Satyanarayan Puja is the worship of the Narayana form of Lord Vishnu, in order to attain self-purification and blessings. It is the easiest and most inexpensive way to worship the Lord and attain his blessings. Once upon a time, 88,000 sages said to Shri Suka, "O Lord, in this Yuga, how will people without Vidyā get devotion to God, and how will they be saved? Oh best man, say some austerity that will give merit in a short time and get desired results. We want to hear such a story."
The scholar Shri Suka said, "O revered ones among the Vṛṣṇis, all of you have asked about the welfare of men; now I will tell you that excellent fast which Narada had asked Lakshmi Narayana Bhagwan, and Lakshmi Priya had said to Mishra Narada. So listen carefully.
Once upon a time, Yogi Raj Narada went to the world of death, roaming many worlds with the desire for the benefit of others. Seeing all the human beings born in many species here suffering from many miseries according to their karma, he thought, 'By doing what effort will the sufferings of the living beings surely, surely be destroyed?' Thinking this in his mind, he went to Vishnu Lok. There, seeing Ishvara Narayana, the God with white complexion and forearms holding a conch shell, chakra, mace, and palm in their hands, and wearing garlands, he started praising, "Oh Lord, you are very, very powerful; even the mind and speech cannot find you. You do not even have a beginning, middle, and end; you are the form of Nirguna, the originator of the universe and the destroyer of sorrows of the devotees. I salute you."
Hearing this kind of praise from Narada, Lord Vishnu said, "Oh, oh Sage, what's on your mind? For what purpose have you come? Feel free to say." Then Narada Muni said, "All human beings born in many species in the world of death are suffering from various kinds of miseries by their own Karma. Oh Narayana, if you have mercy on me, then tell me how all the miseries of those people can be removed with a little effort."
Lord Vishnu said, "O Narada, you have asked for a perfect thing for the benefit of human beings, the work by which a man is freed from attachment. I say, listen: one who gives a lot of merits in both Heaven and the world of death is an excellent fast. Today I tell you, out of love, by doing this fast of Shri Satyanarayana Bhagwan properly, one attains salvation after enjoying lifelong happiness on Earth."
Hearing the words of Shri Bhagwan, Narada Muni said, "Oh Lord, what is the fruit of that fast? What is the law? Who has observed this fast, and on which day should one observe this fast? Tell me in detail."
Lord Vishnu said, "Narada, one who removes sorrow, increases wealth and good fortune, and gives children—this fast is going to make him victorious in all places with devotion and reverence. On any day, one should worship Shri Satyanarayana in the early morning with the Brahmins and brothers being with devotion. Take fruits, banana fruit, honey, ghee, milk, and wheat flour; in the absence of wheat, powder of Sattu can also be taken, and all things should be offered to God and food to Brahmins, including brothers. Get it done, then eat your own food. Spend time remembering Lord Satyanarayana by organizing dances, songs, etc., during the night. By observing this fast, the wishes of human beings are definitely fulfilled. This is the simplest way of salvation on land, especially during the Cikitsa."

Chapter 2: Suka said, "Oh sages, I tell the history of the one who did this fast for the first time. Listen, listen carefully. A very poor Brahmin lived in the beautiful city of Kashi Pur. He used to roam the Earth restless with hunger and thirst. Seeing the Brahmin sad, the Lord who loved Brahmins took the form of an old Brahmin and asked with respect, 'Oah, why do you roam the Earth constantly in sorrow, oh Brahmin? Tell it all to me; I want to hear.'"
The Brahmin said, "I am a poor Brahmin; I roam the Earth for alms. Oh my God, if you know any way to get rid of this, please let me know."
The old Brahmin said, "Oh Vipra, Lord Satyanarayana is the giver of desired results; that is why you worship him, by doing which a man becomes free from all sorrows. Bhagwan Satyanarayana, who assumed the form of an old Brahmin, after telling the Brahmin about all the rules of fasting, became blind. After deciding that I will do the fast that the old Brahmin has told me, he could not even sleep at night. Waking up early in the morning after deciding to fast for Satyanarayana, he went for alms. On that day he got a lot of money in alms, due to which he, along with his brothers and sisters, fasted for Lord Satyanarayan. By doing this, the Brahmin got rid of all sorrows and became endowed with many types of wealth. From that time, the Brahmin started fasting every month. In this way, the person who does Satyanarayan's fast will be freed from all sorrow. In this way, I told you this fast as told by Lord Satyanarayana to Narada, oh wipers, what shall I say now?"
