The Facial Release Method That Changed My Face (and How It Can Transform Yours Too)

Sage Facial Tension Release5:05

Transcription

Several years ago, I changed the way that my face feels, functions, and looks using natural techniques and hands-on methods. One of the main methods that I used is what I call the holding pressure method.

I developed this method to work not only on the muscle tension that was changing my face shape and my features, but also the fascia and connective tissue of the face, which is deeply influential over the way that the face functions and looks. Not only that, this technique even works on your bone. So, it's not going to make you grow an extra layer of your cheekbone or something like that, but it does stimulate the osteoblast of the bone, which is responsible for bone growth and maintenance. So, it's going to help you maintain your bone and your face over time.

It also works on the sutures of the bone. These are the connections between the bones of the face because the face is not a static piece. It's several pieces held together and deeply influenced by the poles of the connective tissue and muscles on it. The muscles, fascia, connective tissue, everything deteriorates and gets more stiff with age. That's just the natural entropy aging process. But with these kinds of techniques, we can maintain the health and integrity of these tissues for a long time, but without unnecessary tugging or pulling, which over time can create too much inflammation and stress on the tissues.

What you're going to do is take your knuckles like this and you're going to place them underneath the cheekbones in the front of the face. So, locate that triangular bone, that point where the zygoma and the maxilla meet. And then you're going to scoop the knuckles under a bit to make sure that you get into the ligaments and connective tissue and you get underneath that bone suture. And then you're going to lean the weight of the head forward. This is key. So you can either rest your arms on your chest or you can rest them on a tabletop and you lean the head over into it. The weight of the head is what provides the proper amount of pressure.

And then once you are settled, you need to sink into it. Be in the body. Slow your breathing. Calm your nervous system and allow the tissues to naturally melt and respond to the consistently held pressure. To help this process, you can use visualization. I love to use visualization. You can imagine your muscles melting, spreading out underneath the consistently held pressure. I even imagine a cold stick of butter, sometimes. So, just imagine that your knuckles are pushing into a cold stick of butter and it's consistently spreading and melting the butter because it sounds crazy, but this will help with the brain body link. Your body is going to respond to that visualization. It's the same reason that athletes use visualization.

Once you have held for a while, you can vibrate in place. This is going to further break the neuromuscular habit of clenching and it feels amazing. It's really great for the fascia of the face. The fascia responds wonderfully to vibrational movements, but we're not pulling or tugging across the skin. We don't have to stretch across the skin to stimulate the fascia of the face. We can do that in traditional massage when using oil or glide, but here we stay at a localized area and we're still going to stimulate the piezoelectric effect, which is what stimulates the fascia to remodel itself.

You can do the same thing on top of the masseter underneath the cheekbone on the sides. This is wonderful for jaw tension, for clenching. If your lower half of your face has become more bulky and clamped, it's a way to reduce the masseter bulk without Botox. The same technique applies. You go underneath the cheekbone and then you're going to scoop like this. And then when you vibrate here, you can also push up on the cheekbone a bit.

The holding pressure method is also great for somatic release of tension caused by emotional issues, by stress, by trauma. All of this can get stored in the face. This technique can be used on other areas of the face as well, such as the brows. If you store anger, frustration in the brow area, it's wonderful for working under here. I teach how to do this in my True Face app membership. And it's one of the main techniques that has helped my clients and people who have been in that membership regain their true face, regain their features, their face shape, and also have a somatic emotional release of those emotions stored in the face.

Because the face is such an emotional part of the body. For a lot of people, these emotional factors, stress, trauma, negative emotions like grief, sadness, anger, these are what kicked off the neuromuscular habit that changed the face. That was definitely the case for me. And now that's why I feel so different in my face as well. I used to feel very stiff, very restricted in the way that my face could look and function. I found it hard to smile. I found it hard to look happy naturally and now I do not feel that way. I feel naturally lifted, open, more confident in my face.
