith in ourselves or going through a process of, um, allowing some amount of recognition of shame into our consciousness. So we can, we can atone for that. We can, we can live with it. We can recognize it, and then we can move on. Because what we aren't recognizing is that riptide. It's that undercurrent that's taking us in a different direction. So we shine a light on what, what we have done, even though it wasn't intentional. What we have engaged in, even though we didn't have a conscious plan about how that was going to turn out, but it turned out negatively anyway. So the, um, the saying, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." That's the bumper sticker that we are driving around with while the Sun is going through the 12th house. And just looking at that, how is it that out of good intentions, we did somebody wrong or we did ourselves wrong?
So, um, when the Sun and the Moon, the Moon is very grief, but either one of them, Mercury as well, is going through the 12th, we're looking pretty hard at the outdated coping skills that we have, that we have unconsciously brought with us into adulthood. So we all needed to survive in a confusing world as children. We developed survival skills and coping skills that at the time were the best that we could do. And we tend to drag those with us through life. And as we go along, we get to know ourselves better and better and start to be able to predict ourselves better and better because we start to see the unseen. We start to understand the things that we didn't know that we didn't know. Um, we can shed those outdated responses, those, uh, outdated coping skills, which actually are the seeds of karma. They are the, uh, unknown hatchings of the past. This is a very karmic house, the 12th house. And this is where we're coming to see that what we haven't been able to take responsibility for may be eating us alive. We can just be eaten alive by things.
Planets in the 12th house, weakening conditions that occur as a result of aspects of Neptune or being in the 12th house. Um, we are eroded away. And often it can be our physical health, it could be our mental, our emotional health, it could be our moral health that's eroded away by the inability to acknowledge who we are and what our actions are, what is the fact of the thing. So there's, um, a dispassionate perspective that we may be able to come to. The kind of perspective that only somebody who leaves the atmosphere can see. Where when you look at the world from that point of view, when you look at your own inner world, because when we open our eyes, we are actually looking into our own psyche. We're looking into how our brain interprets our particular environment through our senses. So what we're learning to understand is that what we're seeing is our, our world. It is our understanding. It is our perspective. And so we achieve a greater perspective by understanding the nature of perspective. With planets going through the 12th, and this could be one of those aha moments we have with the Sun going through the 12th house, that, oh, oh, oh, okay. So oftentimes interpretation of truth or what happened is very much related to perspective. And we can gain a greater perspective of ourselves by understanding how having compassion for those differences in perspective can help us to understand other people. And as much as we come to understand ourselves, that translates to being able to understand other people on that same level. We cannot understand people at a higher level than we understand ourselves. That's why it's fine. It's always a good idea to find a very old therapist.
So with the Sun, we are looking at how have we worked against ourselves, as with all planets going through the 12th house. But with the Sun, it can be a particularly guilty, uh, several weeks, about a month, that we can really be looking at, "Oh, why did I do that?" or "I can't believe that I made that choice. I would never make that choice now." And looking at what was behind that. And do we need to forgive ourselves? Forgiving ourselves is a big part of stuff going on in the 12th house. To the degree that we don't forgive ourselves, we punish ourselves. And that's where that self-undoing can also come from. We can act in ways that belie that guilt and that penchant for self-punishment. And that is not helping us to get the kind of life that we're looking for, the kind of life that we're consciously looking for. So we have to look within, uh, with the Sun going through the 12th house, as we do with all the planets going through the 12th.
