Today's scripture readings from first kings 16 verse 31. The title for today's service, Ahab, Father's Brother, delivered by Pastor Yunduhi. Hallelujah.
Today is the ninth sessions of the book four of this academy of history of redemption. Ahab. On the outside, Ahab appeared to be a strong king. But on the inside, he was a ruin already broken. The name of Ahab means father's brother, his lineage. And surprisingly, this portrayal could also be our own. After Solomon died, Israel was divided into the northern and southern kingdoms. Since the beginning, the northern kingdom of Israel was a nation that had turned away from God. Dynasties kept changing and rebellion and political intrigue were repeated again and again. He was Ahab who reigned from 873 to 852 BC. Behind him there was another figure who was also contributed to Israel's destruction. She was Jezebel. The time of Ahab was the darkest period. Yet it was precisely at that time God shown his light most powerfully. Who was that light? Elijah. Through whom God shown his light Elijah. Romans 5 verse 20 verse 20 it is said the transgression would increase but where sin increased grace abounded all the more.

Point big number one the be the beginning of compromise the marriage with Zabel and the breaking of the covenant. Ahab's downfall did not happen suddenly. Everything began with a small compromises. Ahab fell into sin because of the influence of his father Ombri took Zabel the daughter of Eth Baal king of Sidon as his daughter-in-law. This was not merely a political marriage for practical gain. It became an open door for foreign gods. Baal and Asera. These foreign gods became established as this the nation religion. So all people were allowed to worship these idols. Compromise keep us away from God.
Point big number two. Ahab contested against Elijah the prophet on Mount Carmel an unrepentant heart despite repeated warnings. So all these stories were connected First Kings 17:1 Elijah declared to Ahab. Then Elijah said, "Surely there shall be neither due nor rain these years except by my word." And indeed there was no rain and even dew. If you have faith, if you have a close relationship with God, you have such you're so close to God, you could declare this too. So the sky was shut for three and a half years. James 5:17 because it is not Bal but God who gives rain. So how did Ahab respond? He did not repent. Instead, he blamed Elijah and said, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?" First Kings 18:E1 17. This is what he thought. Because of you, Elijah, the Israel suffered. Ahab did not look for the root of the problem within himself. Instead he blamed others and shifted the responsibility onto them. So when difficulties come whom do we blame? Do we blame our circumstances? Do we blame other people? Or do we choose to stand before God? And finally, Elijah asked Ahab together the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asher on Mount Carmel. Then Elijah's asked to all the people. He asked in first kings 18:21, "How long will you hesitate between two opinions?" Hesitate between two opinions in Hebrew is PO which means to limb as if walking in two directions. Where do you want to go? Left or right? Limping. Both Ahab and the people Israel did not completely abandon the Lord. But how was their faith? Their faith was a mixed faith. We will still worship the Lord as the God of our ancestors, but we will all follow. We will follow Ba for benefit. This is what they thought. They did not leave God, but they also refused to let go of Baal. Now this is a divided faith, a wavering faith. It's not a true faith. Neutrality, neutrality is not faith. Being neutral is not faith, but a chosen disobedience in faith. This in faith neutral ground is actually the place of judgment. Why do we doubt? Why do we waver? Because there is something more attractive to us than God. So don't forget that. That's why we must truly to un truly understand the beauty and the worth of Christ. He was a false god as if asleep. But when Elijah prayed, the God of Elijah answered by sending fire from heaven upon the altar. First Kings 18:38. Yet even after witnessing such extraordinary power, Ahab still did not repent through Jezebel. He continued even harsher, more brutal religious oppression. He became more brutal. So seeing God's power doesn't guarantee repentance. From this story, from this Ahab, we know miracle does not guarantee repentance. Repentance does not come from seeing miracles but from making a decision.
