Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah bless our master Muhammad, the chief of the first and the last, and all his prophetic brothers, and all his pure and good companions. Allah the Almighty says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones." Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, who was the Imam of the Tabi'in in Medina, said: "It is to learn how to pray, how to fast, how to sell, how to buy, how to marry, and how to divorce." This means that protecting oneself and one's family from the Fire is achieved by learning the rulings of the religion and applying them. All of this, prayer, fasting, selling, and buying, one must learn its rulings so that one's prayer is valid, one's fasting is valid, and one's selling is valid and in accordance with Sharia. Therefore, a Muslim must not enter into anything until he knows what Allah has made lawful and what He has made unlawful. Among these is learning the rulings of marriage, which enters into many details of daily life, whether for major events like engagement, contract, and wedding, or for daily life between spouses. It requires learning the rulings of marriage, whether you are married or not married and want to get married, or you are married and want a divorce, or a divorce has occurred and you want to know what results from it, or even if you are not married and do not want to get married, but someone asks you for advice from your married brothers or those about to get married, and you want to advise them in a way that is in accordance with religion. All of this, engagement, marriage, and divorce, has rulings in Sharia. Just as you learn the rulings of prayer and fasting, you learn the rulings of marriage. Just as you learn how your prayer is valid, you learn how your marriage is valid. Just as you learn the conditions of prayer, you learn the conditions of marriage. Just as you learn that there are things that invalidate prayer, you learn what invalidates marriage. Just as you learn about the Sunnah in prayer, you learn about the Sunnah in marriage. And you learn what rights you have over the one you married, and what rights they have over you. This is a very important matter, especially since one spends a long time with the one they married. Often, from the moment they wake up, they are near them, and when they want to sleep, they are near them. And despite the varying amount of time spouses spend together during the day and night, in general, it is a long time, often one spends more time with the one they married than with their friend, colleague at work, teacher, or student. Marriage opens a great door for you to gain good deeds or to gain bad deeds. One can gain a lot of reward through marriage. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The best of you is the best of you to his family." The same wording he used when speaking about a great matter in religion when he said: "The best of you is he who learns the Quran and teaches it." So, this matter can be a wide door to good deeds that elevates a person before Allah, the Blessed and Most High. And one can fall short of what is required of them or exceed their limits, and bear a great sin. The Hanif religion has concerned itself with the details of life and guided towards what is beneficial for a person in all its details. It has made rules, and whoever adheres to them will be happy in this world and the hereafter, by the will of Allah the Most High. So you see in the religion of Allah what regulates the origin of this: who is recommended to marry? Is it better to get married or to devote oneself to worship? How do you choose whom to marry? What is the engagement? What is the responsibility of the guardian towards his daughter or sister, for example, if someone proposes to her? How is the marriage contract performed? Who is the guardian? What is the dowry? What are the rights of the husband and what are the rights of the wife? What is incumbent upon the husband and what is incumbent upon the wife? If a dispute arises between the spouses, how should it be dealt with? How is divorce? How is Khul'? What is the difference between Khul' and divorce? What is the waiting period for divorce? What is the waiting period for widowhood? What is incumbent upon a woman during her waiting period? What is a woman entitled to during her waiting period? How is reconciliation after divorce, and so on, from the rulings. And because this can be a great door of good, Satan strives excessively to deprive the Muslim of this good and to corrupt it for him. Satan does not like the Muslim to be happy, nor does he like the Muslim to be engaged in what pleases Allah. So he aims for both: to be miserable and to fall into disobedience. This is something Satan cares about greatly. Muslim narrated from Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water, then he sends out his detachments, sending his helpers from the devils." The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "The closest of them to him in rank, the closest of the devils to Iblis, are the greatest in temptation." One of them comes and says: "I did such and such evil." Iblis is not satisfied with this and says: "You have done nothing." The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Then one of them comes and says: 'I did not leave him until I separated him and his wife.'" The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Then he brings him close to him and says: 'Yes, you.'" Iblis himself rejoices in the devil who causes separation between a man and his wife and embraces him, hugging him out of his great joy for him. How to make your marriage a successful project, so you are happy, gain reward, are safe from sin, and avoid the schemes of Satan. This is what we will talk about, Allah willing, in this program of ours. How to be a righteous, happy husband, and how to be a righteous, happy wife, so you attain happiness in this world and the hereafter, Allah willing. Because adhering to religion does not mean that you must be miserable in this world and only find joy in the hereafter. Rather, true happiness is in adhering to religion, as it leads to achieving worldly and hereafter happiness. [Music] Our place, and the splendor of dawn.