The sage said, "Oh Sage, hearing from this Brahmin in the world who did this fast, we want to hear all that; for this we have curiosity."
Suka said, "Oh sages, listen to all who have observed this fast at one time. According to the Brahmin's wealth and opulence, he was ready to fast with his brothers and sisters. At the same time, an old man selling wood came and kept the wood outside and went to the Brahmin house. Seeing them fasting, the woodcutter who was suffering from thirst greeted the Brahmin and said, 'What are you doing? What is the result of doing it? Please tell me.' The Brahmin said, 'This is the fast of Lord Satyanarayana, who fulfills all the wishes; due to his grace, there has been an increase in wealth and grain, etc.'"
The woodcutter was very pleased to know about this fast from the Brahmin. After taking Charanam, he went to his house. After eating the Prasad, the next day the woodcutter made such a resolution in his mind that he would do the best fast of Satyanarayana Dev with the money he would get from selling wood in the village. Thinking this in his mind, the old man went to such a beautiful city, keeping the sticks on his head, where the rich people live. That day there he got four times the price of those woods from the first days. Then the old woodcutter took the price and was very pleased and went to his house with the total ingredients of Satyanarayana Lord's fast like ripe bananas, sugar, ghee, milk, etc., and wheat powder, etc. Then he called his brothers and worshiped the Lord with the method and fasted. Due to the effect of that fast, the old woodcutter became full of wealth, Sun, etc., and after enjoying all the pleasures of the world, went to Vaikuntha.

Chapter 3: Suka said, "Oh best sages, now let me tell the next story. Listen. In earlier times, there lived a wise King named Alok. He was a truth-teller and generous. Every day, God used to go to the places and give money to the poor and remove their sufferings. His wife had a lotus-like face and was a Sati. In order to have a son, both of them fasted on Lord Satyanarayana on the banks of the Badila River. At that time, a Vāṇijya named Sadhu came there. He had a lot of money for the business. He stopped the boat on the shore and came to the King, and seeing the King fasting, he started asking with humility, 'O King, what are you doing with a devotional mind? I want to hear, so you tell me this.'"
The King said, "O Vāṇijya, with my brothers and sisters, I am fasting and worshiping the super-powerful Lord Satyanarayana for the attainment of a son."
Hearing the words of the King, the sage said respectfully, "Oh King, tell me all the rules of this; I will also do this fast according to your statement. I also do not have any children; I believe that by observing this fast, it will definitely happen." After listening to all the laws of the King, he retired from business and went to his house with joy. The sage narrated this fast to his wife, giving children, and vowed that when I have a child, he will do this fast. If the monk made such a promise that his wife would have a child, then I would do this fast. The sage such words to his wife, Lilavati. One day, his wife Lilavati rejoiced with her husband, becoming engaged in worldly religion; Satyanarayana became pregnant by the grace of God, and in the 10th month, a beautiful daughter was born to her. Day by day, it started growing like the moon of Shukla Paksha. The girl was named Cavati. Then Lilavati told her husband in sweet words that whatever you had resolved to do, the fast of God, now you should do it. The monk said, "Oh dear, I will do it on marriage." Thus assuring his wife, he went to the city. Cavati attained growth in the father's house. When the sage saw his daughter with friends in the city, he immediately called a messenger and said that he should bring a suitable groom for the daughter. On receiving the orders of the monk, the messenger reached Kinnagar and after taking great care there, brought a suitable merchant's son for her. Seeing that worthy boy, the sage, along with his brothers and sisters, was pleased and married his daughter to him. But unfortunately, he forgot to observe that fast even at the time of marriage. Then Lord Satyanarayana got angry and cursed the Sadhu that they will get severe sorrow.
