– You make no decisions.

– Why do people wait?

– Maybe things will resolve by themselves… well, they won’t, and you’ll get your ass kicked.

– What’s the point in being a village champion?

– You’re a fool.

– No idea how the brain works, hah.

– I hate it.

– And you’re told to get lost.

– At least I’ve got this experience.

– Don’t get yourself to a critical point.

– I’m changing my mind.

HOW DO SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE MAKE DECISIONS?

– Igor, I’d like to talk to you about a very important topic of decision-making. It takes great effort for people to make decisions – it takes two years to think about marriage, it takes three years to choose a profession and decide which university to enter, and the decision is made at the very last moment.

Have you seen anything like it, and how can you explain taking too long to make an important decision?

– Why do people wait? The first reason: a person waits for the situation to become critical. You know, when pigs begin to fly. When the peasants come and thrust the landlord with a hayfork, then the landlord says, “Alright, alright, I’ll give you a pay rise.” Or a person waits, his/her debts are growing, he/she does nothing, the job doesn’t bring income, and so on. Collectors come and knock and ring the door; well, the situation’s critical. Only that makes a person take the next action.

Maybe things will resolve by themselves… well, they won’t, and you’ll get your ass kicked. That ass kick is by no means magic; it’s traumatic, it leaves a big dent on the ass – well, it’s the ass in a good case. And what if it’s on the heart, on your soul? What if your legs are broken? What if you have a fork in your throat?

Don’t get yourself to a critical point; when the pigs finally learned to fly, it’s awful to get out of this situation.

Reason number two: you don’t like your job for a long time – a year, 2, 3, 10 years. A person works worse and worse because he/she doesn’t like it; he/she treats it as drudgery. The boss sees it, and in 10 years, the boss finally makes a decision to sack this person. I’ve told you now the second reason – waiting for others to make a decision about you and tell you to get lost. These were two reasons.

But there’s also a third one, especially delicious, so strong, so powerful; I call it a package – a package full of shit. So, the contents of the package full of shit are the first two reasons in a pack, and you wait for the pigs to fly or for someone to tell you to get lost; that’s the only way you live. You make no decisions, you get it?

Only when the fork is already in your throat and you’re told to get lost, that’s why your whole life is crippled and this is what it looks like. So, for everyone who recognized the first or the second case in themselves, guys, you can get away; you can and should. This book helps the ones who are in the first or the second case.

That can be cured; not exactly cured, it can be easily compensated for. It means you still have an area in your mind, heart, or body where new ways to live can enter. And if you’ve diagnosed the third case, the package full of shit, there’s a way to act – to take a break, to confess that you’re a “happy owner” of this package, to remember, I’m telling you it’s not your fault that you own this package. It often happens because you lived among people like this and automatically soaked up these patterns.

Ask for external help at this moment. If you don’t come to people at this moment, this package only works in one way; let me remind you, only 10% of the people stuck in this package survive.

Please excuse me for my “obscene” language today – there’s no other way to name it; deep shit is deep shit, it can’t be called any other way.

– Do successful and business people make decisions quickly, as a rule?

– They are, as a rule, quicker in making decisions. That’s true. They are better trained and prepared, and the symptom of this preparedness is more precise, more precise and swifter decision-making. I would add the word ‘precision’ to the word ‘swiftness’. That’s very important because if you quickly made a silly decision, that’s not very good and can even be very bad. At every iteration, at every microiteration, the one who is more precise, even by a little bit – a little more precise, a little swifter – is more successful.

– I know there are situations in business when there’s no time at all to think something over.

– Yes.

– Can you tell us a story when there’s no time to think? And how does the brain work in this situation?

– No idea how the brain works, hah. In business, for example, I’m sitting down and contracting several freight cars with glass fabric, a deficient raw material, and suddenly overhear the sales manager saying they have nothing left at the factory. I was contracting 3 cars, and there are other 3 cars left, while the next substantial shipment will be delivered only in 2 weeks.

