Acquisition.com Scaling Workshop: What it is & How it Works

Thanks so much for booking a call with our team for our acquisition.com scaling workshop. Real quick, just going to talk about what the workshop is, why we launched it, and how it works. And at the end, I'll explain what the call that you're going to hop on. It's about 15 minutes. I'll kind of break down what that is.

So, first off, what is this? So, the scaling workshop is just designed to help business owners solve current problems within their business, get tactical support, and kind of see around the next corners of growth. What's the thing that's limiting you? And once you break through that, what's the next thing that's going to come up, right? With the end goal obviously of just showing you how you could scale the business ideally faster. Again, not a promise, but that's the ideal. To be clear, this is not a motivational event. This is not a raw event. This is a tactical workshop where you'll meet uh with the same team that helps us scale our portfolio companies. And so, that's fundamentally the what.

Now, if I'm you, I'd be like, why are they even doing this to begin with? So, we actually didn't realize how much demand we were going to get on our private equity side, you know, when I started making content, you know, a few years ago. And to put this in context, we get like a thousand businesses a day roughly, like a lot that reach out for partnership. And fortunately, unfortunately, a lot of them are just too small or just not a perfect fit for us to invest in, but not a business that we can't necessarily provide value to. And I'll tell you how this actually happened. For the first few years of acquisition.com, we didn't do anything like this. And we would just hop on 2, three, four, five calls with a company and be like, "Hey, you know, I don't think it's a fit right now, but like do this, do that, do that, and you know, at the end, give us a call in a year once you've done those things." And what ended up happening is a lot of founders were like, "This was more valuable than anything I've ever paid for." And so in talking to those founders, we realized that there was this huge lack of tactical real business experience and support for entrepreneurs in a specific level.

So let me explain. So there's a lot of help in the low end of the market. People are just getting started. Get your first five customers, first few hundred,000 a year. There's lots of coaching courses, masterminds, there's a lot of stuff that's there. On the other extreme, with like the Fortune 500 companies, you know, those companies pay $5 million a year, $10 million a year in terms of contracts. And so they do that because it's worth it to them. But there isn't much help for companies in the $1 million to $100 million range. There's not a lot there. And to be clear, I'm saying these as hypothetical numbers, not a guarantees of results or a promise of your success. Your results will vary. But that's where we were kind of coming from with this.

And so we're like, how can we share the stuff that's working for our portfolio that we've seen work to help companies scale? We've helped companies in home services, business services, consumer services, professional services, education businesses, obviously content media, software and SAS, e-commerce, and obviously brick and mortar. And so basically if you're a business that markets, sells and delivers and has people like we can probably help you out at this point. And so growing these companies has helped us figure out and document kind of the process of scaling. What are the similar patterns that occur across headcount and these are the same patterns that we recognize and use at acquisition.com and our private equity division. And so it's fundamentally it's the basis of the content that I put out as well. And so again we noticed that there's not a lot of very straightforward like do this instead of this type of next steps for entrepreneurs. And if there was it typically, this is not, you know, throwing shade. It's just not from people who really have the credentials of scaling or selling companies like we do. And to be clear, we're not promising that for you. Your results will vary. That being said, there was a lot of demand for this type of service. And so, we wanted to match real entrepreneurs with people that they wouldn't normally have access to. And to put this in context, people on our team, a lot of them make 300, 500, a million dollars a year. And if you're a local business, you might not have access to that level of talent within your area. or even if you're a national business, you might not be at the point where you could pay someone who has that level of experience and expertise to fit within your payroll in a way that would be responsible. But the thing is is that in a very concentrated format, you can get so much of the value at such a discount that it creates outsized returns. And fundamentally, that's the arbitrage that we're providing here. And so whether you're dealing with a marketing problem, a sales problem, an offer problem, a recruiting issue, we want to be able to connect you with people who actually can solve this problem because they already have. And so you'll speak with the same functional experts who actually work on the companies that we own.

So, that's kind of like the what of the workshop and the why we do it. And so, I'll just talk about kind of the nitty-gritty of like kind of how it works. So, it's a two-day scaling workshop here at our headquarters in Vegas. On day one, we walk you through the framework behind the scenes of how we've built our portfolio. And we use something called the value acceleration method. And it is kind of what it sounds like. It's how do we accelerate value within a business using the fewest levers that get us the closest towards our goal. And so, the goal is to fundamentally change the way you view the business and identify the levers that will give you the highest returns. There's a zillion things you could potentially do, but the people move fastest are the ones who pick the right things to do. And obviously the next steps of how to do it, which basically leads us to day two.

So on day two, it's about getting the tactical questions answered of like, okay, I understand these are the three big levers that I can do to to accelerate the value in the business, but this is where you'll be able to ask questions to my director of marketing, my director of sales, my director of strategy, director of recruiting, and so forth. Our goal is for you to leave with the three to five next tactical steps very clearly laid out to help you solve your problem and scale the business to the next level from where you're currently at.