Wasia, a skilled monk in his work, went to Ratnapura city near the sea, along with his Jamaata and their both father-in-law and Jamai Chetā, started doing business in that city of the King. One day, inspired by the illusion of Lord Satyanarayana, a thief was running away after stealing the King's money, but seeing the King's messengers coming, the thief ran away and kept the money silently where he was staying. When the messengers saw the King's wealth kept with that Sage Vāṇijya, they tied both of them and took them near the King and said, "Oh King, we have caught these two thieves; let us see." Then, on the orders of the King, put in harsh imprisonment and took away all their money. Due to the curse of Lord Satyanarayana, the wife and daughter of the sage Vāṇijya were also very sad. On the ground, thieves stole the money that was kept at his house, and being very pained by physical and mental pain and hunger and thirst, Cavati went to a Brahmin's house in concern for food. There she saw Satyanarayana fasting, then listened to the story and came home at night after receiving the Prasad. Mother said to Cavati, "Oh daughter, where have you been so far, and what is on your mind?" Cavati said, "Oh mother, I have seen the fasting of Lord Satyanarayana in the house of a Brahmin." Hearing the words of the girl, Lilavati started preparing for the worship of God. Lilavati worshiped Lord Satyanarayana along with family and brothers and asked for a boon that my husband and son-in-law should come home soon, also prayed that we all forgive the crime. Lord Satyanarayana was satisfied with this fast and appeared in a dream to King Chandraketu and said, "Oh King, you have taken both the Vāṇijya captive; they are innocent; release them in the morning and give them all the money that you have received; otherwise, I will destroy your wealth, kingdom, daughters at sea." The Lord disappeared after saying such words to the King. In the morning, King Chandru narrated his dream in the meeting, then freed both the sons of the merchants and called them to the meeting. Both of them greeted the King as soon as he arrived. The King said with sweet words, "Oh noble Brahmin, you have received such a difficult misery in the future; now you have no fear." Seeing this, the King got them dressed in new clothes and sent them with respect by paying double the money they had taken. Both the Vāṇijas went to their homes.

Chapter 4: Suka said, "Sadhu Bāṇiya, after the invocation and giving money to two Brahmins, left for his city. After the Sadhu went some distance, Lord Satyanarayana got curious about the test of his truthfulness. 'So, what is in your boat?' Then both the moneylenders, who were stunned by money, laughed defiantly and said, 'Dandi Sannyasi, why are you asking? Want to take some currency? Our boat is full of creepers and leaves at sea.'"
Hearing such a cruel voice, he said, "May your words come true." Saying this, the Lord, taking the form of a Dandi Sannyasi, went some distance and sat near the sea. After performing routine actions after the departure of Dandi, that is, seeing the boat raised upwards in the water, the monk was very surprised and fainted on seeing the creeper and leaves, etc., in the boat and fell on the Earth. On being alert, Vāṇik Kuṭa became worried. Then his son-in-law said, "In this way, why do you grieve? The punishment has given an indication; in this situation, if he wants, he can do everything; there is no doubt about it; therefore, we should take refuge in him where the desire of the mind will be fulfilled." Hearing the son-in-law, the sage Bāṇiya went to him, and seeing the punishment there, he bowed down to him with devotion and started saying respectfully, "Whatever I have said in front of you, untruthful speech, or has committed a crime, you forgive that offense of Mine." By saying this repeatedly, he became distraught with great grief. Seeing him weeping, Dandi said, "Oh fool, don't cry; listen to me. Because of being indifferent to my worship and because of my orders, you have repeatedly suffered."
The monk said, "Oh Lord, it is astonishing that even the Gods like Rama cannot know your qualities and forms as they are, due to being enchanted by your illusion; then how can I, a fool, be fascinated by your illusion? No, you are happy; I will worship you according to my wealth; I have come under your shelter; protect me and all the wealth that I had in the boat." Lord Janardana was satisfied after hearing that Bāṇiya's devotional voice; Lord Hari disappeared thereafter, giving him the desired boon. After that, the monk got into his boat and saw him full of wealth and food. By the grace of Lord Satyanarayana, his desire became successful. He duly worshiped the Lord along with his relatives by saying that by the grace of Lord Shri Satyanarayana, he became full of joy, and after handling the boat diligently, he left for his country.
