So we are talking about Sun Saturn today in synastry. And this is interesting because they, um, don't always have the easiest relationship with each other. When we look at their natural relationship, the Sun and Saturn, and now in synastry, we're looking at the tension that naturally exists between the Sun and Saturn, Leo and Capricorn. We're looking at within relationship, how is that archetypal tension between, between, uh, the hedonism of the Sun and the need to be me, and the agenda of Saturn, which is how to be responsible considering the future.

Oftentimes, uh, being engaged in more delayed gratification, where the Sun is naturally a fire sign, wants to do what it wants to do, and it wants to do it now. So a very different behavior is involved when it comes to the Sun and Saturn. So let's start with the conjunction and talk about that. So if the Sun person in this conjunction themselves is Capricorn-y or Saturn-y, Saturnine, I guess would be the word, then this can be a pretty good conjunction. It does really depend on the predisposition of the Sun person. If the Sun person is looking for some added direction in their life, if they need somebody to help them clean them, clean themselves up and get themselves going, this could be a very good conjunction. Not everybody loves it. If we have a Sun that is very much bent on self-expression, you know, feeling free to be ourselves in a moment, if we don't have quite a bit of Saturn or Capricorn going on in our personality already as the Sun person, this is not always an enjoyable conjunction. We can feel that the Saturn person is squashing our natural behavior or directing us in a way that we may not, we may not need. And we can feel like we don't get to be ourselves. That's ultimately what it is with the hard aspects between the Sun and Saturn. That's what it basically comes down to is that the Sun person ends up feeling like they just can't get to be themselves. The Saturn person in this conjunction really doesn't have much, uh, of an opinion about it a lot of the time. It is a Sun person that really recognizes what is going on with this conjunction. The Saturn person's very happy to, you know, give their suggestions and their opinions and see what it is they think that the Sun person should do. But, you know, the Sun person may not be so apt to want to pick that up. So we have to look at, uh, what is the predisposition of the Sun person? That's going to be what really shows us the potentials that can come from this. I think that for the most part, this is a hard conjunction for most people to deal with unless you do have the Saturnian stuff going on. We have to be careful as the Saturn person when we have our Saturn in a hard aspect to someone else's Sun, whatever that hard aspect is. We have to be careful that we don't, we don't offer suggestions that come off as judgments to the Sun person, because we can make them feel bad about themselves simply by communicating that we think they could be better, should be better, or should be different. And in our mind, we could be doing them a service, but the Sun person doesn't interpret it that way. They, um, they will mute themselves over the course of time. They will censor themselves. And I think that we, we really don't want that as the Saturn person. We really don't want somebody to not get to be themselves. So we have to be careful about what we are communicating. And sometimes we are communicating without consciously communicating with our body language. We can be, uh, you know, getting our point across. We can make the Sun feel a certain way even though we aren't saying anything. So we have to really watch our attitude as the Saturn person, to watch ourselves, because we can end up being like that disapproving parent that we, as the child, just want to avoid. So we don't want to come off as judgy or, well, as stern. It's not a good thing for a relationship. And with this particular conjunction, it can be so hard for the Saturn person to even understand that they may be doing that.
So let's look at the sextile and the trine between the Sun and Saturn in synastry. These are both fabulous aspects to have, really, really good. The, sorry, that's my parents' dogs and dog sitting this week. They have very weird-looking greyhounds. One looks like some kind of giant prehistoric bird. I'm just getting used to it. So there's, uh, there's a lot of usefulness that comes from either the sextile or the trine. We look at each other like we have a lot of the tools, knowledge, experience that the other one finds personally beneficial. And it comes without the judgments. With a hard aspect from Sun to Saturn, we find each other to have a lot of what personally we may be missing. And we want to take advantage of it. It's not a type of taking advantage that is negative, it's very positive. It's like recognizing that, say, for example, we need to put together a resume for a new job, and the other person just happens to be able to do that better than we can, or they have actually some formal training in this. We put each other's skills to work for us, and we're happy to do that. We're happy to exchange because we'll recognize that, oh, you know what? You have a lot of things that you put into my toolbox, and I'm happy to put some things into your toolbox. So we're pretty darn, uh, aware of how the other person can be beneficial to us. It's a very practical sextile or trine. It really doesn't bring any, like, romantic attitudes. And Saturn is really known for romantic attitudes anyway. But this is a darn good aspect to have, either, either one. It comes without consequences, and it's very easy for the Saturn person to give suggestions, ideas that can help further the Sun person's creative impulses, their ideas about what they want to be. So it's, um, it's awesome when we have sextiles and trines as well. Sextiles in particular in natal trine synastry do give us a little bit more action. They're constructive. So we find each other to be a constructive part of our own life.