Point big number three. After the battle on the Mount Carmel, what happened next? The disobedient disobedience and Ahab's great anger when hearing the prophecy. God desired that after experience God's power. God hoped that I Ahab could repent and return to him. Isn't it amazing our God? How amazing God's will. This is a turning point. You could misunderstood thinking that oh God is with me cuz I want. But this shows that the grace is given even to the undeserving. But we know the real problem began after this event, after this battle. After the war ended, Ahab captured Benhad, the king of Aram. Then he made a treaty with him and let king of Aram go. Let him go alive. From from the outside we can see oh it seem good as if were an act of mercy act of full of love act of full of patient full of diplomacy is appear to be a generosity diplomatic skill but the Bible clearly calls it disobedience. Why? Because he listened to his own judgment, not to the will of God. Perhaps was what Ahab thought. H God will surely understand me. Maybe this is okay. God was full of God is full of love. So Ahab, he wasn't fully disobedient, just partially obedient. But for God, partial obedience is already disobedience. That's why God sent a prophet to rebuke Ahab so that he would realize his sin. This is not the first anonymous prophet. This is another prophet first kings 20:35-43. Ahab was evil, very wicked because of him. Because of him even the kingdom of Judah even got influenced by him. Now this is how God with his love tried to rebuke to make Ahab to realize his sin and return to him. Be now it is said because you have let him go your life shall be for his life. Now after hearing this word, what should have I have did? He should have repented but instead he became very angry. He was furious. First King 20:43. Let's read together. Now, point big number four. After this event, what next? The peak of greed, the vineyard of Naboth. First Kings 21. Ahab desired he desired Nabot's vineyard which was located near his palace. When he said to Naboth, "Sell me your land. Sell your land to me." But Naboth refused. Why? What's the reason? The reason is that this is the inheritance of my fathers. He refused because of the word of God. He understood the law of Moses because they you cannot sell according to the law. You cannot sell the inheritance. Now we can see there's a two path. Ahab follow listened to his desire while Nabot followed held on to the word. Now this such a contrast. Now we can see the contrast between the one who submit to power and the one who ignored the word. When Nabboth refused, Ahab even though he was a king, he whined like a child. He was whining. He sulk, he was sulking, laying on his bed, refused to eat. First Kings 21:4. So Ahab went into his house. He went to his house because Nabboth didn't want to sell his land. Ahab was sulking wine sulking and went into his house. He was he was fixed solen the Hebrew also zaxed z. So at that moment, Seabel, she stepped in and devised a wicked scheme. She brought in false witnesses. She arranged a trial. She manipulated the trial and killed and had Naboth killed. According to the detailed laws of the ten commandments, Ahab and his wife Jezebel, these couple had already committed murder through letters. Now, she trapped Naboth who was trying to obey the word. Now this was a highly calculated and deceitful act of wickedness. So when the news came that Naboth is dead now when Aboth not when Ahab listen when I Ahab received this news what did he do? He did not grieve. He wasn't shocked. He did not even feel guilty. He just got up from his bed and he went to take possession of the vineyard. First Kings 21:16. When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he Ahab arose to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Zesraelite. Now this is the story of greed. Sin can bring a person can make a person so greedy up to this point. So at that time God sent God decided to send the prophet Elijah to Ahab to deliver a prophecy. First Kings 21:19, "You shall speak to him, saying, thus the say, thus says the Lord, in the place where the dogs lick up the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lick up your blood, even yours." Now after hearing this, Ahab did humble himself. So he did humble himself. He tore his clothes, wore sackcloth and repented. But it was only for a moment. But God saw his humility. There was no such thing coincidence. It was God's decree behind what appeared to be coincidence. Ahab deceived people but he also tried to avoid the circumstances but he could not escape God. In the end, according to the word of God, his blood was licked by dogs. First Kings 21:19 22:38. The word of God never fails. Not even the smallest detail.
Conclusion. When we look at the life of Ahab, there is one thing very clear. Sin often begins with something small and seem insignificant. Ahab treated sin as something trivial, insignificant. He thought, "Maybe this is okay. I'll be serious later. For now, just go along with it." So we can see in we can read this in first Kings 16:31. As if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Neba. God continually gave Ahab a chance. So many opportunities for what? To repent through famine. Through the defeat of Baal's prophets, through victories over Aram and through the warnings of the prophets, the anonymous prophets Micah, Elijah. So even though he committed great evil, he still receives so many opportunities to repent. Why? It is because of the father's boundless love. But up until the end, he continue to treat sin lightly. Job 34:11, 2 Peter 2:10. To treat sin lightly, it means that you take God lightly. In the end, despite many chances, many opportunities, he ignored the word and met a tragic end. Today the question is for us which side will you choose sin begins small but it never ends small. Choose obedience not compromise. Choose decision not wavering. Choose God not the world. Amen.