Let's look at the Moon. A very brief time, just a few days, thank God, that the Moon goes through the 12th house. It is a time when we are less engaged with the world at large. We may want to go, um, you know, more of, you know, more for a day of retreat. We don't have quite as much activity, or we may even just not have any activity. I've noticed on days when the Moon is going through my 12th house, I tend to spend all that time in my garden. And that's always a peaceful and restorative activity. So that's what we're looking for is restoration when the Moon is going through the 12th house. So less loud noises, less engagement altogether may be a good time to get a babysitter and go somewhere by yourself. Um, some people can feel that it's harder to, uh, to sleep if we have unresolved things. It's harder to, to let go when it comes to laying down and really having a clear mind. So guilt is a big part of that 12th house environment. And if we have planets in the 12th house, Natalie, perhaps difficult aspects to Saturn or Neptune, we can, some of us, wrestle with more guilt than others. It can make it, uh, a bit harder to just drop off to sleep at night. It can also be more likely that we will feel less, less trustful of the people around us in our intimate situations. Our antennas can be up. And sometimes that is not completely legitimate because a lot of times what people are sensing in others is their own stuff. And the more people are unconsciously identified with other people, the more they tend to attribute their own feelings and intuitions to other people. Like, "I know what this person is thinking and feeling." You know, "I met their dead grandmother." And it's all self-projection. But there are people who have a genuine clarity, but that's after they reach up that other side of having, having come to know themselves enough and developed enough self-awareness, or they realize the barrier between themselves and others. And at the same time, realize the nature of the seeming barrier. So they, they have themselves, uh, individuated. They're not attributing their own feelings and desires. And they're not projecting upon the other person. They have the ability to know, uh, what's mine, what's yours. That brings that clarity of intuition. Otherwise, things are a big jumble.
So with, uh, with any planet going through the 12th house, we're parsing that out. We're getting, uh, more clear about what's mine and what's yours. So we do have more of an ability to actually know what is legitimately going on with other people because we're not attributing, projecting our own feelings or attributes onto them. So we can deal with some distrust, but a lot of times that's our own stuff. With the Moon going through the 12th house, let's look at, oh, Mercury. I gotta have myself or behind myself. Okay.
So Mercury transiting to the 12th, or not as much of a chatterbox as we can typically be. Uh, some people are less inclined to share altogether with Mercury transiting through the 12th house. It's easier to think things through and process things, I'd say more on a personal level, rather than to just come out with it. It's not as likely that we will reach better conclusions or solve our problems or get to know ourselves better through a conversation. It's more about turning inward. So it's like a super, super Mercury retrograde in the birth chart. How this acts, um, we're definitely going to think before we speak. And a lot of people are avoiding conversation, avoiding, um, contact with Mercury going through the 12th because there's a fear of confrontation, a fear of perhaps not being able to have the right words, not being able to to win the argument. So we want to look at why it is we are retreating. Oh, that's funny, Naomi. Yeah, it is a bit of a fearful transit. It kind of feels like when we're going into a debate, we know that we may be outmatched by a fairly aggressive opponent. It makes it less likely that we're gonna go gung-ho about things. So it can be a little bit more, uh, difficult to express ourselves in general because that expression is more, um, the communication, uh, how we express ourselves through communication, it's just more geared toward reflection rather than outright conversation. So it's a good time for us to go on vacation. It's a good time for us to, uh, plan to do less work, to retreat more, and to give ourselves time to come to different, uh, methods of solving problems by sitting on things, by sleeping on it, by turning it over, not so much by getting advice from outside sources. So our thinking, our study, my reflection tends to happen more in the company of our, our the quieter people in our life, cats. Cats are always a good one. And in places where we have more time for reflection. I, oh, one more thing I want to add. I forgot to add this in my notes, but I will. It just occurred to me. We do want to watch out with Mercury going through the 12th that we are not, uh, talking, um, talking about others or discussing others in ways that could be gossipy. We want to be careful not to, to talk behind other people's backs. That's something we can, we can, we can create unnecessary trouble, unnecessarily trouble for ourselves if we are having private conversations, um, you know, just between a couple of us about the lot of us or about a few of us. So we don't want to expose ourselves to, uh, being seen as, uh, gossipy or as, um, uh, subversive in some way. Because that's the nature of Mercury in the 12th house is that we're not inclined to have as many, you know, loud or extroverted or outgoing conversations. So it is more likely that we'll pull people aside or we'll have conversations more just between us and another. And we want to be careful about that. Simply because Mercury does rule the sixth house, the opposing house of co-workers and of everyday environments. And it is, uh, the planet of gossip. And coming through the 12th house of hidden things, undoings, um, sometimes backstabbing behavior, we just want to be careful that we aren't being misconstrued and that we aren't outright gossiping as well. That's something we can get into, um, without really understanding the consequences of that. So I have to be careful, um, how we're talking and who we're talking about, and the style of that. Just make sure that, um, we're being more public about, uh, what we're sharing.
