The USA spent eight million dollars on transgender mice, according to Donald Trump. He proudly announced, in a speech, that he was ending this waste of money. It's obviously not real.
Trump confused two terms. There is no government funding to make mice transgender. It's about transgenic mice. Transgenic means that DNA from other species is implanted into mice to research diseases like cancer or Alzheimer's and to develop therapies against them. It makes much more sense. You can't make someone, or a mouse, transgender. But these transgenic studies have been hailed as a medical revolution.
Such mix-ups happen when you remove all information on trans topics from government websites, or all queer topics from school and college curricula. You quickly err in terminology if you're not knowledgeable on the subject. Trump is really not knowledgeable on any subject.
With this statement, Trump not only spread misinformation but also boasted about cutting funding for cancer research and, incidentally, made anti-trans statements. He's even more clueless and ignorant than before. That's quite a feat for Donald Trump.
