Here are 2 Timothy chapters 3 verses 16 and 17. We will read them together. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Amen. This is the word of God.

So, on Sundays, it might be a little boring, but we are having a series of doctrinal sermons for a few weeks to lay the foundation for the members of our Sunmoon Church, learning what we truly believe as Christians. In our first session, titled "The Church of Sumoa," we looked at what the church truly is, and what kind of church pleases God. Last week, we heard the story of Nicodemus and precisely clarified what baptism is and its meaning. We clearly examined whether baptism is something anyone can receive after attending church for about six months to a year, or if it is a rite that makes one a true member of God's church only when there is a precise confession of faith.

Therefore, today we will explore together what the Bible truly is. You might find the title itself quite boring, but please bear with me for a little while. Why wouldn't I want to tell the exciting stories of the Bible? We will move on to the content of the Bible after we establish this foundation. The reason I talk so much about this foundation is that if you read the Bible without this foundation, you will end up interpreting it according to your own desires, completely unrelated to God's intentions, when you do your quiet time, meditate on the Word, and study the Scriptures. Therefore, you must have a solid foundation and make it a habit to read the Bible in this way to truly understand what the Bible is saying.

I am a supporter of Reformed Theology. We call it "Reformed." People who believe in Reformed Theology explain the word "Reformed" using the concept from a Korean dictionary. So, when people hear "Reformed," they think of creating something new and pursuing something new. They think that "Reformed" is about deviating from what currently exists and creating something new. However, the word "Reformed" used in contexts like church reform originally meant returning to the right way from a state of corruption. Therefore, "Reformed" means returning to the original form.

So, what do people who believe in Reformed Theology and Presbyterianism believe? They believe in "Sola Scriptura," "Solus Christus," "Sola Fide," "Sola Gratia," and "Soli Deo Gloria." Once again, "Sola Scriptura," "Solus Christus," "Sola Fide," "Sola Gratia," and "Soli Deo Gloria." These are the five things that people who believe in the Reformed faith believe with their lives. However, many people, when asked how they were saved, say, "By grace alone." They say, "Saved by grace alone," but they misunderstand the definition of "grace." Therefore, when asked if they can go to heaven if they die today, they feel uneasy. "Well, considering the sins I've committed since waking up this morning, I'm not confident." Those who cannot answer immediately have not clearly grasped the meaning of grace.

Grace is a gift given freely to those who do not deserve it. It is not grace if it is given to someone who has the ability to repay it. We call it grace and a gift when it is given freely to those who have no ability to repay and no right to receive it. We believe that this is faith, and this faith is given to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Knowing this, we can only give glory to God alone. This is what we believe. These five things. Therefore, among these five things we believe, we will examine what the Bible truly is, which is very important.

Is the Bible truly written by God? Are you a true Christian who recognizes this Bible as the Word of God? Please check and return. Some say Christianity is a religion of experience. Is Christianity truly a religion of experience? Christianity is a religion where we recognize Jesus as truly Jesus as we experience one thing after another after believing in Jesus. That is a contradiction in terms; those who say that truly do not know what Christianity is. Christianity is not a religion of experience, but a religion of revelation. This is the one thing that distinguishes Christianity from all other religions.

In other religions, people create idols and gods to obtain what they need and to seek those gods through their own zeal and effort, through meditation and asceticism. In Christianity, God seeks us out when we are dead. These two are vastly different. Yet, there are people who believe in Christianity inside the church as if they were believing in other pagan religions. That is why words like "religion of experience" or "what kind of religion" come out. If Christianity is a religion of revelation, then God must reveal Himself to us so that we can know Him. If it is a religion where He seeks us out, then He must explain Himself to us so that we can know Him.

Thus, God reveals Himself to us in two ways. The first is general revelation, which informs us that God truly exists through humans, the universe, and nature. For example, looking at the sun and moon in the sky, we wonder how the sun and moon have remained in the sky for thousands of years without a single deviation, caring for this earth. How has the sea remained in its place for thousands of years without ever crossing its boundary? If a tsunami were to occur, the sea could cause a great upheaval, and the earth could be submerged. How does the sea maintain its place? By looking at these things, at the order of the universe, natural phenomena, and the universe, we can infer that there is a Creator who governs this universe. This is called general revelation.