Let's look at the square. So let's talk about the square between the Sun and Saturn. This is a difficult aspect. We can find each other to be uncompromising. A lot of times the Sun person is going to see the Saturn person as judgy or as having some ideas that maybe the Sun person doesn't feel like they should adopt or they should do. And the Saturn person can look at the Sun person as frivolous or as, uh, hedonistic or as immature. So we don't have a very grand opinion of each other with this square. If we have other things going on, we could certainly deal with it. It's not unheard of to see in functioning relationships. It is a more rare aspect, I would say. It's not common. I would put it in, I classify it as not common. But if we have a lot of other compatibility, respect for each other, and we want to be in the relationship, then we will be able to get around this. We may not approve of each other all the time. And it's really up to the Sun person. When we have a hard aspect, any hard aspect from the Sun to Saturn, it's up to the Sun person to be themselves, no matter what they think the Saturn person will say. We can't start to shrink in the presence of the Saturn person. We can't start to detach from ourselves. That's not good for the Saturn person, it's not good for us. So we have to be bold and we have to be ourselves anyway. And that's really hard to do with the square. That can be really hard to do with the conjunction as well, because that's, uh, that's like being something that, you know, that somebody doesn't want, that there might even be some amount of consequence for. But we have to be it anyway, and we have to take that risk that we might piss the Saturn person off. With the square, there is, uh, just a real basic interpretation of each other as being hard-headed or stubborn, either too uptight or too immature, depending on if you're the Saturn or the Sun. But we can have some pretty negative opinions about each other. This is a really difficult aspect to have in a family relationship, especially between parent and child. It's really difficult because, especially for the Saturn person, the Saturn parent, we can really feel like our child is not what we think they should be like. They didn't, they aren't turning out like we envisioned or like we had planned or that we approve of. And the Sun child may only get to be themselves when the parent isn't looking. So it can really preclude knowing that child and being able to appreciate them for who they are. So we have to be really careful about again, what we communicate about our disapproval and keep many things to ourselves when we have this square if we want to have the Sun person continue to want to be around us and freely express themselves. So this can be an isolating square to have in any kind of relationship. It doesn't make us want to spend more time together. It can have us actually, especially the Sun person, actually avoiding more intimate contact or even being in the presence of the Saturn person because we don't want to endure that harsh judgment. So if you see this one, you need to really look carefully at other compatibilities that may exist. If they aren't there, then this is something that can really take a toll on the Sun person's self-esteem, and the Saturn person can feel like they're with somebody that they can't respect the way that they want to. So it's a very, very difficult square. But again, if, if you do encounter it, if it's something that you're dealing with, it is tolerance that's going to help us to get old to deal with it. And it is also reminding ourselves that other people get to be how they are. Other people get to be how they are. Other people get to be how they are, because they have to keep repeating it like a mantra, because we will feel those judgmental ideas or we can even be offended by each other with the square. And we need to feel that offense, but many, many times we need to not communicate it.