And I realize the following: if I buy other 3 cars – I have no idea where I’ll get the money, but it’s not the main point now – there will be instant deficiency in the market; that means I’ll be able to raise the price of my products and no one will be able to produce the goods in the nearest month and offer a lower price. All that happened in an instant. I say, “Invoice 6 cars for me.”

I instantly rush to the commercial director’s office; he doesn’t have this information about the circumstances yet, and I do, so I tell him, “Look, I’ve decided to contract more products at once,” we sign this contract, he countersigns it, I countersign it, that’s it.

I sigh, the phone rings, he picks up the phone, and someone says, “I need fabric, dammit! I need fabric! Make out an invoice; we’re calling them, and they say there’s no fabric left; this Rybakov bought it all.”

Then he puts the phone down, looks at me, and says, “You’re a goddamn….” There should be preparedness for this. But preparedness doesn’t come from nowhere; it’s a level of training; these are little and bigger situations of this kind that happen all the time.

How to train such situations? Simply to put yourself into uncertainty in a way so that you use any circumstances to your advantage.

– An association with an experienced driver has come to my mind. Does it look like making a decision when you’re in emergency on the road when all you have is a split second but you manage to think where to turn? Does it have anything to do with it?

– Absolutely. I’m sure many people have been in such situations in the areas where they are masters. It happens sometimes that you don’t think, but your hands reach somewhere by themselves and do everything. People land planes in critical situations. But that happens when a person has trained.

And people don’t land planes when they haven’t had enough training, when the situation was less critical. That’s why it’s very important to train yourself among the ones who are really good at this.

Because things can suddenly turn out like “I’ve trained, I’m training”; it’s no use if you run 100 meters or long distances at a stadium in a village among countryboys.

What’s the point in being a village champion? That’s why it’s very important to go and train among the people who are doing it at a significant level – by world standards, national standards, or, I don’t know, at a federal-district level.

In fact, a person becomes like the one he/she associates him-/herself with. That’s why I always say, “You’ll be like the one who is your teacher and who you associate yourself with.”

– A lot of schoolchildren watch us, and very often I see the following question in the comments: “Igor, which profession should I choose?” or “Igor, should I enter a college after the 9th grade or keep studying at school?”

I understand why these questions are asked – we’re often told the following: “When completing your school studies, you’re to make a fateful decision; your life depends on it. Now you’re to choose what you’ll become.”

What advice would you give to these guys?

– Dear schoolchildren! Look at the grown-ups. If you listen to their advice, take notice of whether they’ve made significant progress in their lives.

Who do you listen to? Almost no one, well, few grown-ups pursue the profession they studied for in college or at university. So, nothing – really nothing – depends on where you’ll go and study. You may enter a college or stay at school and so on – the most important is to look for passionate people; make for places where you can make money and don’t stay in no-money places – in places where you’re told like, “Guys, there’s no money now, but there’ll be some in 20 years.” Just flee from such places.

Don’t burn your life like “I’m a painter; I’ll work for pennies.” Enough. Multiply your money, no matter what you engage in, look for people with whom you’ll hatch a conspiracy and have this flow and co-creation that result in a business that engages you.

Look for people with whom you’ll set out on a fascinating journey of your life. This is the advice I give to each and every schoolchild.

– Is it possible to re-make an already made decision? I mean, we’re used to keeping the decision we’ve made; a macho guy’s word is law, no way back. Well, can one go back on their word?

– Tsarist Russia perpetuated a myth that came down to our days – the officer’s word. It was important for the Russian Empire, with its enormous territories, that people kept this pattern since there were no other ways, like digital ones and so on, to see what they were doing there.

Whatever, that was the only way to cultivate a certain pattern in people – to stick to their words. That method was applied in those specific historical circumstances.

Now let’s have a look at the life circumstances of a person. If a person sees that the way of acting he/she decided earlier leads to his/her torment, stress, loss, pain, or suffering, isn’t that enough to change the behavior and stop feeling ill, suffering, and being under stress? Isn’t that enough?

