The second key feature is precisely calibrated concentrations. You still get proven efficacy but with reduced irritation and lower skin burden. Third, instead of classic exfoliating acids like AHA and BHA, niacinamide is becoming the spotlight ingredient. We reviewed over 30 products, categorized by skin type, and narrowed them down to our Top Picks. Let’s get started.
What is a “High-Moisture Calming Barrier Ampoule”? It refers to low-irritation ampoules that do not contain exfoliating agents or strong actives.
Dr.G Green Mild Up Red Blemish Clear Soothing Active Essence. Because it contains a high amount of thickeners, it delivers strong hydration. However, on compromised skin barriers, it may feel sticky or cause inner dryness. This serum uses heartleaf and cica for soothing and barrier support. It does have a noticeable texture.
For sensitive skin, Aestura Atobarrier 365 Ceramide Hyaluron Ampoule stands out. Its key feature is Ceramide Hyaluron, a complex combining ceramides with hyaluronic acid. It also contains panthenol, hyaluronic acid, and vitamin C derivatives for calming and barrier care. That said, it does leave a slightly sticky finish, typical of hyaluronic acid. Best suited for combination skin or dehydrated oily skin. For sensitive, barrier-damaged dry skin, please be careful.
Torriden Dive-In Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Serum focuses on hydration and moisture-based barrier support. You feel immediate hydration upon application. Suitable for dry skin, dehydrated oily skin, and sensitive skin.
VT Glucamin Essence. Glucamin is VT’s proprietary ingredient derived from snow mushroom. It also contains squalane, which mimics skin lipids, supports the barrier, and is non-comedogenic, making it suitable even for oily skin. This essence addresses both surface and inner dryness, combining hyaluronic acid and mucin for long-lasting hydration. It offers gentle texture refinement and barrier protection against daily irritation. Recommended for sensitive to dry skin, including barrier-damaged dehydrated oily skin.
Dewytree AC Deep Barrier Calming Ampoule. This product is fully focused on soothing and barrier repair. On days when skin feels tight and irritated, satisfaction is extremely high. It contains high-concentration panthenol and PDRN, supporting elasticity and barrier recovery. Effective for redness and troubled skin. Recommended for dry and sensitive skin.
This concludes the comparative evaluation of calming barrier ampoules. Moving on to “Tone & Mark Correction Ampoules.” These ampoules typically contain 2–20% niacinamide along with brightening and antioxidant ingredients.
Let’s look at how brightening works. When skin is exposed to UV, irritation, or acne extraction, tyrosinase becomes activated. Ingredients like arbutin and alpha-bisabolol block this activation, what suppresses melanin production after it has already formed. Vitamin C and antioxidant products are what help. Niacinamide inhibits melanosome transfer, while tranexamic acid prevents melanin from sinking deeper into the dermis. All of the tone-correction ampoules selected here are top-grade performers.
This contains two percent niacinamide, glutathione, and tranexamic acid.
Purcell Glutathione Flexible Liposome Ampoule. With five percent glutathione, it acts as a powerful antioxidant and helps soften deep pigmentation. The texture is very watery, so dosage control is important. It is a whitening ampoule. Because it can be drying, using a barrier cream is essential.
Now moving into high-strength niacinamide formulas at five percent and above.
Dewytree AC Deep Trace Calming Ampoule. It contains five percent niacinamide along with low-dose glutathione and vitamin C to reduce irritation while still addressing pigmentation. It’s suitable for oily and combination skin, especially for heat-induced redness and excess shine.
Another high-niacinamide and vitamin C ampoule. It has a cooling gel texture and can be used either on targeted areas or across the entire face. However, sensitive skin should limit use to spot application only. This is recommended for oily and combination skin concerned with post-acne marks.
Avène Hyaluron Activ B3 Anti-Aging Serum. It contains six percent niacinamide. B3 is niacinamide. It leaves a slight tackiness at first, but once absorbed, it doesn’t feel overly oily. It improves skin texture and overall condition, and pairing it with a barrier cream enhances the results.
COSRX The Alpha-Arbutin 2 Discoloration Care Serum. It combines five percent niacinamide with tranexamic acid, alpha-arbutin, and acetyl glucosamine. Acetyl glucosamine works synergistically with niacinamide to support hydration and tone correction. While it feels hydrating at first, it can suddenly become drying and cause inner dryness. This is a high-strength formula recommended for oily, combination, and acne-prone skin.
COSRX Niacinamide 15 Serum. It contains fifteen percent niacinamide and two percent acetyl glucosamine, both effective in reducing hyperpigmentation. It also includes one percent zinc PCA, which helps control sebum and provides mild anti-inflammatory benefits. It feels slightly oily yet hydrating, and it’s best used two to three times a week at night. Sensitive or barrier-weakened skin types should avoid this product.
