The image itself is a mystery. It is unexplainable.
The image on the shroud is not painted, drawn, or dyed. No pigment or brush strokes have been found on it. When viewed as a negative image, it appears more detailed and lifelike. This is something that wasn't understood until it was first photographed in 1898.
The image also contains 3D information, which is extremely rare. When processed by image analyzers like the NASA VP8, it produces a three-dimensional relief, unlike typical photographs or paintings. So, it produces like a topographical 3D shape. Amazing.
The marks on the shroud match exactly with the wounds of the crucifixion of Jesus. Now, this is going to be really amazing. And this is one of the strong evidences that supports the fact that this shroud really seems to be that of Jesus.
The blood stains on the head are compatible with a crown of thorns. And the crown wasn't like a ring that you might see. It was more like a helmet, a full crown, so to speak. And that poked into the head of Jesus producing a lot of blood. And what's interesting is on the top of the head, it's very, very sensitive. So we can see all throughout the head of Jesus marks from this crown of thorns. And what's interesting is that no person in recorded history in the Roman Empire was ever crucified with the crown of thorns. So just validates it and is compatible consistent with that of Jesus's crucifixion.