Let's talk about Venus in the 12th house. Uh, Venus going through the 12th is not a bad thing, actually. As planets through the 12th house go, I mean, most planets through the 12th are a little rough. Venus in the 12th is actually okay. Um, to the degree that you can handle your selflessness or your need to help or assist. If you already have planets in the 12th house, then you may need to control your penchant for helping out, giving selfless behavior. That's pretty much what's called for with, uh, Venus in the 12th house, a selfless giving behavior. And some of us, some people can already wrestle with that. So, um, a lot of us do need to pitch in a little bit more and do need to extend ourselves. And to some of us, you know, maybe not so much. But yeah, Venus in the 12th can be a financially rough time. I think we had a comment about that. Yes. The 12th house is itself the drain because it is the end, it's the death of the old cycle there. But that means it opens the door to the new cycle when planets go through the first house. And it's like, "Oh, I can finally breathe again. I'm alive." So, uh, yeah, we can die in the 12th and resurrect in the first. And Venus going through the first, that is, uh, much more positive for social relationships and for finances as well. But that can be a bit, uh, a bit dry with Venus going through the 12th. We may be spending a lot more. There's, can be a lot more that's outgoing, a lot of losses with Venus going through the 12th house. Um, you have to unexpected things that we feel, you know, it has to be done. It's kind of a waste of money. Like when you're doing a house renovation and you find out that the pipes have to be redone before you can actually complete the renovation. You're like, "Oh, I hate having to spend this $30,000. I can't even be seen." That kind of stuff. So we have to, um, uh, well, we have to spend unexpected money. Oftentimes, can it initiate affairs or unlock the doors to a romantic affair? Um, so as we've talked about Venus going through the houses, I have tried to include that topic. Whatever, you know, if we do have a relationship that begins with Venus in a particular house, it does tend to have that flair or that meaning. Um, so, um, romantic relationships, dating relationships that are initiated with Venus in the 12th house, we do want to be careful about those because things in the 12th may not materialize. Um, so we're looking at, we're looking at people differently and things differently as Venus goes into the first house. So we want to be careful about what we do initiate because this is not a house of initiation. This is not a house of beginnings. This is a house of endings. So it doesn't mean that things can't be successful. There will be a, a clarifying wake-up as Venus goes into the first house. And sometimes that can, um, that can cause us to drop or lose what it is that was begun. And sometimes it can cause us to readjust things now that we can see things a little bit more for what they are. Just depends on what the situation and condition is. Um, but we want to be careful because relationships can have more of an affair or a hidden tone to them, um, if they are initiated with Venus going through the 12th house. Um, we are actually receiving more spiritual rewards and spiritual payoff with Venus going through the 12th house, a karmic payoff, than a financial payoff or a sensually or materialistically satisfying kind of payoff. So the, the karma that we're receiving while Venus is going through the 12th house is, um, the kind that can bring the ideal kind of satisfaction that we're all striving to achieve, the ultimate satisfaction. And that doesn't mean that we're going to be like, "Oh, I'm a, I'm a breatharian now. I never have to eat again." It's not that dramatic. It's more like, um, we just realized that, uh, the kinds of, the kinds of rewards that are most impressive, that are the most lasting, their spiritual rewards. They are, um, inner rewards. So we get for what we have given, we receive a karmic or, um, karmic slash spiritual payoff, payoff for payout with Venus going through the 12th house. So even though we may have less money in our material bank account, we have more money in our spiritual bank account, in our moral bank account. Because that feeling of being morally correct with ourselves, that leads to enormous payoffs. Because we will then act that out. We don't have to continue to go back and redo or realize that we're engaged in self-sabotage. Or because we are right with ourselves. And that's what we're doing with all planets going through the 12th, as we're becoming right with ourselves. And when we're right with ourselves, it's easier to sleep at night. We don't wake up in the early hours of the morning, and we can just drop off right away. This is the house of sleep. The 12th house. The quality of our sleep has a lot to do with our guilt and the unforgiven, unknown, unfavored parts of ourselves. So with Venus going through the 12th, we are receiving a type of money, but it is money that you can't see, and it lasts longer. You can't take it from us, and it enriches our lives in unseen ways. So Venus going to the 12th actually can be a very good transit. But you just have to make sure you aren't giving too much of yourself if you're already prone to that, because that creates the kind of karma that we don't want, that's more about selfishness. And if we're being more truly selfless, then we get the good stuff.