Sadhu Bāṇiya said to his son-in-law, "Look at that; my Ratnapuri city is visible." After this, he sent the messenger of his wealth to his city to inform them about his arrival. After that, the messenger went to the city and bowed his hands to see the wife of the monk and said, "The desired thing for him, sage, with his son-in-law and relatives has come near the city after being endowed with a lot of money and food." The messenger hearing this from her mouth, she was very happy, and thus, they worshiped Shri Satyanarayana and said to her daughter, "I am going to see the monk; you come soon." After listening to such a word from the mother, she ended the fast and offered Prasad. Abandoning her, Cavati also went to see her husband. Thus angered Lord Satyanarayana, and he drowned her husband and the boat along with the money and drowned her in the water. After this, the Cavati girl fell to the Earth crying with great grief, not seeing her husband. Seeing the sight of the boat and seeing the girl very sad, the sage Bāṇiya thought with a frightened heart what was the surprise. Everyone who operated the boat also got worried. After that, Lilavati also became stunned on seeing the girl and lamenting with great sadness said to her husband, "In this way, how did he become unimpressed with the boat just now? Don't know which Dev's neglect that boat was taken away, or who can know the greatness of Shri Satyanarayana?" Cavati girl also became sad at the loss of her husband and decided in her mind to follow her husband's footpath. Seeing this kind of behavior of the girl, the virtuous Sadhu Bāṇiya along with his wife became very sad and started thinking, "Either Lord Satyanarayana has kidnapped this, or we are all fascinated by the illusion of Lord Satyanarayana. According to my money power, I will worship Lord Shri Satyanarayana." Calling everyone like this, he expressed his heart's desire and repeatedly bowed to Lord Satyanarayana. Displeased Lord Satyanarayana, the guardian of the poor, Lord Bhagwan graciously said to Akashvani, "Your daughter has left the Prasad and has gone to see her husband; definitely because of this, her husband has become invisible. If he comes again after going home after taking Prasad, then your daughter will get the husband; there is no doubt about it." Cavati also went home soon after hearing such a voice from the sky and took the Prasad, came again, and saw relatives and her husband. Then Cavati girl said to her father, "Now let's go home; why are you delaying?" Vāṇik Kuṭa was satisfied after hearing that girl's words and worshiped Lord Satyanarayana by law and went to his house with wealth and brothers and sisters. After that, while worshipping Lord Satyanarayana at the Purnima and Sankranti festivals, enjoying happiness in this world, he finally went to Satapura Vaikuntha.

Chapter 5: Suka said, "Best sages, now after this, I will tell another story; you guys listen. There was a king named Tada, who was ready to obey his subjects. He got sorrowful by giving up the offerings of such a day. Once he came under the banyan tree after killing many animals in the forest; there he saw that the Gopa, satisfied with their brothers and sisters, were worshiping Lord Satyanarayana with devotion. Even after seeing this, the King neither went there out of ego nor did he bow down to Lord Satyanarayana. After worship, all the Gopas returned from the place, keeping God's Prasad near the King, and they all accepted the Lord's Prasad as per their wish. Here the King was very sad to give up the Prasad; all his wealth and food, and all hundred Sons were destroyed. The King decided in his mind that surely Lord Satyanarayana has destroyed us; that's why I should go to the place where Shri Satyanarayana was worshiped. Having decided this in his mind, he went near the King Gopa Gun, and he worshiped Lord Satyanarayana methodically with the Gopas, having devotion, reverence. By the grace of Lord Satyanarayana, he again became full of wealth and Sons, and after enjoying all the pleasures in this world, he finally attained Satapura Vaikuntha."
Shri Suka says, "The person who observes this very rare fast of Shri Satyanarayana and listens with devotion to the story of God, who is virtuous and fruitful, gets wealth and grain, etc. By the grace of Lord Satyanarayana, the poor become rich; the one who is in bondage becomes free from the bondage; and a frightened person becomes free from fear. This is a fact; there is no doubt about it. In this world, after getting enjoyment of all the desired fruits, he finally goes to Satapura Vaikuntha. Oh Brahmins, thus I told you to observe the fast of Lord Satyanarayana, by which one becomes free from all sorrows. In Kali Yuga, worship of Lord Satyanarayana was going to give special results. Some people call Lord Vishnu Kala, some people Satya, some Ish, and some Sat, and others name him Satyanarayana, by taking many forms. Lord Satyanarayana approves everyone's wishes in Kali Yuga. The eternal Lord Vishnu will be the one to fulfill everyone's wishes by taking the form of Satyanarayana. Oh best sages, the person who reads and listens to this Katha of Lord Satyanarayana regularly, all his sins are destroyed by the grace of Lord Satyanarayana. Oh sages, I tell the story of the next birth of those who had fasted for Lord Satyanarayana in the past. Listen to you guys. Due to the effect of fasting Satyanarayana, a Brahmin named Satana and a great Prajna became a Brahmin named Sudama in his second birth and attained salvation by meditating on Lord Krishna in that birth. The woodcutter became the king of the caves, and in the next life, he attained salvation by serving Lord Krishna. King Alok became King Dasharatha in his second birth and after worshiping Shri Ranganatha finally attained Vaikuntha. Similarly, due to the influence of Satyanarayana in the previous birth, a religious and Sat Sage became a king named Modage in the second birth; he attained salvation by cutting through Asau and offering half the body of his son."
To Lord Vishnu Maharaja, Tadj became Swam Bua Manu after birth. And after performing all the rituals related to God, he attained Vacun, attained Vacun Talok. All the Gopas who lived in the Rajim Mandal, after birth became Gopas. And after killing all the demons, they also attained the Eternal of God, Golok, Golok. Glory to Shri Satyanarayan Bhagan.