Justice is served exactly when a person says, “Enough, I’m changing my mind.” So, it’s not that a word doesn’t matter anything; that’s not about it. The world changes, and what we’ve decided under specific circumstances can be very harmful for us, for our family, for people around us, for the world, for the environment, for anything under other circumstances.

That’s why standing your ground like a fool, like an idol, is just stupid. It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have principles; of course, you should, but you should have principles that put your flexibility, your proactivity, your adaptivity, and your ability to act under changing circumstances at the forefront.

That’s what your principles should be, not the principle “The decision was made 10 years ago; I shall follow it.” It only means you’re a fool if you do that.

– Psychologists suggest plenty of ways to make decisions when it’s hard for you to do it. For example, to make a table of pros and cons and, respectively, to make a decision based on that table.

I can confess that I myself used it once, but in my case, pros and cons were 50/50. And that often happens with difficult decisions; that’s exactly why you can’t make it.

What’s your attitude to such ways; do they work? Maybe you use something yourself?

– What table are we talking about when you feel bad? You’ll feel bad both with this table and without it. You’ll feel bad having listened to a motivator’s lecture and without doing so. You’ll still feel bad.

Magic powers of the morning, time management, all this crap. Look, guys, I hate that. I hate the ones who mislead other people. I hate the ones who don’t mention side effects. Most of them act like this.

The only way to go when you feel bad is to go to the people who also felt bad for the same reason but managed to break free, and they will help you.

Oleg Tinkov was taken ill with cancer; he felt really bad, he still feels bad. He created a 200 million-dollar foundation for the people who have leukemia.

Having had this bad experience, he will now help thousands of people who also feel bad, he will. A person who went through something often helps the ones who find themselves in this situation. I’ve given you the example. I’m the same kind of person.

Why am I busy now with the Rybakov Foundation, education projects for the family, to increase protection and quality of life? I’ve been through these conditions; now I help people get through them and get back to a decent and active life and not to live in shit.

You should address such people, not the tables.

– Do you prefer working with swift decision-makers rather than the ones who consider everything and then, after a certain time, make a decision?

– I’ve just tried out different combinations: a team where everyone’s swift, accurate enough; a team where everyone’s slow and very thoughtful; and then I tried out hybrid teams that consist of swift and accurate people, slow but thoughtful and also very accurate.

And there are even other people in these teams who are neither swift nor accurate; they fulfill other roles, for example, integrative. Because swift and accurate people keep being in conflict with thoughtful and accurate people.

That’s why there should be people in the team who would say, “Guys, guys! There should be different styles. In order to win a war, or survive better, or prosper better, we have both snipers and Katyushas. If anything, we’ll hit anyone with a salvo.”

Such hybrid teams are statistically much more productive and efficient than only one of the manifestations.

– Have you ever made decisions that you regretted and understood that a wrong decision was made? What did you do to that mistake?

– If it happens that I see that the decision was not very good, I now have the information that this type of decision can be not very good in this situation, but at least I’ve got this experience, as I say.

The only thing why I quickly pass through the pressure of regret like “Damn, I should have done it differently,” is because I remember my trigger: regret is a fruit of forgetfulness.

What is it about? It’s very simple – the algorithm is the following: when I made a decision, I thought everything over, put everything on the scales; we all do that. At the moment I forgot that I gave it a freaking great thought.

Regret is a poison, almost fatal. Look at how many people drive themselves to despair by those regrets, torture themselves day and night, and die of it as a result.

That’s why, thanks to this trigger that regret is a fruit of forgetfulness, I get myself out of this condition very quickly – like, “Come on, let’s go on.”

Now there are new conditions, new circumstances, and once again we start doing magic about which decision to make without regrets.

Ha-ha-ha! What’s that? That’s the Gold Creator Award. Why? That’s because I have more than a million subscribers on my YouTube channel, all that thanks to you. Your energy, your queries, your questions, my answers.