The Bible says in Psalm 19:1, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Romans 1:20 states, "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse." This is why sinners cannot be excused when they go to hell: God has made it clear through the created universe that God exists. That is general revelation.

The second way God reveals Himself, the way He explains Himself, is through special revelation, which is the Bible, and we will examine it today. The Bible was written over 1,500 years. It began with Moses writing the Pentateuch – Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy – around 1500 BC, and continued until the New Testament, written by the apostles after Jesus Christ died and resurrected. The Bible was written over a long period of nearly 1,500 years. And there are about 40 authors of the Bible. The Bible is a book written by about 40 authors over 1,000 years. The Old Testament was finalized as the current 39 books, excluding many other apocryphal books, at the Council of Jamnia in 90 BC. The New Testament was finalized as the current 27 books in AD 397, which is the 4th century.

So, the Bible was not created somewhere and dropped down to us. It was written over 1,000 years by about 40 authors, and its canonization was completed around the 4th century. Therefore, unlike what Mormons say, "We found a scripture in a cave somewhere, and it's the Book of Mormon, which is very mysterious and transcendent." Our Bible was written within human history and by about 40 authors from different places. So, its mystery is somewhat reduced. However, we firmly believe that this Bible was written by God and that it speaks of only one theme. That is what it means to be a Christian.

Furthermore, the division of chapters and verses in the Bible occurred in 1551. In the early 16th century, when God wrote the Bible through His people, there were no divisions of chapters and verses. So, it was one continuous text from beginning to end. However, when conducting services, it was too time-consuming to find a specific passage by saying, "the 1266th line from the beginning of Genesis." So, laypeople divided it into chapters and verses. Therefore, some people, when reading the Bible, might mistakenly think that a different story is being told when the chapter changes. So, when reading the Bible, you should develop the habit of reading it continuously without regard to chapter and verse divisions.

In addition, they have added subheadings. So, people assume, "This story must be about this," and enter it, preventing us from grasping the true meaning of what the Bible is saying. While you can refer to subheadings, you should not think that the Bible is necessarily only about that story. The Bible is a collection of stories written by God, inspired by His people, about God, without regard to chapter and verse divisions. Therefore, we who believe in Reformed Theology believe in the doctrine of verbal inspiration. We believe that every single letter is involved by God. Because of this, we believe the Bible is inerrant; there is no story that deviates from God's intention, not even a single letter.

Nevertheless, in this era, many leading seminaries have been corrupted. They do not recognize Jesus as God. They treat the miracle of Jesus' birth, the story of His virgin birth, as mere mythology. They do not believe in the numerous miracles Jesus performed. Furthermore, they do not believe in the resurrection of the dead. A senior fellow from my seminary was writing his doctoral dissertation and submitted it to his advisor for review. As the professor read the dissertation, he came across a brief mention of the resurrection of Christ. The seminary professor supervising this doctoral dissertation chuckled and said, "Are there still people who believe Jesus was resurrected?" He then added, "Are there still people who believe Jesus is the Son of God? He is merely a very excellent prophet, not the Son of God."

People who have been taught this way are now being ordained as pastors and are pastoring churches. To them, the Bible is merely a worthless guide to conduct, full of errors. Many intellectuals are falling into liberal theology. Those who practice liberal theology have a lot of money, and they are even more neat and clean. Therefore, people are increasingly drawn to that direction.

The Bible is one book with one theme, written by God alone. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible consistently speaks of one single theme. What is that theme? Jesus Christ. If you try to find ways to live well, to live cleanly, to succeed, or to make money through the Bible, you are reading the Bible incorrectly. There is not a single verse in the Bible that speaks of such things. From Genesis to Exodus to Revelation, the Bible is all about Jesus Christ. The Bible kindly explains how Adam and Eve, naked in Genesis, will be clothed in white robes of righteousness in the new heavens and new earth. The entire Old Testament explains only Jesus Christ. We examined this in detail during our Wednesday Bible study.