And so last thing, just housekeeping. Uh we like to be transparent. So it's 5,000 a ticket. If it's just you, it'll be 5 grand. If it's you and a plus one, then it would be 10 grand. And that's because fundamentally we want to keep the room quality high. If you're the type of person or your business at the current state where like $5,000 or $10,000 would be a huge burden to you, you're probably not ready to do this and it's probably not a fit for you right now. And that's okay. That's why put all the free content out there. We open up a few dates a month uh for businesses to come out and the call that you booked uh should only run about 15 minutes. We're going to spend about 5 minutes understanding the business to make sure that it's a fit that we can actually provide value. The next 5 minutes we'll spend answering questions that you have about the two days. And then finally, if it sounds like it makes sense, uh then we'll spend the last 5 minutes basically locking in payment and dates.

So to recap, it's your business, my team plus me, 2 days here, acquisition.com headquarters in Vegas, helping you break through the most meaty problems facing your business right now to help you get to the next level. And so if that sounds cool, excited to see you in Vegas and potentially meet you soon.

Hey guys, real quick. I've been listening to some of the calls and there's been a number of small questions somewhat related that have come up that I figured I could just answer right now um so that I can save you some time. So number one is hey should I come to the workshop if I'm already working on stuff or shouldn't I consume some of the free content and then come out uh after I consume more books or more you know courses or whatever. I think the easiest way to think through this is just best case worst case. So worst case scenario you are working on whatever the thing is that you're working on either use it from the free content or you just continue to see out whatever you're currently working on and it doesn't work out. Well, if you have a calendar day to come out here soon, then we'll help you fix that thing and then give you the next three to five tactical steps that you need that we can hopefully just compress between you and where you're trying to go. Best case scenario, you do solve it and then when you come out, we'll just give you the next step immediately. And so either way, you're going to win. So that should definitely not be a reason to not come out. And on top of that, if you are like mid implementation and you're like, man, I just need to like see it through before coming out, we're usually sold out for a few months anyways. And so you might as well lock the date in. Let that play out. And if it works out, great. And then we're going to give you the next steps. And if it doesn't work out, then we'll be able to help you fix why it didn't work out. But it's still going to have time before you actually are here. And so what's interesting is like we tend to think through like what's happening today for a decision that's happening 3 months from now. But 3 months from now, like wars have been won and lost. There's laws that that change. Like a lot of things can change in a period of time. And so fundamentally, you're not going to shrink your business by being around businesses that make more and by people who grow significantly larger companies who can help you see from a few steps ahead looking back.

The second one that kind of came up is this is a very busy season. I have a lot of stuff going on right now. Can I push this a quarter or two? Let me just hit that real quick. So number one, remember this is going to be a few months out because we tend to be sold out for a few months. So like whatever you're working on, you will have some time to play it out. The big assumption that somehow it's going to be less busy in the future, I think we both know is not going to be true because you're always going to be busy. The assumption that I need to not be busy in order to move my business forward, I think is thinking that will keep your business smaller than it should be because it assumes that you need to be not busy in order to grow, which is obviously not true. So, let me just give you a hypothetical that I think makes this really clear. Imagine today you could go back and talk to yourself when you started this business and you could give yourself all of the advice that you need to learn at that point and younger self says to you today, I can't talk right now. I'm really busy working on stuff. Doesn't that seem a bit preposterous? I think so. And I think it's kind of the same scenario.

The third one is, hey, what if I'm not qualified to come out or I'm not sure what questions I would ask. I want to get the most value from it. I'm just like, I'm not sure I'm ready or I want to hit this revenue goal first. I want to, you know, clean up my data first. Whatever insert reason you have here, the best way I can frame this for you is that when I wanted to start my gym, I paid $10,000 to join a gym mastermind. I was the only person who didn't have a gym. So, you could argue that I wasn't qualified to be in the room. But when I was there, I laid out my entire plan for what I wanted to have happen. And I was like, "This is where I want to open my location." And then all the guys were like, "Dude, the rent is two times higher than it should be, and you're renting twice the amount of space." So, I was going to be paying four times more per month than I should have been. And then they rightsized that. And I was like, "Oh, okay." And then I was like, "Okay, well, this is all the equipment I'm going to buy." And they're like, "Dude, don't buy from them. Buy from the going out of business retailer." It's like, "It's onetenth the price if you buy from them." I was like, "Oh, okay." And then I did that and I was like, "This is how I'm going to do my workouts. This is how I'm going to license my music." I went down the list and within a matter of two days, the group of the guys there saved me $250,000 and 5 years of my life being in the wrong model in the wrong location. And so you can make the argument that is the best time to come is when you're kind of on the smaller side because it's much easier to change the direction of a rowboat than it is to shift the Titanic.

Just as a quick mini note here, if you're worried about your data not being clean, you're like, I don't have all my numbers. Welcome to business. Most small businesses have data risk. They don't have all the data they need. And that's okay because two things. Number one is we're going to send you out a quick packet that's going to help you prep for coming out. And we're going to review the numbers, too. So, we're going to have a good idea before you come. The second is that we're going to help you identify the fewest data points that you actually need to gather because most people think they need a hundred different data points, but you really only need two or three that are really going to drive the most valuable things in the business. And often times, they're not the ones you expect and they're easier to track if you know what you're doing. Meaning, there's lots of backdoor ways that we can show you back at napkin that'll be pretty darn accurate for you without having all the tech in place and things like that that might be above your quote pay grade given your level of business today.