So let's talk about Mars in the 12th house. Interesting transit. Mars is naturally the ruler of the first, so he's semi-sextile, uh, to the 12th. So Mars doesn't, um, uh, have much in common at all, nothing in common with the 12th house. Very fiery, assertive, aggressive planet, and it's coming into a watery, subtle, compassionate area of life. So we are really having to look at how our own aggression and our own anger has blocked our own efforts. How have we sabotaged our own self through selfishness? And how have we, how we kept ourselves from winning? So with Mars in the 12th, we're looking at self-defeat. Because Mars is where we want to win. And when it's in the 12th house, it is in the house of self-undoing. So we're looking at, and this could be a little period of time, get up, a matter of months here, that we could sit on this and really look at, um, how have I kept myself from getting what I want? Our self-defeating attitudes, that's a big thing to look at. So, uh, if we've undermined ourselves, then we need to know that, because that's, uh, that's a hole we've got to plug. And we can try to redouble our efforts with Mars in the 12th house. That doesn't work much because if we're just pushing ourselves harder, it's like we haven't gained anything. We don't know anything more. We don't, we haven't developed any new tactics. So there's, there's no point to trying to push ourselves with Mars going through the 12th house until we know something more. And then we have to incorporate that. We become more of a tactician with Mars in the 12th house. So we can, um, cause some issues for ourselves with Mars in the 12th if we are confronting other people without having all of the information. We can experience other people working against us and wanting to take us out because we'll feel like, um, well, they'll feel like we are, uh, you know, we are not being completely upfront or, uh, we're being inappropriately aggressive. So other people may work against us when we have planets in the 12th house, particularly Mars, but that's in response to how we have initially behaved. So we have to be careful about, uh, wrong impressions. We have to be careful about projecting ourselves in a way that was not intentional. And if we see that other people are giving us a hard time or we feel like they aren't plotting against us or we can see that they are working against us, many, many times we need to, we need to confront the situation by explaining ourselves. We need to win by becoming very clear and explaining, meaning being above board, uh, being plain about what we actually were doing and meaning and thinking, what was actually going on with us. So we can have confusing confrontations that can occur with Mars in the 12th. So we want to look at how are any secret enemies that seem to be revealing themselves related to anything that we may have, uh, done or engaged in. So we can, we can defuse the situation through honesty and just through being very plain. Um, we have to confront our self. We have to confront our own, um, hiddenness with Mars going through the 12th house. And to the degree that we can do that, we are setting ourselves up for, um, a cycle with Mars going through the first house of asserting ourselves in a more, um, there's, in a more clean, spontaneous way. So it's like we are closer to knowing ourselves all the better. So when we go to make a move, when we go to respond, when we go to act, it's with confidence. So knowing ourselves better puts us in a position where we don't, you know, have that moment where we're going to throw that spear. Because Mars is our hunting skill. It's how we secure that right to live, to eat. And we don't want to pull that spear back and then start thinking, "Oh God, should I do this?" And questioning ourselves. And, "Oh, I don't know. Maybe I should be a vegetarian." And all of these different, uh, analysis paralysis or thoughts swimming through our head that can get in the way of that proper timing. We're enjoying the benefits of proper timing and the karma that comes with proper timing and self-assertion. It's Mars, guys, is going through the first. So we're preparing for that as Mars is going through the 12th house. So this can be a transit where we aren't letting that spear go for a while because we are overthinking, or we are feeling guilty, or we are stepping on our own toes. So examining self-sabotage when Mars goes through that 12th house.