Derma Factory Niacinamide 20 % Serum. It uses Damask rose water for antioxidant support. When used at night, skin texture often feels smoother by morning. Like other high-concentration niacinamide serums, it’s not particularly hydrating and focuses more on oil control. A barrier cream is essential, and it’s not recommended for sensitive, dry, or compromised skin.
This concludes the category comparison for tone-correcting ampoules. Next, we’ll move on to exfoliating ampoules. These formulas typically include ingredients such as ethanol, AHA, BHA, PHA, or LHA to help regulate oil.
I brought a few familiar review items back for a quick look. When I reviewed La Roche-Posay Effaclar Ultra Concentrate Serum last year, I already mentioned that the exfoliating acids and alcohol content were quite high. It scored low on irritation safety as well. This is more of an occasional-use product.
Next is MIMO by Mamonde Rose Hyalon Hydrating Ampoule. I heard from dermatology clinics that many elementary, middle, and high school students were using this daily and ended up visiting hospitals with contact dermatitis. That’s why I felt this one needed to be addressed. Yes, it does help with sebum control and smoothing texture because it actively exfoliates, but this is not something you should use every day. If you have dry or sensitive skin, this is a product you should completely avoid. I’m bringing this up so people use it with proper awareness.
The first product is Abib Heartleaf TECA Capsule Serum Calming Drop. It’s formulated with heartleaf extract, sorbitol, and panthenol in a patented ratio, combined with TECA, the core active from centella asiatica, encapsulated to deliver the ingredients into the skin. It contains various exfoliating components, and the capsules break immediately upon application, spreading smoothly. Our testers are honestly very sharp; they test products without looking at the ingredient list first. And in this case, the user feedback matched the ingredient profile perfectly. There’s no irritation right after use, but with daily use, the skin becomes drier, thinner, and more sensitive. It works as a mild exfoliating and acne-soothing product, but for dry skin, contact dermatitis, rosacea, or atopic skin, not recommended.
Next is the Aestura A-Cica 365 Serum pH 4.5, which has been reformulated. The gluconolactone (PHA) content appears to be around or slightly above 1%. For soothing, it combines pH 4.5, cica, zinc, four types of centella components, and PHA into a patented formula. It finishes with slight oiliness on the surface while keeping the inside hydrated—there is a bit of oil in it. Compared to the previous version, the moisturizing feel is slightly reduced. This is a medium-strength PHA exfoliating barrier serum. Those with sensitive skin, contact dermatitis, rosacea, or atopic skin should use caution.
Next is Celladix Trouble 7-Balance Rebalancing RX 131 Ampoule. It contains no exfoliating acids or direct sebum-dissolving ingredients. Instead, it uses the brand’s proprietary complex to regulate sebum. Even though it contains potential allergens, it was rated A. Reviews from acne-prone users mentioned improved sebum control and a slight reduction in breakouts. It uses barrier-supporting ingredients effectively to care for both breakouts and skin strength. Recommended for acne-prone skin, but for contact dermatitis, rosacea, or photosensitive skin, be mindful in using. This falls under the sebum/exfoliation care ampoule category.
Finally, what are pore-tightening and lifting ampoules? They’re products centered around dermal-boosting ingredients. I assigned the grades based on clinical data and tester feedback, looking at changes in tone, elasticity, wrinkles, pores, and overall skin condition.
First, Chanel No.1 de Chanel Red Camellia Revitalizing Serum. It contains camellia flower water and extract, rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, antioxidant and soothing ingredients. The ingredient list is decent and not bad overall, but it’s not deeply hydrating. Some inner dryness was noticeable, and its positioning felt a bit unclear, so I gave it a B grade. It’s an anti-aging serum with camellia peptides focused on wrinkle improvement. Best suited for oily, dehydrated-oily, and combination skin.
Next, The Ingredients Editor Green Tomato NN4 Lifting Ampoule. It’s based on green tomato water, niacinamide, and NMN, which activates skin cells to strongly prevent, slow, and improve aging. Because it uses various plant-based ingredients, there’s a subtle fruity and vegetable scent. Extremely sensitive skin should be cautious. There’s no oily residue, but it does contain powdery components. It uses polymethylsilsesquioxane, so it gives a noticeable glow on application. This is a slow-aging serum. The oil–moisture balance is good, delivering nutrition and brightening energy at the same time. Sensitive skin should still use caution.