In Genesis, Adam and Eve sin and fall. They must die. God made a covenant: "You will surely die if you eat from it." But in Genesis 3:15, God gives the proto-evangelium, the first gospel: "You will live through the offspring of the woman." The Bible faithfully and fully fulfills this covenant until Revelation. Thus, the fallen human race is continually drawn by God's zeal and enters Canaan during the time of Joshua. This explains the history of human salvation. Then, after entering Canaan, what happens? In the book of Judges, humans fall again, and God's heart aches. They fall again. God sends judges to rescue them, and this continues until 2 Samuel. There, Solomon builds the temple. The temple signifies the new heavens and new earth, the true temple, Jesus Christ. With the building of that temple, it ends there. Then, in the books of Kings, humans fall again. They fall again, and later, in Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther, they build the temple again. And it ends there again. This is a progressive method of revelation.

And in Esther, the feast, the wedding feast of the Lamb, the feast of heaven, is described in detail. Then, the books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon, the wisdom literature, explain who that true wisdom is, who can lead us to the feast of heaven. Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes all explain Jesus Christ. They explain who Jesus Christ is. And the love story between Solomon and the Shulamite woman in the Song of Solomon is not just that; it explains how God and His people will live in love in the heavenly kingdom. After explaining the reality of Jesus Christ, it again explains the fall of humanity and salvation. In Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Hosea, God speaks again, saying, "You have fallen. It is not right. You are in big trouble." The prophets continually speak, and later, in Haggai and Zechariah, the temple is completed again. The temple explains again how fallen humans are led to these new heavens and new earth.

Then, in Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, God says, "Behold, I am leading you, teaching you, and bringing you to these new heavens and new earth. But ultimately, you cannot do it by your own strength." He says, "Close the temple doors. I am tired of your formal worship and formal service." And God speaks directly: "Now I will do it. I will break into your lives and accomplish that work." And then Matthew's Gospel opens. And the light, Jesus Christ, comes and breaks into the lives of us sinners, who were full of chaos, emptiness, and darkness, drives away all that darkness, and makes us new people. This is what the Gospels explain.

The first day, second day, third day, fourth day, fifth day, and sixth day of creation in Genesis, and the seventh day of rest. In the Gospel of John, it is said that the reality of this has come. On the first day, light comes. On the second day, Jesus is baptized. On the following day, Jesus stays with His disciples, showing the symbol of the new heavens and new earth. On the fourth, fifth, and sixth days, the twelve disciples, the twelve disciples who are God's people, are gathered. In Genesis, what happened on the fourth, fifth, and sixth days? There were events that filled the framework. This shows that the reality of those stories has come and is completing salvation.

Then, in the Gospel of John, Nicodemus appears and asks, "Do you know what salvation is? Do you think salvation can be achieved through your background, your conditions, your studies, and your efforts?" It shows that salvation cannot be achieved with even 1% of your own efforts. Through Nicodemus, it shows that none of your own qualifications can be involved in salvation. Then, the Samaritan woman appears, and by saving her, who had no basis for salvation, it explains, "Look, this is how such people are saved." Then, it connects to the man who had been ill for 38 years. Who is the man who had been ill for 38 years? He is someone who, by his own strength, cannot go down to the pool even if it is stirred a thousand times. Only such a person can look to the heavens without looking at the pool. Only those who acknowledge that they can do nothing by their own strength, without looking at the pool, can look to the heavens and receive salvation.

Then, it shows the abundance of the eternal new heavens and new earth that we will enjoy when salvation comes to us. This is shown through the miracle of feeding the five thousand. It shows that the abundance of heaven is such that after eating, twelve baskets remain. This is what the Bible speaks of. The book of Acts shows how the gospel given to us through Jesus Christ, the new life given to us through the death and cross of Jesus Christ, is applied to God's people through the Holy Spirit. Romans explains all of this doctrinally. And from 1 Corinthians to the book of Jude, the epistles, which can be called the New Covenant on Mount Sinai, are the guidelines for Christians' conduct. How should you live? How will the world attack you? You will overcome them in this way and that way. And those who overcome will enter and live forever in the new heavens and new earth. The book of Revelation describes that heavenly kingdom.