Let's look at Jupiter in the 12th house. This is actually not a bad place. Well, yeah, for Jupiter or for Venus, it's not really a bad transit for either one of those. Um, Jupiter's actually pretty comfortable in the 12th house. And, um, Venus has a good association with Pisces in the 12th as well. So we are, um, developing forgiveness for ourselves with Jupiter going through the 12th house, more compassion for ourselves. We're more able to see some of our foibles and sins and shortcomings in a way where, where we may forgive ourselves for that. It's the end of a 12-year cycle with Jupiter going through the 12th house. He spends about a year in each sign. And we are, we're finding more meaning in higher things, the inner workings of life, spirituality. Can it be a time for religious findings when Jupiter goes to the 12th? Absolutely. Jupiter going through the 9th or the 12th is quite famous for that. Neptune through the 9th as well. Uh, yeah, Jupiter in the 12th. Some people can't even find organized religion to be something that works for them or convert either with Jupiter in the 9th or in the 12th to a different kind of belief system. Um, yeah, orthodox religion is actually not out of the question with Jupiter going through the 9th or the 12th, but there is also a focus on general spirituality with Jupiter going through the 12th house. Neptune and the 12th house as well. Um, Jupiter's more, yeah, I, I, I do see a lot of people expanding just general spirituality with Jupiter in the 9th as well, but that is something that's more specific to finding belief systems that can give us a framework or morality or meanings in our lives. In the 9th, the 12th is a much broader environment. So is the difference between religion and spirituality? Yes. We thought about the same thing. 9th be more philosophical, yes, than spiritual. Yeah.
So in Jupiter in the 12th, we are receiving the payoff for the last or the karma for the past 12 years that Jupiter has been transiting. And it's very common for us to find a spiritual, spirit notebook, fellow spiritual teacher, spiritual guide, somebody who can assist us along that path. And it doesn't mean that it has to be somebody formal. It's, uh, you know, not necessarily going to be a monk in an orange robe that comes out to literally guide us down that path. It can be a friend, it can be a family member, it can be somebody that just fills that role of helping us to to find something out or to deepen our, um, our own understanding of ourselves or the world in a way that really touches us. So, um, yeah, we, we often find a teacher or a companion that plays that role of teacher when Jupiter transits Venus, the seventh house, the 12th house. These can be where we find mentors or people who can play that role at least during that time. It could be a long-term, uh, friendship or mentorship that begins, but at least for the time that Jupiter is going through those, those houses.
So Jupiter is often indulgence, and we are not indulging in material things with Jupiter going through the 12th. And the meanings that we're giving to things are expanding. They're not as, they're not as simplistic as they used to be. So our mind is expanding as Jupiter is going through the 12th. So there can be actually quite a lot of good, a lot of good karma can come through Jupiter in the 12th. See, Kenya, have the ego dissolution, spiritual awakening when Jupiter transited the 12th. Ah, especially when I crossed the North Node. Pluto is at the highest scoring my Sun. Oh God, so that was a double, double effect there. So it sounds like the ego is getting eaten away, uh, in a couple of different places. Yeah, Pluto to the Sun is no joke. That's one for the record books. But yeah, pair that with the Jupiter going through the 12th, and oftentimes it will be the shorter transits, as we talked about in the beginning of this, this course. Will be the shorter transits. They could be the trigger for that longer transit, as a transit of Pluto to the Sun would be. It would be up to a three-year transit, and we'd have Jupiter coming through for about a year and pushing you over the edge there. So yeah, Jupiter in the 12th house can actually be quite good. Um, a lot of people really report feeling that, um, that they had help. There was even unseen help, or life just seemed a little bit more padded with, uh, Jupiter going through the 12th. Oh, yes. When we get to Pluto transits, that module, there's going to be a lot to talk about there because those are just absolutely life-changing transits.