Next is Biodance Porefectin Collagen Peptide Serum. It contains a complex of 10 peptides, protein building blocks that help promote collagen synthesis, improving elasticity and wrinkles. The texture stretches like threads and has high viscosity. It uses strong film-forming agents. Unlike other ampoules, it creates a thin film on the skin. You get that “wow, it’s glowing” effect, but some users reported inner dryness. Those with weakened barriers, dry, or sensitive skin mentioned this issue. It’s a multi-peptide firming serum. Hydration is slightly lacking, but the glow effect is strong. A product that creates a very glowy skin finish.
Next, Mediheal PDRN Pore Elasticity Serum. It has a stringy, emulsion-like texture and contains cypress oil and rose oil, so rosacea-prone or extremely sensitive skin should be careful. It uses niacinamide and plant-derived PDRN, targeting early signs of aging. With a relatively high oil content, it’s quite moisturizing.
Next is Medicube PDRN Pink Peptide Ampoule. It uses sodium DNA—salmon-derived PDRN—and contains isopropyl myristate and polyisobutene. Because these have comedogenic potential, acne-prone and closed-comedone skin should be cautious. Avoid applying large amounts daily. When rolled in, it absorbs smoothly, keeps the skin hydrated and moisturized throughout the day, and makeup applies well over it. It’s an anti-aging ampoule with a slightly sticky finish, but it leaves the skin feeling plump and firm.
Next, Re:dence Tonen Spot Corrector Ampoule. Its key feature is a high concentration of niacinamide combined with NMN. This ingredient boosts cellular energy in the body and plays a broad role in anti-aging, including elasticity and wrinkle care. It has a pink emulsified texture. There is some oil, but because it doesn’t hold inner moisture well, the hydration longevity felt a bit lacking. Recommended for combination, dehydrated-oily, and dry skin. Not recommended for sensitive or barrier-impaired skin.
Next, Bio Heal Boh NAD Freezel Glow Power Serum. It contains over 1% oil and uses 99% high-purity NAD components. You can actually see the NAD capsules; they burst like water and are liposomalized to deliver the ingredients deeper into the skin. Reviews mention improved inner glow and overall skin condition. A suitable anti-aging serum for sensitive skin.
IOPE MD Stem III Clinical Recovery Serum. It has a relatively high oil content, so there’s noticeable oiliness. It contains hydrolyzed DNA, a patented second-generation PDRN, and a small amount of ethanol. Even in small amounts, the ethanol presence is noticeable in scent. Some users experienced a tingling sensation on application, redness after two to three minutes, small bumps appearing the next morning, and stinging when touching the skin. It’s an elasticity-focused anti-aging serum using peptides and DNA derivatives. The texture is like a thin lotion, giving a hydrated glow with a firm, elastic finish. Suitable for dry, dehydrated-oily, and combination skin. Sensitive or rosacea-prone skin should use with caution.
Lancôme Génifique Ultimate Serum. The core of Génifique is fermentation. Its biggest feature is the blend of 7 pre- and probiotics. It’s very hydrating, and the reason pores visibly improved is because the skin-barrier environment was significantly restored. As the barrier improves, pore condition improves as well, making this an anti-aging serum that targets early signs of aging. The hydration and moisture retention were very satisfying. Recommended for dry, combination, and dehydrated-oily skin.
Eucerin Hyaluron + Epigenetic Serum. This ingredient is involved in cellular metabolism and energy, and Eucerin developed and patented it independently. It doesn’t increase oil or sebum, so oily and dehydrated-oily skin can also use it comfortably. Even sensitive and contact-dermatitis-prone skin reported no breakouts. The dense, bouncy lotion texture showed strong results in pore refinement, skin texture, and wrinkle improvement.
Now let’s move into the year-end Top of the Top ampoules by category, starting with pore elasticity, lifting, and wrinkle improvement.
For year-end Top of the Top ampoules, Sensitive / Soothing / Barrier Repair — TOP. A product I selected back in 2021: Wellage Ampoule. With high-concentration panthenol and 8 types of hyaluronic acid, it’s still a solid recommendation.
For 2024, the Beplain Mung Bean Pore Tight-Up Serum was chosen as a top product for pores and soothing. It uses mung bean peptides and clean hydration without unnecessary additives.
The Top Barrier-Soothing Ampoule goes to Dewytree AC Deep Barrier Soothing Ampoule. Mega-panthenol, cica, and mint provide strong calming effects. Ceramides, cholesterol, phytosterols, and plant oils replenish both the lipid layer and the stratum corneum. A small amount of sodium DNA supports elasticity and skin regeneration. It also contains soybean peptides and palmitoyl hexapeptides that promote collagen and elastin synthesis. The texture is a watery lotion with a well-balanced oil-water ratio. My skin barrier was damaged from frequent double cleansing, and my cheeks had become red; this product helped restore my skin very quickly. A high-panthenol, PDRN-based barrier-and-elasticity serum. It relieved inner dryness immediately and helped reduce redness and irritation caused by dryness. Recommended for sensitive, dry, and dry-combination skin, also great for post-procedure soothing.