So let's look at the inconjunct. A lot of lifestyle differences can come with this one. Differences when it comes to our goals, the personal goals of the Sun person, and more of the, the career goals, life goals, the status goals of the Saturn person. Those can be very, very different. So it can be hard to agree on how we want to live, where we're going to live. It's very common with this inconjunct to have the Sun person have some kind of opportunity or a path to more of their personal expression or what they want to be doing in the world, a path to open up for them, and for the two people to have to make a very hard choice when it comes to what they personally want to grow and learn and become in the relationship. We may find that we have to give up an awful lot of our own personal pursuits or our idea of what we want to become in order to be in the relationship or sustain a relationship. So there's a sacrifice that will often have to be made. Some people, they may not want to make that. Sometimes our personal freedom and expression and growth, that is more important, or at least at that time in our life. And it can be different for different people what they choose. But it's a situation where we can't have our cake and eat it too, much of the time. So, um, we may have run into some issues when it comes to where we're going to live, how we're going to live, and the timing of some of the arrows in our life. When someone may be going to college, maybe at the same time that the other person is, you know, accepting a new job overseas, perhaps. So the timing of our life pursuits is often quite different with this inconjunct. It can get very, very hard to feel like we can be both happy in the relationship and personally happy, because we're also being able to pursue our own personal goals. So it is actually not a very common aspect to see in functioning relationships because it shows up pretty early as being pretty obvious that we are not going to have everything at home when it comes to the timing of our life, the arrows of our life. And a lot of people will just not be able to connect for a long-term basis. Some people can't pick it up, they can't have a relationship with it in it. And I would say a lot of those relationships are going to be marked by some amount of bitterness when it comes to what we've had to give up in order to be in the relationship, especially if it's one person that has made more of those sacrifices. That can add up, and we can start to feel like, you know, I've given so much, was it worth it? And if the relationship is not rewarding us, if we're not, if it isn't worth it to us, if it's not a fabulous relationship where we feel like, yes, it was worth me giving up that opportunity to live in Hawaii so that, you know, I could go and be with you, you've got this job in Siberia, kind of thing. If we're not getting a lot out of the relationship, then that's going to weigh very heavily. Those kinds of sacrifices.
So let's look at the opposition between the Sun and Saturn. A difficult aspect, much like the square. It's very much like the square, but there's an added energy to the opposition where we can actually, we can actually act out in some of the ways that the other person has actually pointed out that they don't like or that they find annoying. So I'm sure we've all, especially in sibling relationships, we've all experienced this, yes? Where someone tells us to say, you're too loud, and then all we do is really, really use a loud voice every time we talk to them. That's the kind of behavior we do. We get into with the opposition between Sun and Saturn. Or like we're walking through the store together, we look at the other one and say, ah, you're walking so slow. Is this gonna take forever to get all of the shopping done? The other person looks at you and they start going in slow motion just to piss you off. That's what we get into. It is not the most mature reaction that we have to our differences with this opposition. And we can just stick it to each other with this. We can really feel like, oh, you don't like it, you don't like me? Well, I'll show you. I'll be exactly what you think I shouldn't be. So it's not a very flexible situation. Um, because typically we're going to bring out of a lot of each other's worst qualities. We're going to trigger the other person very, very easily when it comes to them kind of playing up to our disapproval. And every time we do issue some kind of disapproval towards the other person, they're not going to back down from them. It's not like with the conjunction, sometimes even the square. The square will put her head down, be like, gonna do that around you again, or say that around you. You're like, oh, really, really, you don't like it? Well, here you go. So it, we don't mute ourselves like we do with the other aspects. We actually get louder and more obnoxious. So the Sun person is in no danger with the opposition of losing themselves, like they can be with the conjunction, the square, sometimes with the, the inconjunct as well. Um, but that is more about differences in lifestyle choices or pursuits or goals or the timing of that. The inconjunct, it's not so much about a reaction to a disapproval or the judgment of the other person. But yeah, the opposition, it will bring out the jerk in both of us. And we have to, we have to be careful about how we react to what the other person says, because I think both people are equally immature with this particular aspect. And it's not as uncommon to see as say, the square or the inconjunct. You see the opposition every once in a while. And it is particularly difficult in a sibling relationship because we already have that kind of a challenge that we'll issue to each other. Um, so this can exacerbate that already archetypal annoying relationship that we can have with siblings.