All right, so let's talk about Neptune going through the 12th house. Um, you know, it's very similar to, oh, wait, I skipped Uranus. All right, let's talk about Neptune because I went to that, and we'll go back to Uranus. Um, Neptune going through the 12th. Um, very similar to, I'll get to Pluto last. Um, very similar to Jupiter going through the 12th. This is the home of Neptune. It'll be a long time that Neptune is in this particular house or any house. Oh my God, I skipped both of them because I was talking about Neptune, so I just went there. So we'll just back up and I'll edit it like I never made any mistakes. So yeah, Neptune going through the 12th, at the 12th, that's like a 14-year event. And it's going to be a meltdown of our previous belief systems with Neptune going through the 12th house. What we used to find faith in may be eroded over the course of time. And it, it won't be something that happens all of a sudden. It's a gradual, um, slipping out of what used to give us comfort and meaning. And being more comfortable with more all-encompassing or more spiritual rather than religious ideas. Um, it's, it's less of a religious inspiring kind of transit, more of a spirituality kind of inspiring transit. We will be drawn to more acts of service. We want to be very careful about why, if we are wearing ourselves out with Neptune going through the 12th house, that's because we're doing things that are actually in service to our own ego. We're trying to make ourselves feel better about ourselves. And we may not actually be giving of ourselves because we really want to. We can be feeling like we have to, or we owe it, or there's, there's if there's resentment or guilt involved, stop doing it because you're not doing whatever it is you're doing for the right reasons. So we will be drawn to more service or giving or offering of ourselves. But if that's depleting, we don't have to do it. And so we look at our motivations very closely for giving and for, um, for our compassion. Um, is for some people, Neptune going through the 12th house, they can't go through a period of having their previous belief system dissolved to the point that they just lose, uh, the ability to believe in anything. They just don't, there's no meaning in anything for a period of time. That can seem very boring. That can seem like everything is just one long day, and there's not a lot of differentiation between things when we're in that state. And for some people, I mean, they can handle that very well. For a lot of people, having that, so say for most, the vast majority of people, having that meltdown is very upsetting. And, uh, we seek to replace those gaps, the that loss and the meaning that we give to things, the loss of the belief system, we see, we seek to replace those, those gaps and things pretty quickly. That's hard to do with Neptune and transiting through the 12th house. There may be a longer period of time where we're dealing with, uh, and nihilism, not knowing what is worth believing in, writing spooky poetry, listening to a lot of Pink Floyd. So we have to give ourselves time to develop a new framework for the meaning of life. And we can be questioning that, "What is the meaning of life? What is behind it all?" And those are dangerous questions to ask because if you ask for the truth, you might get it. And, you know, I think a lot of us, you know, we ask in passing, "Oh, you know, I'd really like to know, you know, what the meaning of it all is." But some of us really ask. And that's when you may get that answer. Someone who has it, Natalie? Yes, it would be more of a lifelong kind of, uh, wandering that we would come into that we would experience with Neptune in the 12th. It makes it harder to just, uh, develop a material belief system or, uh, expectation about material reality and just stick with that because there's always an erosion of the, um, the process of projection. And we have Neptune in the 12th house, and sometimes it can increase the process of projection. But over the course of time, the higher purpose of Neptune is to erode all of those illusions away so we can have that chance of clarity.
All right, so let's look at, um, Saturn. Where are you? Notes. Okay. Saturn in the 12th, very, very consequential transit because Saturn is wrapping up a long-term cycle as he's going through the 12th house and getting ready to pass over the ascendant where everything, um, gets straightened out. So Saturn in the 12th, and we are looking at our failures. Because as we talked about in last week's lesson, Saturn going through the 11th, where and the 10th of receiving a great deal of karma and the, the payoff, uh, for what we have been doing, what we've been working towards. The 12th house is also a house of karma. I'd say the most karmic houses are the fourth, the seventh, the 10th, the 11th, the 12th. That's my astrologer opinion. It's not written anywhere. That's coming out of my own head. So we're looking at what have we failed? How have we failed ourselves? What have we not accomplished? What feels lost to us? We can feel very hopeless with Saturn going through the 12th house. That's not for everybody. For a lot of people, we have received pretty good results, pretty good consequences. And so Saturn going through the 12th can be less difficult. But it is still, for everybody, it is still a process of of erosion. Water is very erosive. I mean, water can actually shape rock more powerfully than stone. Saturn is stone and rock, bone hard materials, concrete. It's