Year-End Acne Soothing & Mark Recovery — TOP. I divided this into products that reduce acne and those that help recover post-acne marks.
2024 Acne Soothing TOP: Bring Green Zinc TECA Trouble Serum. A high-intensity ampoule for calming acne and improving post-acne marks.
COSRX The Alpha-Arbutin 2 Discoloration Care Serum. Non-comedogenic and suitable for acne-prone skin. It was selected because of its strong efficacy for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. It suppresses early melanin, mid-stage melanin, and post-formation pathways simultaneously. If you’re using prescription acne treatments, use this on alternate days to reduce irritation. Do not layer them together. Niacinamide helps not only with brightening and marks but also with sebum control and anti-inflammatory effects. I tested it morning and night for several months. No breakouts occurred, and I personally noticed clearer tone and visible brightness improvement. A high-concentration mark-care ampoule with niacinamide, tranexamic acid, and arbutin. Recommended for oily, combination, and dehydrated-oily skin with acne marks. Not recommended for sensitive or barrier-impaired skin. Using a moisturizing or barrier ampoule alongside it improves results.

If your skin is dry inside but oily on the surface, use only on targeted areas. Combination skin should adjust by zone. It helps reduce pores and sebum. A mid-strength PHA exfoliating barrier serum. An emergency acne solution for clogged pores caused by built-up dead skin. Recommended for dehydrated-oily and combination skin prone to congestion. When using this ampoule, a non-exfoliating toner and barrier cream are essential.
Year-End Tone & Soothing — TOP. Previously recommended: VT TX-Toning Essence (1000 shots). For 2024, the top pick is Aestura Regederm 365 Pore Elastic Capsule Serum. Still a strong recommendation.
A top ampoule that delivers acne soothing and tone improvement together: Avène Hyaluron Activ B3 Anti-Aging Serum. Among high-niacinamide products, this one is notably low-irritation. Formulated with 85% thermal spring water for excellent calming effects. Mineral ingredients support calming. It contains dual hyaluronic acid at 1.5%, a generous amount for dry skin. Even after 5 hours, hydration levels remained high when used alone. This means the moisture retention is excellent. When my skin felt hot, tight, and irritated, applying this at night noticeably improved my skin condition by morning. Sensitivity visibly decreased. For dry and sensitive skin, pair with a ceramide barrier cream or rich oil-based cream. This is a high-concentration niacinamide and hyaluronic acid serum that helps with pigmentation, pore elasticity, and overall tone. The formula is minimal, making it very easy to use alongside other active ingredients. Recommended for dry, sensitive, and dry-combination skin. This is a low-irritation, soothing, tone-improving ampoule.
Next, Purcell 88 Billion per mL Glutathione Flexible Liposome. This is a good option for daily morning and night use for dry and sensitive skin. It contains 5% high-concentration glutathione. Glutathione works by softening and lightening dark melanin rather than aggressively removing it. Tranexamic acid helps block pigmentation caused by UV exposure and inflammation. At first, you may not notice dramatic changes, but after using two to three bottles, the skin doesn’t necessarily lose spots completely; instead, it becomes clearer and more translucent overall. Because it doesn’t contain heavy moisturizers, you’ll get better results by pairing it with a hydrating or nourishing ampoule or by sealing it in with a barrier cream. This is a brightening ampoule with high-concentration glutathione, great for improving overall clarity and dullness. Sensitive skin should start by using it every other day. For very dry skin, combining it with a barrier ampoule and barrier cream will significantly improve results.
Now, the Top Pick for Pore Elasticity and Lifting. The 2024 top product was the IOPE PDRN Caffeine Shot Ampoule. It’s low-irritation and consistently improved overall skin condition, so it’s still a recommended product.
For this year’s Slow-Aging Top Picks, many of you asked in the comments for reviews beyond Olive Young. So this time, I divided the selections into department store, derma, and online brands.
Department Store TOP: Lancôme Génifique Ultimate Serum. Human application tests showed a 13% increase in skin thickness and a 32% improvement in density. It was selected because the effects were visibly noticeable. The core of Génifique is fermentation with its signature blend of 7 pre- and probiotics. It’s highly effective at restoring the skin barrier and improving overall skin condition. Sensitive or rosacea-prone skin should use with caution.
Online Brand TOP: Bio Heal Boh NAD Freezel Glow Power Serum. It was chosen because testers rated it the lowest in irritation overall.