And to be clear, if you are a smaller business, we're going to pair you with other smaller businesses. And if you're a bigger business, we're going to pair you with other larger businesses. So, they're going to be around your size. And that way, we can be talking to you in that small setting about the stuff that's most pressing to you, right? Like there's no point in talking about how we're going to do, you know, high level recruiting for executives if you're like, "How do I get my first salesperson?" Right? It's not going to be relevant for you. At the same time, if it's like, "Hey, how do I, you know, start making, you know, content as my second acquisition channel?" uh were to like pair with my outbound attempts, it might not make sense to talk about that if you're like, well, I already have a 10 person content team, right? Because that's what we'd be talking about when you have a larger business. So, on both sides, you like some people you want to be in the other thing, but it's like the actual problems that we're discussing are not be relevant. So, we're going to make sure that where you're at is what we're going to be talking to you about because that's only thing the other businesses around you're going to be talking about. And so, when we're in the problem solving, we want to be talking about as specifically as possible the problems that you have to solve right now. But when we're in the networking, you're going to be able to network with companies much bigger than you or across, you know, across the pond, if you will, in different markets than you. And so, you'll be able to trade lots of um trade secrets. Uh but really, you just get to meet people. And at the end of the day, for me, I've always tried to pay to get access to a room of people who are doing the same thing as I am or ideally a few steps ahead of me. And one of the things I can tell you about this room is it's um it's a high quality room. We have smaller business owners are coming out all the way up to, you know, businesses doing 100 million a year.

Last one that I heard come up is like, "Hey, I'm already working with an agency," which we're not an agency, by the way. Uh, or I'm working with a business coach, which we're not business coaches, by the way. I'll just kind of say this. If you're watching this video right now, it's probably because the business isn't growing as fast as you want. And so, it has nothing to do with whether they're good or bad at their job or they're helping you or not helping you. But, you can also have more than one person who can help you get to where you're going to go. And so, I'll tell you this quick story. So, a friend of mine started a business, ran it for 5 years, and then ended up closing the business down. And I reached out to him, and I was like, "Hey, why didn't you reach out, dude? I didn't know that like there was an issue." And he said, "If I'm going to fail," he said, "I want it to be on me and I don't want anyone else to own that. That's 100% on me." And I was like, I have the complete opposite perspective, which is that it's 100% on you, but it's on you to get help from as many sources as humanly possible because there's no one person who can know everything about everything. If you're working with someone, it doesn't mean that they're bad if you come to a scaling workshop. It just means that like maybe we can also help you. And so I've always tried to just get help from every single possible angle because in what world does that minimize or decrease the chances of my success? So that's how I think about it.

That being said, I want to be 100% clear whether you choose to come out to a scaling workshop or not. If you're a business owner, you're my people. I know that this is the most valable thing that we can do for a business because I've seen what happens. And so I'm very convicted about it. And at the end of the day, I'd love to meet you. I love meeting Mos Nation. I love meeting the businesses that are actually doing stuff every day, not talking about it. Hopefully, I'll see you out here in Vegas.

>> I'm IL. I just finished the first day of workshop at acquisition.com and I came here because I don't know how to grow my business faster. Like, I've tried so many things. Those guys brought me the most valuable strategy. So, if you're looking at this video, I guess that because you're not sure about taking the workshop, that's just a no-brainer. Now, I just have like the perfect plan to go next level with my business. So, if you're serious with your business, that's just a no-brainer.

>> So, I've just completed the acquisition.com scaling workshop. It's been 2 days of questions and ideas and frameworks and pad recognition. Now, I would recommend this to any business owner. Great two days and ready to get to work.

>> My name's Alexis Morgan. When I went to the acquisition.com workshop, I didn't have a specific problem that I was looking to solve, but I knew I needed to be around people who were doing business at a higher level than me. And I just discovered so many things inside of my business. If you are skeptical or unsure about attending, I would highly advise you to get around people who can show you the path. You can save years of your life and hundreds of thousands of dollars in ad spend or the wrong hire by coming to the workshop. You need to be here to get the insight. You don't know what you don't know as a business owner. And so having someone pay down your ignorance debt, you going to spend time with them in their office, it's everything.

>> Hey, I'm Mike. I just completed the workshop at acquisition.com. I own a production studio and I'm pivoting from doing client work to doing my own projects. I came here because I put so much time and effort into this product that there's no way I'm going to let it fail. I can execute. I just need a good plan. I just need the right business intelligence. And that's what acquisition.com did for me. They studied my business and developed a custom strategy. And now I have a plan for executing my vision to launch this product. And this is a huge relief for me. I don't have to stress about business strategy. I can focus on building my business and focus on what works. So, if you're tired of being stuck in your horses, check these guys