coming into the 12th house where he can be reshaped, washed away, eroded. And we all go through a process of letting go of the old version of ourselves with Saturn going through the 12th house and coming to new ideas about what we want to be, what we'd like to accomplish. We are resetting the karmic clock with Saturn going through the 12th house. So there's a final delivery of what we deserve with Saturn going through the 12th. And for some, if they haven't been directing their life, if we've gotten hard things with Saturn in the 10th and the 12th and the 11th, then we will experience more of that theme in the 12th because this is the time where we have to flush everything out. So, um, a lot of people are very tired with Saturn going through the 12th. They'll try to start new projects, try to start new ventures, and it doesn't, it doesn't get off the ground. It doesn't work. It takes an enormous amount of energy to try to start new things. And it's best that we wait. It's best that we plan. It's best that we envision rather than do, rather than accomplish. Yeah, those outer planets can come into a house and progress. Charity, Kenya, for a long, long, long time. I don't spend too much time worrying about those, but it is worth noting. Yeah, we will have a module in the advanced course about the progressed chart in 2023. So the, uh, fruit is it, it appears in the 10th. It really ripens, and we eat it in the 11th. And then the fruit decays. Whatever's left over, it's like the apple core is decaying in the 12th house. And sometimes there's a worm at the core. Sometimes we find that as we are, uh, as we are doing less, as we are feeling more retired, or some of our progress has been by conditions or circumstances, we're not moving as quickly as we would like to. That forces a reflection. Kind of like when you are used to driving in traffic and having to pay really close attention, and then one day you take the bus home, and you sit and you look out the window, and you realize how much time you have been able to just spend thinking and reflecting because you didn't have to be on point. You didn't have to be thinking in traffic. It's that experience of being taken out of the game, and it forces a wisdom. It forces us to develop wisdom because we've had the time to sit and reflect. So we realize the method behind madness was Saturn going through the 12th house. Um, we are, we are a bit obsessed with what is wrong with us with Saturn in the 12th house. We'd be really brooding about how we are inadequate, how we are weak, and really trying to, to find out what is the motivation behind that. So this is not a great time to start anything serious. This is the time to consider or wrap up or end what has already been in the works. And with Saturn going through the first house, we definitely get our gumption back. But this can be a very trying transit for a lot of people.
Let's look at Uranus going through the 12th. So Uranus always brings sudden events, things that we can't, uh, always predict or ever predict. And as he's going through the 12th house, we can have sudden upsets when it comes to our secrecy. So if we wanted to keep something under wraps, it is harder to do that with Uranus going through the 12th house. We get a bit of a leaky subconscious, and we can act in ways where we don't understand that we are setting our own selves up for revelation or to have something seen or known. So we can have some embarrassing events occur with Uranus going through the 12th house. We could experience being canceled. We could experience, uh, negative or embarrassing judgments about ourselves. Um, it's kind of similar with Uranus going through the 10th. We can see a bit of that as well. Scandalous kinds of things can plague us with Uranus going through the 12th. It could be something like, you know, somebody starts an online bullying campaign about us, or, um, you know, is trying to reveal something about us that, you know, is very embarrassing. So we have to look at how are we setting ourselves up for revelation or failure? Um, how we may we be giving out information about ourselves that can empower other people to reveal that about us? So we need to be very plain with, uh, Uranus going through the 12th house. That does not mean that we need to take all of our clothes off and live in a glass house for a seven-year period of time. Um, but we do need to be careful about the unconscious part of our personality revealing itself through, um, ways that we don't understand. So we can be undoing ourselves. We can be doing things like, uh, forgetting to change a sensitive password, and it can really seem like, "Oh my gosh, other people are horrible, and look what they've done to me." And yes, that is true. Those things have happened, but it's our self that has, um, really initiated the event. So we have to be aware of how we are our own joker with Uranus going through the 12th house. We may be trolling ourselves, and it's in service to knowing ourselves. But that knowing ourselves, that revelation, can sometimes come through very upsetting or unexpected means. So, um, we don't want to hide things from ourselves with the Uranus going through the 12th because the kinds of Freudian slips, that's what it is. It's seven years of Freudian slips and Freudian behaviors. Um, they can reveal things that we then have to go back and clean up or explain after the fact or get to know. Oh, Katie, yikes. This is an embarrassing one to have in high school, for sure. I can sympathize with that.
