So, I used to think Notes app was just some basic app until I realized how much you can actually do with an iPad, Apple Pencil, and my other Apple devices. I'm Reena, and today I'm showing you the most useful tips, tricks, and hidden features. Let's get right into it.
[music]
When you want to jot down something quickly, just tap anywhere on the screen to open up a quick note. And you can swipe from the bottom right corner to bring up a quick note. Long press on the app icon and this will give you a quick menu where you can create a new note or checklist, scan documents and record audio.
Did you know you can drag and drop so many things right into notes app? You can open up a multitasking window with the photos app and now you can long press on any object in a photo and drag it into your notes.
[music]
Add videos that you can play directly inside your notes. Select text and drag and drop this into notes.
[music]
Songs and playlists from Apple Music. Add map locations. Add an email to your notes. And this links back to your email.
If your handwriting is messy like mine, this next tip helps a lot. Automatically neaten your handwriting.
[music]
Tap on the three dots and then make sure auto refine handwriting is switched on. Then when you write, it's just going to automatically smoothen out and straighten your handwriting. This feature helps to make your handwritten notes more legible.
Drag and drop web links directly into your note. And just tap on that link to open up the web page. On any web page, swipe to create a new QuickNote, and this will include a link of that web page.
Here's an ecosystem tip for your iPad, iPhone, and other Apple devices. You can copy objects from one device and paste it on the other. To set this up, make sure you're using the same iCloud account. And then in settings, search for AirPlay and make sure handoff is switched on on both devices.
This is how I adjust my handwritten notes, just [music] like text. If you need to add something to your notes, you can use the Apple Pencil and long press where you want to add your words and you will see this cursor show up. Then you can just push the words out as much as you want and carry on writing. If you delete some words, you can also close the gap by long pressing on the page and closing that gap.
This is how I save quotes and links I don't want to lose. When you find something useful on a web page, you can just select all the text you want to save. Tap on this arrow here and then tap on new quick note and this will save that into a quick note. And you can tap on that quick note to bring up the web page and the [music] text is even highlighted.
Let's talk about Apple intelligence. Create polished images from doodles and notes.
[music]
On certain iPads, you have this magic wand tool. Draw around your handwritten notes [music] and that's going to turn it into a proper sketch or illustration. You can tap into style and choose something else.
Notes app can solve your handwritten equations. Tap on the three dots. Under math results, you can tap on insert results. And this means that when you handwrite an equation, it will automatically [music] insert the answer. You can also change one of the numbers and it will update automatically. It can also do automatic conversions.
This is how I scan directly into notes app. Use the scan text function to scan text directly into your notes and tap on insert to add that to your notes.
Here's how I save full web pages into my notes and write over them. You can swipe from the bottom left corner with your Apple Pencil to take a screenshot. Tap on full page and this will give you all the content on that page. Tap on the share icon. Select the notes app. And now the whole page will be saved in your notes. And you can annotate and highlight over it.
You can use gestures to speed up your workflow. Take three fingers and [music] swipe left to undo and right to redo.
Here I'm in the photos app and you can long press on an object, tap add sticker. You can also add effects, outline, comic, puffy, and shiny. Back in your notes app, you bring up the keyboard and then go into your emoji keyboard. And you will find all your custom stickers in here.
This next tip is great for meetings and lecture notes. Tap on this paperclip icon and record audio. Tap to record, and this will save that audio recording into your notes. And if you tap on it, this will give you a full transcription of your recording. And you can copy the transcript to use in other apps. You can also tap on the summary button and this will give you a more summarized version of your notes. You can also pause and resume the recording at any point.
You can create collapsible sections using headings and just tap [music] on it to expand the section.
Keep your notes organized automatically with smart folders. You can sort your notes into folders based on hashtags. Type a hashtag and make sure you hit space so that it turns yellow. Now tap on this icon here and tap on new folder. Make into smart folder. Tap on tag any selected tag and select the one you've added. And now this folder contains every single note that I tagged with that word. Drag and drop folders into other folders to create nested subfolders.
Here's how I use the notes app as a scanner. Tap on the three dots and scan. And then you just hold it in position and it's going to scan automatically. And look how perfect that is. The page is completely white and you don't see any of the mat behind it. You can also adjust the corners yourself by dragging these corners. And down here you can also apply a filter so you can turn color scans into black and white and grayscale.
