There is something older than time itself. Can you guess what it is? It's the universe. And that's where our intuition breaks. Because time isn't the backdrop of reality. It's part of the construction.
When the universe began, time didn't start ticking in an empty void. Space and time were created together as a single fabric. No seconds, no past, no before. Physics can only describe reality starting at plank time, a moment so early that the idea of time stops working beyond it.
So when we say the universe is 13.8 billion years old, we're measuring time that exists inside the universe, not time before it. Time isn't something the universe moves through. It's something the universe generates. Every clock, every memory, every aging cell is happening within that structure. The universe doesn't need time to exist. Time needs the universe.
