So, the first thing is its full form: Central University Entrance Test. It is an examination at the undergraduate level. And if you take it after 12th class, you get your course and college based on your score. That's the first point.
The second point is, what is the eligibility? Friends, if you are currently in 12th class, then you are eligible to take this entrance. However, the dropper students, who were in 12th class last year and couldn't get a good score, didn't get the right college and course, they are wounded, hence they are dangerous. So, they are like wounded lions. They are injured lions. So, these are your biggest competitors. These students can take it. A student from 11th class cannot take it. For this, you need to register. An organization called the National Testing Agency conducts this exam. You have to register on its website. Registrations open in the months of January and February. The CUET exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT). It's not a paper-and-pen exam where you go to school or college and write. You don't need a pen. You need computer keys here. Now, a question will arise in the student's mind: "Sir, what is this exam exactly?" First of all, let me tell you, there are many subjects in this world. Whether it's the commerce stream, science stream, or arts stream, there are many subjects, dear. But you need to remember that when you take the CUET exam, you can choose a maximum of five subjects. You will have to take the exam for those five subjects, and these five subjects are also divided into three parts. Let me explain it to you clearly, my friend.
NTA has said that you will see three sections: Section One, Section Two, and Section Three. Section One says you have to choose at least one language. There are 12-13 languages in the NTA list. Exactly 13. So, you have to choose any one language, like English or Hindi. There are also some regional languages. You have to choose at least one language and take its exam. Paper number one. Then there are domain subjects. Domain subjects mean those subjects that you have studied in your 12th class in your school. Or, main subjects are called domain subjects that students study in their school. For example, if I tell you the domain subjects for commerce students, they are Accounts, Economics, Mathematics, Business Studies, Physical Education тАУ these are all called your domain subjects. Right? Then there is a new subject. You might not have heard of it. It is called GAT, General Aptitude Test. This comes in Section Three. I will tell you about this in detail later. They say, "Brother, choose five subjects." For example, you have chosen one language. Okay? You have chosen three domain subjects. Okay? And you have chosen one General Aptitude Test. Okay? So, you have a total of five subjects. So, you can take the exam for a maximum of five subjects. It's up to you. You can take the exam for four subjects. You can choose not to take this subject, or reduce one subject from here. It's up to you. In most universities, you get admission to a course like B.Com, B.Com Honors, Math, Eco Honors, Journalism, BBA, or English Honors, Hindi Honors, any course you want to do. Many universities give admission by totaling the marks of four subjects. In some courses, the marks of three subjects are totaled. So, five subjects are never used anywhere. So, basically, you take the exam for five subjects so that you become a little safe, thinking that you have taken an extra subject. So, if my marks are low in one subject, I will use the other.
Now, let's look at the marking system. You should know one thing clearly: you have to take one language. After that, you can take four subjects from wherever you want. That will make a total of five. That's the maximum. Right?
Now, my friend, understand the exam pattern. Whichever of your five papers it is. They say the exam will be in MCQ pattern, and in each paper, there will be 50 questions. And each question will be worth five marks. So, if there are 50 questions, dear, and each is worth five marks, then each paper is worth 250 marks. And there is negative marking here. Negative marking means that if you answer a question correctly, you will get five marks. If you answer a question incorrectly, one mark will be deducted. So, there is a negative marking of -1. If you do not attempt a question, you will neither get marks nor lose them. For example, let me tell you, there were 50 questions. A student attempted 40. Let's see out of 40. 30 of his answers were correct. 10 were incorrect, and he left 10 unattempted. So, 30 were correct. So, multiply 30 by five. That's 150 marks. Right? Now, 10 were incorrect, so one mark will be deducted for each question, so 10 marks will be deducted. And leave the ones he didn't attempt. So, his marks will be counted as 140 out of 250, which are very poor marks. Right? In each subject, marks ranging from 200, 220, up to 230 are considered respectable marks.
Now, suppose you have five papers. You took each paper for 250 marks, so the total is 1250 marks. It doesn't matter how many total marks you get out of 1250. You don't have to use the marks of all five subjects. For example, take the marks of the top four subjects. Let me tell you about using the marks of four subjects. Suppose one subject is 250 marks. There are four subjects, so the total is 1000 marks. See how many marks you have out of 1000. Marks like 920, 930, 940 out of 1000 are considered very standard. Based on this, you get admission in good colleges and good courses.
Now, what happens is that universities release their cut-offs. A cut-off means they state a mark. They say that if a student scores this many marks out of 1000, they will get admission. For example, last year, in Shri Ram College of Commerce, a student who scored 920 marks in the B.Com Honors course got admission under the general category.
Okay, there is negative marking, so you have to keep this in mind. There is no scope for making mistakes. You will ask, "Sir, how to prepare?" I will tell you that too. Put Accounts here. If you put Math here, then put Accounts here. Or, this option is given because some students do not have Math in 12th class. So, SRCC says that if you don't have Math, you can get admission to SRCC by using your Accounts marks. That is, Math is not required for admission to SRCC.
For example, there are two undergraduate courses offered at SRCC. There are only two. One is Eco Honors, and the other is B.Com Honors. If you want to get admission to B.Com Honors, I have told you the criteria. If you want to get admission to Eco Honors at SRCC's Economics Honors, then dear, you need one language, for example, English, and in addition, you need Math. Math is absolutely necessary to get admission to Eco Honors at SRCC and any college of Delhi University. Plus, you need two domain subjects. Two, meaning, add any other two subjects. NTA provides a list for this. I will tell you where it is provided shortly. I will reveal everything. So, for Eco Honors, Math has become mandatory, brother. This does not mean that in all universities across India, if you want to do Eco Honors, you absolutely need Math. There are many universities that say, "Come without Math." So, these are different requirements for different universities. So, you first have to target right now which university you want to get admission to after 12th class, which course you want to do after 12th class. If you decide this beforehand, then you can prepare for it, right? This is the best way.
Now, if your dream is to get admission to DU, that is, Delhi University, then Delhi University says that the domain subjects you have taken in CUET must also have been studied by you in 12th class. If you studied Accounts, Business, and Economics in 12th class, and you take the CUET exam for them, then DU will consider those marks and give you admission to its university. But there are many universities that say, "Even if you haven't studied a subject in 12th class, you can choose it in CUET and take the entrance exam. We will give you admission based on your marks." Every university has a different system. That's why students get confused. That's why they need regular guidance.
