It's climate change because if it goes higher or lower, whatever the hell happens, there's climate change. It's the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world in my opinion.
What an abomination. What an embarrassment. Uh, what a fraud.
As Trump gave his speech in front of the world leaders, he just lied about everything. He bragged about his poll numbers, which we know they're awful, and then he decided to lie about climate change, acting as if it isn't happening. Well, thankfully, Governor Gavin Newsom was on hand to give a rebuttal.
What a fraud. Um, you know, and I say that as a guy that uh lives in one of the most crisis-prone states in America. Um, but a state that's seen lifestyles, places, traditions completely destroyed because of the reality of climate change. I've seen communities like Grizzly Flats and Paradise, California, uh, wiped off the map. Um, there's no Republican, we've said this many times, or Democratic thermometer. It's just reality. Um, and a lot of us are getting mugged by reality. You don't have to believe in science. Believe in your own damn eyes. The hots are getting a lot hotter. The dries are getting drier. Uh, these atmospheric rivers, these rain bombs, simultaneous droughts and floods. Uh, wake up, wake up to the reality. He, he's an ideologue. Um, Trump, uh, and he's not even a good one. Uh, because he has no sort of foundational philosophy. Um, and uh, and his, you know, his thinking has the form and substance of fog.
Newsom was right on mark when he talked about the stupidity of Trump denying climate change, but also it really showed Trump's age. The fact is, only boomers deny climate change these days, including among Republicans. Polls have shown that younger Republicans, not just Gen Z, but millennials also, are far ahead of their older Republicans. It's not such a great talking point that Trump is saying anymore. He thinks it's resonating with his base, but in fact, it just ages him. When you look at the polling, it's quite significant. According to the polls, the younger Republicans find that climate change is impacting their local communities, 43%, and that the federal government is doing too little to reduce the effects of climate change, 49% agree with that statement. Again, this is among Republicans. They say that 75% of these younger Republicans are acknowledging the human contributions to climate change and over 50% believing it's a serious threat. So, we're seeing him age in real time, whether it has to do with his hands or his inability to walk in a straight line. But even when he talks, he shows how out of step he actually is with the younger people and how old he really is. If you remember, he is the oldest person ever elected president.
Global warming not happening. You know, it used to be global cooling. If you look back years ago in the 1920s and the 1930s, they said global cooling will kill the world. We have to do something. Then they said global warming will kill the world. But then it started getting cooler. So now they could just call it climate change because that way they can't miss. It's climate change because if it goes higher or lower, whatever the hell happens, there's climate change. It's the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world in my opinion. Climate change. No matter what happens, you're involved in that. No more global warming. No more global cooling. All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that have cost their countries fortunes and given those same countries no chance for success. If you don't get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail.
Let's be frank. Trump's lie about climate change is actually a lie within a lie because he does believe in climate change. He just doesn't want to solve it by helping renewable resources. He wants to solve it by acquiring Greenland and Canada. Let's get into this. So, as we know, Greenland and Canada are very rich in minerals. But usually, most of their minerals are inaccessible because they're covered by glaciers. But as climate change progresses, glaciers are melting. And as they melt, those minerals become accessible. So perhaps the biggest evidence that Trump and all of his cohorts do actually believe in climate change is the fact that they are trying to take over Greenland and Canada. In fact, according to CNN, the loss of ice in Greenland has opened up shipping routes, increasing the amount of time they can be navigated during the northern hemisphere in the summer. This is in Greenland. Arctic shipping rose 37% over the decade to 2024 according to the Arctic Council in part due to melting ice. You can bet Trump and his oligarch and billionaire friends who only care about the money. They know those statistics. This is the reason why they want to take over Canada. They want to take over Greenland because they know climate change is happening. They don't want to stop it. They just want to find a way to profit off of it.
This week, I submitted a formal comment opposing the US EPA's proposal to rescind what is known as the endangerment finding. It was a 2009 landmark ruling that climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions threatens both public health and welfare. The endangerment finding is based on science, not politics, and provides the foundation for years and years of key clean air regulations at the federal level, including rules that protect Americans from polluting cars and trucks. But now, the Trump administration, they want to erase all of that. And they're relying on cherry-picked propaganda spoon-fed to the EPA by the oil industry. And if you don't believe, by the way, in science, they should believe in their own set of eyes. Consider this. In 2023 alone, we saw 28 separate natural disasters, fires and hurricanes and floods, each made more devastating by climate change. Those claimed, by the way, some 400 lives and cost $92 billion in damages. The EPA is siding once again with polluters over science and telling fire victims to ignore the flames, flood victims to ignore rising water, and parents of asthmatic children to ignore their kids choking. This is not leadership. This is betrayal. Betrayal of the American people that the EPA is duty-bound to protect. California will not wait. We will continue to lead because we have no choice. The lives and livelihoods of our people depend on it. We should be able to count on the federal government to do the same.
You would think it would be a lot easier to allow us to invest in renewable resources than acquire Greenland or Canada, but that would disappoint his oil business friends, the ones who donate to him, the ones who donate to the GOP. Well, as a favor to these oil business friends of his and donors, he has made Lee Zeldon, who is considered fossil fuels' inside man, as the head of the EPA. He was just asked recently whether or not he believed in climate change after Trump went on stage and denied it. And of course, he said no. Well, he is considered such a friend of the fossil fuel industry. He was given the oil slick award by an environmental group because of how pro-oil business he was and a record rating of 14% by the League of Conservation Voters. He is the inside fossil fuel man that Trump made the head of the EPA in order to deregulate the environmental industry and to strip away the protections and the momentum we were having as a country to protect our environment because that helps the oil companies. That helps the fossil fuel companies who donate to Trump and the GOP. And their solution to the climate change problem instead is to take advantage of it by trying to get minerals under glaciers that have melted. So when Trump goes on stage to the UN and he denies the climate change, Newsom rightfully calls him out for the stupidity of this statement, the hypocrisy of the statement. It shows Trump's age because the younger even Republicans don't even believe it anymore. And it shows his own hypocrisy because his actions don't even believe that climate change isn't real. But he doesn't care about any of this because you have to follow the money. And as long as the money, the fossil fuel money is funneling to Trump, his friends, the GOP, they don't care if their actions are harming the climate.