So let's talk about Pluto here. And, um, I can smell that my husband has taken my apple pie out of the oven. I am so excited about that. The apples from my own tree that I managed to store and keep in a box. It will be the best pie ever. Um, all right, so Pluto in the 12th house. He could be there for a long ass time, depends on what sign he happens to be in. He has a very eccentric orbit, very oval-shaped. So Pluto will spend a few years in one sign and then like a couple decades in another. As he is, uh, through Capricorn and Aquarius, both like a 20-year tenure in each sign. So Pluto in the 12th house, we are looking at hidden things. It's a long period of time where we have our hidden nature being revealed to us. This is a great transit for long-term psychotherapy to really get in there and root some stuff out. Um, we are understanding how we work against ourselves, self-sabotage, how we may think we want this, but we're actually doing that. So we can ferret out a lot of our hypocrisy with Pluto going through the 12th house. And that can be very embarrassing. It's really humiliating to see how we aren't doing what we think we're doing. It can be really embarrassing to have to admit to ourselves that, "Oh, is that what I really look like? Oh, I thought I was prettier." Uh, these are, uh, difficult, uh, realizations to come to. So it's a humiliating transit, Pluto going through the 12th house. Um, we can be particularly plagued by what we don't know that we don't know. So I, you know, somebody who's beating their head against a brick wall for 20 years, that may be a Pluto transit going through the 12th house because we, it may take a period of time for us to see what we haven't seen and to get out of our own way. So it's a longer period of time that, uh, we're pulling the curtain aside and really looking at the wizard. So, coming to grips with our dark side is a part of what makes us more human. If we are denying the dark side, then it has power over us. It's active. We have to learn to love it. And with Pluto going through the 12th house, this is our Darth Vader moment where we, uh, we really have to make friends with our devil. And that doesn't mean that we bless everything that we do. You know, say we discover that we are, say, harsher on our children than we realized that we were. That doesn't mean that we bless that behavior and and nurture that behavior. It means that we see it, and we see it for what it is, and we understand what's behind it, and we get it. And we can approach the approach knowing that about ourselves with compassion and forgiveness for ourselves. But we don't have to celebrate the behavior. We're not condoning what we've done. We're understanding it. And in forgiving it, we are not allowing something to operate outside of our conscious sight. When we judge things and put them down, repress them, and demonize them, those things are still happening. Those desires are still there. Those detached behaviors are still there, but it's out of the sight of our consciousness, out of sight, out of mind. And we're self-sabotaging ourselves in ways that we are not consciously aware of because all of those disowned things and parts, behaviors, desires, they're still happening. So the more we know it, and the more we see it, the less power it has over us. It's like we finally pull back the curtain and realize the Wizard of Oz was just a dude in there operating all of these machines. And it takes the power out of it. And didn't the Wizard of Oz stop being scary at that moment? That moment when we saw, "Oh, it's just a person." So we stop scaring ourselves, hopefully, with Pluto going through the 12th house and make friends with our devil. And when we make friends with it, it doesn't act out unhealthily because it doesn't have to. It's like the teenager that really, really wants to smoke, really wants to do bad things. And if we make those things taboo, well, that gives them a reason to do it. But if it's, uh, is something that's not, uh, hidden, demonized, well, it loses, it is its excitement. So we come to see, uh, what we don't know that we don't know. Pluto in the 12th house, and it's empowering because we realize that we've been losing power before we know those things. Because again, all those things are still operating. You're just operating in a way where we don't want to know it. So it's like, ah, it's like you have a car, a really nice car, it's worth a lot of money. So you watch that odometer really closely. But so many mornings you come back and you realize there's been extra miles put on that car. What the hell is going on? There's scratches, there's wear and tear. Looks like there might have even been an animal transported in that car. What the hell is going on? Because parts of us are operating at night. We're out on the town. We're out dating llamas. We're out doing whatever it is we want to do. Yes, Dr. Dr. Jekyll, I guess it's Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde, he goes, uh, cruising at night. So we have to understand that, uh, we all have a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I get, I'm confused too, Katie. And, uh, when we realized that, uh, oh, it's me who's been taking those, uh, taken those joy rides. Okay, well, now that I know it, it's not going to happen anymore because we know it. So when we know something, that means we understand the motivation. We understand the devil that was driving the car. And it's not scary anymore. So it isn't driven outside of our conscious sight. So the action of self-sabotage ends when we see clearly, when we see who we're really dealing with. So yeah, very, very interesting transit.