The Bible consistently speaks only of Jesus Christ. Let's turn to Luke 24:25. "He said to them, 'How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?' And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself." The two disciples going down to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus Christ. So, Jesus Christ told them about the Scriptures. What Scriptures did Jesus Christ tell them about at that time? It was the Old Testament. When Jesus explained the Old Testament to the disciples, they recognized Him as Jesus. What was that story? It says, "what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself." The Old Testament is all about Jesus. The Bible clearly explains this to us. The Bible is written only about Jesus.

Look at John 8:56. "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day and he saw it and was glad." Abraham lived in what era? He lived in the era of Abraham, 4,000 years ago. Did he see Jesus Christ? It says he waited for the time of Jesus Christ and saw it. Look at John 12:41. "Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke about him." Isaiah lived in what era? He saw the glory of the Lord and spoke about Him. Isaiah saw Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11:24 says, "By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking as to his reward." Moses lived 1,500 years before Christ. The suffering he endured, the power he received, was for the sake of Christ. Did he even see Christ? Yet, why is it called power received for the sake of Christ? The Old Testament explains Jesus Christ. We will explain each of these one by one during our Bible study. Bring me any structure, and I can explain it all in terms of Jesus Christ.

From Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," to the last verse of Revelation 22:21, "The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people! Amen," the Bible consistently explains only Jesus. Now, that Jesus, the reality, who was prophesied and foretold, has come. Do we still need revelation or prophecy about Jesus on this earth? Is it necessary or not? He came, accomplished His work, and explained what that work was, and then ascended. So, has God's message to us through the Bible been completed? Therefore, do we still need prophecy or revelation? No longer. The Bible is now complete.

Hebrews 1:1-2 says, "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in many ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe." In the past, God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets in many parts and in many ways. He prophesied, revealed, and gave things to God's people. But in these last days, He has spoken to us through His Son, the reality, who has come and completed that word. Hebrews 1:1-2 clearly states this. Yet, even today, people chase after prophecy and revelation. Some say they receive God's revelation when they wake up in the morning. Many pastors receive God's revelation and use it to threaten and persuade God's people, the lambs.

Revelation and prophecy will not come down to this earth again. The Bible never records a passage that is a prophecy about an individual's future. Bring it to me, and I will explain what it is. The Bible does not record a single word about predicting an individual's fortune or misfortune, or about foretelling an individual's future. Yet, many people do. I have seen several people who are pastors of large churches who fly to Hawaii to receive prophecies from a prophet. What is it that we want to know about our future? What is it that we want to know about our future through prophecy? It is our fortune or misfortune in this life, isn't it? It is our future in this life.

So, they say, "My business will pick up in April. God has revealed it to me." "You were called as a servant of God, why are you doing this?" So, they go to seminary. These people are not few. They say, "If you continue to sin and cannot change this temper, you will face difficulties in your family next year." Then they are shocked. They say God spoke to them. If what you want to know is only that much, I can teach you. In my college days, I thought God might not exist. How could truth be only in Christianity? So, I studied Buddhist scriptures and Eastern philosophy more than Dol Kim Young-hyeok. So, if you give me your birth date and time, I can explain your four pillars and eight characters on the spot. That much is easy. Is that all we want to know through prophecy?

What is the future we need to know? It is clearly recorded in the Bible, isn't it? What is the future we need to know? It is our future as God's people in the new heavens and new earth. That is what we need to know, isn't it? We need to know that. The rest is what God told us not to focus on. Yet, everyone is risking their lives on it.

Even, I have a pastor whom I deeply respect, a pastor of a large church in Korea. His mother was in the choir. She secretly went to a fortune teller in Miari without her son's knowledge. As soon as she entered, the fortune teller said, "Do you believe in Jesus?" She was shocked. She asked how she knew. The fortune teller said, "I know everything. When I see them, I know they believe in Jesus. Those who believe in Jesus do not come to fortune tellers." She was so surprised that she told all the choir members at church. The next week, the entire choir met there. What is it that they wanted to know? Did they go there wanting to know our future in the new heavens and new earth? Did they go there curious about how we Christians can live more according to God's will in this world?