Working with PDFs is getting easier in notes app. Drag and drop entire PDF files into notes and they become scrollable documents. And you can also navigate using the smaller thumbnails.
You can handdraw shapes and just hold at the end and it will snap into a perfect shape. This is starting to look like Squid Game. You can also do this with the highlighter tool. This makes it really convenient to add shapes to your notes.
You can link your notes together and build a mini index. You can create links between notes on the keyboard. Tap on this button twice and you will see your recent notes come up. You can tap on one of these to create a link to that particular note. Or if you want to link to an older note that doesn't show up in the list, you can just type the name of that note.
You can handr write and it will automatically turn into text. Go into settings under Apple Pencil and come down to scribble and make sure this is turned on and you'll see this pen appear in your toolbar. And to erase it, you can just scribble through it.
You can also convert handwriting to text. Just tap on the lasso pen and then lasso around your handwriting. Tap on the three dots and copy as text. Then you can just delete the handwriting [music] and paste this as text.
You can create 3D graphs from your equations and they automatically update when you change the numbers. You can rotate it and see how different variables affect it.
If you find the onscreen keyboard uncomfortable to write with, just pinch with two fingers to resize it. And you can move this around the page. [music] And you can just pinch out to resize it again.
You might know that you can tap on the three dots lines and grids and choose a different template. But you might not know that you can go into notes app in settings. And in here you can actually change the default so that every time you create a new note it starts with that template.
Did you know that notes app integrates with reminders app? Drag and drop a note into reminders app and this will create a reminder that links back to that note. You can also use Siri and say remind me about this to create a reminder based on that note.
Here's how I quickly create a note with Siri. Long hold on the top button to bring up Siri. Create a note reminding me that my appointment is at 2 p.m. and Siri will create the note for you.
There's a really powerful search function. Tap on the magnifying glass and write in your search term. And here has brought up all the search results. So it can search through handwritten notes, text as well as audio recordings. If you want to search within one particular note, use find a note and this will search within that note alone.
This is how I record phone calls directly into notes app. Tap on the three dots and call recording and this will record your entire conversation and you'll have a full transcript of everything that was said. And you can also take notes during the call.
I use Notes app on my Apple Watch when I'm on the go. All my notes are also here and I can tap on this icon to create a new note. And instead of typing, you can tap on dictation to dictate a note by voice. Use the checklist feature for things like your grocery shopping. And you can also tick them off on your Apple Watch.
I can say, "Hey Siri, [music] create a new note. My appointment is at 3 p.m. Draw anywhere on your page." and it's going to generate an image just based on the contents of your page.
Tap on the three dots and remove background. And this gives you a PNG image and you can still see the lines beneath it. This tool is good for brainstorming and visualizing your ideas, but I definitely wouldn't rely on these for factual accuracy.
Another way to straighten handwriting is to tap on the lasso tool and then lasso around your handwriting. Tap on the three dots here. Tap on straighten. [music] It's gone from this to this.
Writing tools can help you rewrite things like emails. Select all the text you want it to check. [music] Tap on this icon here and you can choose to proofread, rewrite, or summarize the key points. You can also tap in this part here and describe your change. Make this email more polite and it's going to rewrite it for you. You can also choose from one of these preset tones. [music] You can also compose fresh text using chat GPT. Explain the process of transpiration.
If you find the toolbar annoying and it gets in the way of you writing, you can just use a finger and drag it to the side of the page or the other side of the screen.
Long press on any note and you can pin it to the top so all your most important notes are at the top for easier access. For a bigger preview of your notes, tap on the three dots and switch to gallery view.
You can also lock sensitive notes. Just tap [music] on it and then tap on lock and enter in a password. And this is really useful if you're sharing your iPad with family members.
If you find some text that you want to add to your notes, you can just select it and copy and then go back to your notes and long press just after your notes until you see this cursor and then tap on paste. And this will convert all the text into handwriting. Now, I don't know why anybody would want to do this because it's not particularly neat. I don't think it looks anything like my handwriting, but the option is there if you want a more handwritten look.
That's everything for this video. I hope you found it useful. Let me know in the comments which tip you will be trying first. I'll be making more iPad and Samsung tablet videos, so consider subscribing to my channel if you haven't done so already. Thanks for watching. See you next time.