My friends and seniors who ran in the recent general election, some were elected and some were not. A friend who ran in Dongdaemun, Seoul, and lost told me that he prayed at the dawn prayer meeting for 100 days before the election. Yet, he still lacked confidence. "What should I do? Will I win or lose? Will I win or lose?" He wasn't a fortune teller, but he lacked confidence. So, the day before the election, he went to a famous fortune teller who only advises politicians and asked for a reading. The fortune teller said he would win because public opinion was clearly in his favor. But he lost. He said, "How can this be?" I thought to myself, "Serves you right."

What is the difference between the fortune and misfortune that these people seek and what we seek through prophecy within the church? The prophecy that God speaks of in the Bible is indeed about the future. However, it is not about our future in this life, but about our future in the new heavens and new earth. It is clearly written here without a single error, without a single typo. So, what else do you want to hear?

Look at Revelation 22:18. "I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes away from the words of the scroll of this prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the holy city described in this scroll." God's covenant and God's prophecy are complete. So, if you add even a little bit to these 66 books of the Bible, which are mentioned here, the Greek preposition "epi" means "upon" or "in addition to." If you add anything more than these preceding scriptures, the 66 books of the Bible, you will be subject to the plagues described in this book of Revelation, the plagues of the seven trumpets and the seven bowls. You are not afraid of these terrible plagues, are you?

Can the words spoken by God be recorded in the Bible? True or false question. Can the words spoken by God be recorded in the Bible? Yes. Then, if other revelations continue to come down in this era, we would have to write the Bible again, wouldn't we? We would have to write down the gospel that was spoken to me. But God says the Bible is already complete, and if you add even a single word to it, you will be cursed. But what is it that we want to hear? What is it?

And God has clearly explained what we believe to be His Word in these 66 books. How many times have you read it from beginning to end? Do you understand it? I wake up at 3:30 AM and go to bed at 11 PM, and I only read the Bible. I do nothing else. I don't even go for pastoral visits. Sometimes I can't even eat. Yet, I still don't understand 10%. I don't know if I will ever understand it all before I die. I will probably understand it in heaven. That is what it means. Studying the Word that God has given me is overwhelming in my life. So, why do we need to hear anything more? What else do you want to hear?

I don't know if there are people here who have studied more than me, but yes, I will ask them too. Do you understand it all? Yet, without paying attention to this, reading even one chapter a day, and yet you are not interested in what is called the Word of God, what else do you want to hear? God has clearly given us this completed Word.

In Ephesians 6, it says, "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." The only offensive weapon in that full armor is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. If God gave us this sword of the Spirit to fight against the devil, would He give it to us without us having it? How can we fight if we don't have it? When Satan tempted Jesus Christ, he attacked with the Word. He always attacks us with the Old Testament. When Satan attacks with the Word, if we do not counter with the Word, we cannot defend ourselves. So, when Satan comes out with a long sword and says, "Let's fight," we must draw our swords too. We draw it, and it's only a small John 3:16, the one we know. "For God so loved the world..." Only that one. How can we fight with just that? Because we don't know this content, we want to hear other stories. No, you can live victoriously with just this. Please do not focus on that.

Our Presbyterian church believes the Bible to be the sole Word of God. And we believe it to be accurate and inerrant. We support the doctrine of verbal inspiration. The Westminster Confession of Faith is a summary of this entire Bible. The Westminster Confession of Faith was created by 41 theologians, geniuses, and clergy selected by the English Parliament in the 15th century. They researched and studied for four years what the Bible was saying and what we believe.

I spent six months writing a paper in seminary using just one book written by John Owen, who participated in the Westminster Confession of Faith. These were the geniuses of their time who deeply and profoundly understood the Bible. 141 of them gathered for four years to summarize the Bible. Do you know what they said in Chapter 1, Verse 1 of the Westminster Confession of Faith, which they considered most important? "It pleased God, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, for the manifestation of the glory of his eternal power, wisdom, and goodness, in the beginning to create, or make of nothing, the world, and all things therein, whether visible or invisible: and all of them very good; and all this He did in the space of six days; and all very good. By the decree of God, for the manifestation of his glory, some angels and men, predestinated unto everlasting life, and others foreordained to everlasting death. Moreover, God, by the same decree, ordered and con-firmed all the means thereunto."
